Iâm not saying it didnât have dumb shit, Iâm just saying that, all things considered, I donât think itâs a bad game. Was Marvel 2 better? Absolutely. But Marvel 3 was still fun, at least imho
The way TACâs worked in the older builds was the right way. If you guessed right, theyâd be on the receiving end of a combo. I didnât like the idea of making it pretty much all reward and next to no risk. Overall, MVC3 had lots of flaws, but it still ended up being one of favs of the entire VS series.
Loving the games has nothing to do with being a realist. I love the versus series too but that wonât skew the facts and make me type here thinking itâs going to happen just because. You have to be objective. This is still up in the air so approach the situation with a grain of salt. That way, it wonât hurt as bad if nothing is revealed. Some of you guys dove elbow deep into this.
Iâm pretty neutral on Miles and havenât really seen much of him, but think he has potential. Iâm more familiar with Kamala. One fun thing is sheâs like anti-grim and gritty armed with crazy powers and infectious optimism. Seeing pics of her fangirling over team ups with Spidey and Wolvie made me want to pick her book (I think I should do that now). I think sheâd be a great fit for the cross promotional madness and endless refs they love throwing into these things. Her getting excited and confused over seeing Viewtiful Joe in his chibi glory, wanting to write a fan fic about all the craziness, comparing scarfs with Strider could be charming, goofy fun especially if they look in the direction of SF5 and actually had story content in it this time.
I know that she can stretch and grow, so her moveset and animations could be insane and Darkstalkers level if they wanted to (just imagine a noodly dizzy anim). Plus I could see them incorporating some of her imagination moments into a lvl 3 if itâs some sort of team up attack that has dynamic reactions;
Basic movement could be her doing some crazy flailing arms combo that sends the opponent skward while the partner does their share, then she pauses and then has a camera close up while the imagine spot plays:
Captain Marvel- Sheâs geeking out, fangirling out and going on about how sheâs having the greatest moment of her life
M. Bison - Being worried what Capt. Marvel would think, sees chibi Bison hold and crush a globe with fire in the imagination thought bubble, but ultimately deciding the team up is a desperate times call for desperate measures deal
Chun Li - Probably geeking out and has a poster of her (She seems to dig authority heroines) wants to ask if she could teach her the lightning legs
Super Skrull - Again bummed out she has to work with a villain, but wondering where the Fantastic Four are.
Ant Man - Taking notes on his growing giant maneuvers and wondering what she could add to her style from working with more Avengers veterans
What I loved about Marvel 3 was that it was such a sandbox of a game. I was able to understand more of Marvel 2 through Marvel 3 since I never spent any heavy time learning the 4 or 5 character Marvel 2 that everyone saw at tourneys and Evo. I just was never interested in being gdlk with Mag/Storm/Sent and didnât wanna go to college to learn Strider Doom.
Marvel 3 did a better job balancing the strengths between characters if thatâs one thing I can say good about it. It didnât feel like MVC2 or CVS2 where one side of the cast felt way more worth using than the other part of the cast. Magneto, Nova, Doom, Wolverine, Phoenix, Dormammu, Hulk, Sentinel and others were all strong or very strong parts of a team and Zero, Viper, Dante, Vergil, Morrigan, Ammy, Strider, Haggar and others were really strong from Capcom also. There was a much better balance between who could be really strong and win tournaments. Whereas in MVC2 Strider was your only real way to actively fight characters with a Capcom character at like top 8 tournament level.
I really liked the TAC concept. Although it was nearly broken competitively it was really cool to be able to switch characters in the middle of a combo and the HSD glitches allowed for some really swag combos and infinites. I hope thatâs back in some way without the TOD and Simon Says aspect.
Neutral like this is so awesome too. Viper being a grounded 8 way air dasher thatâs designed to blow up the air game of other aerial characters. Fighting the on point traditional, aerial 8 way air dasher.
Plus in general with Marvel the whole idea of being able to use 3 characters that actively control what your team is capable of was just awesome and not something you can get out of any other fighter. Itâs really like creating a deck of cards and making that your fighter. Teams could even change greatly based on what assist was used and that would even change the super used for DHCâs and THCâs. Which the THCâs in Marvel 3 were definitely more powerful and interesting than they were in 2 and Doom/Ammy THC was easily the most cracked out shit in the game with what you could do with it.
Long story short, Marvel 3 and especially UMVC3 was a better game than people like to admit and there just generally wasnât a faster, more cracked out, more sandbox card deck type fighter out there in that generation.
Street Fighter (Akuma, Bison, Gill, Juri, Necalli)
Mega Man (Sigma, Dr. Wily, Bass)
Resident Evil (Wesker, Nemesis, Jack Krauser, William Birkin)
Devil May Cry (Vergil, who else?)
Ace Attorney (?)
Dead Rising (?)
Monster Hunter (?)
Sengoku Basura (?)
Breath of Fire (?)
Asuraâs Wrath (Deus, Augus, Olga, Chakravartin)
Lost Planet (Dennis Isenberg, Bandero)
Okami (Yami, Ninetails)
Viewtiful Joe (Alastor, Omnipotent King Blue, Fire Leo)
Darkstalkers (Pyron, Jedah, Demitri, Lord Raptor, Huitzil)
Rival Schools (Hyo Imawano, Raizo Imawano, Kurow Kirishima)
Power Stone (Valgas/Final Valgas, Dr. Erode, Kraken)
Ghosts N Goblins (Firebrand, Astaroth, Hades, Lucifer, Samael)
Final Fight (Belger, Edi. E, Retsu, Black, Damnâd)
Saturday Night Slam Masters (Scorpion, Jumbo Flapjack, The Wraith)
Red Earth (Scion, Blade)
Star Gladiator (Bilstein, Rain)
God Hand (?)
Marvel vs Capcom (Abyss)
Asuraâs Wrath villains are probably some of the strongest as far as taking on Marvelâs villains. Deus or Chakravartin could be great in MvC.
âŚbut thats exactly the case in the â4 characterâ game too lmao. MSS is hugely different than MSP. Mag cable sent is different than even if u run that team in reverse. Storm/sent/cable is not the same as if u swap cable out for cyke or commando. And as for dhcs, well we all know how josh360 showed what magneto could do w iron man behind him
Nigga, we can always get worse.
Is in fact what im expecting to, given capcom track record.
Now, this wouldnât matter since we all know that it will be still played regardles its quality or what the players think about it.
Right, but itâs still 4 to 6 or 7 characters (and 3 of those characters being assist characters that look really gimp on point). Which means itâs harder for a casual audience to understand as theyâll just see the same 4 dudes up there.
Thatâs what I was getting to in how learning how it worked in Marvel 3 helped me to understand it more in Marvel 2.
