The idea of making a strong base game is lost on many companies
DLC’s legs are only as strong as the sells of said game.
If your game flops, DLC is meaningless to the big picture. Granted, the sells being viable is more important for Capcom than it is Marvel. They plan to sell 2 million copies, so putting out a good product is paramount. The FGC will eat it up because tournaments, but that’s a very minuscule % in comparison to who they’re trying to sell the game to.
But putting the DLC glasses on, it’s easy to see that no one would pay for Firebrand and Spencer. Not as much as they’d pay for Vergil, Zero, and Wesker. So they removed them and put these guys in place. The producer said most of the roster was based on fan interest and story viability. That’s a load of shit.
I really want this game to be well-received, but Capcom cannot get out of its own way. It’s really hilarious thinking about it at times.
An analysis of Injustice and Injustice 2’s DLC patterns would be useful for MvC:I’s DLC patterns. I remember Ed Boon tweeted a while ago that Scorpion was the highest selling DLC character for Injustice 1, the character who appealed most to the core fan base. Wish I could dig up more though.
The last time I felt this badly about one of my highly anticipated games before it was Released was with DmC, and that shit remained as I thought it would be. If they show us shit I find it hard to believe they’ll turn it around anytime soon.
With Marvel 3 I was amped throughout the marketing. Sure X-Factor was hot garbage and some fan favourites were lost but the game had a solid roster, classic and new. You could tell some love went into that game.
If find it funny that even GAF is shitting on the game and they’re some of the most PC SJW people I’ve ever seen. You know Capcom’s fucking up when even the shills can’t say it’s gonna be great with a straight face. Maybe my Frugal ass is too used to buying games with full content.
That aside I wonder if they’re gonna cut down Dante’s 40+ moves. I feel like he’s gonna have some other the most interesting changes if it’s not copy and paste.
The overall style/proportions of the characters from 3 to Infinite are the same (compare with SFIV to SFV where there was a noticeable change in style). Now combine that with people generally wanting to be negative.
Is this the case for the models though? Look how busted Chun-Li looks in Infinite compared to her model in MvC3. Marvel characters closely resemble their movie counterparts.
Marvel 3 had it’s share of gameplay issues that were visible before launch though. A lot of which was tied to it basically dumping the old system in favor of copying TvC. Infinite at least is going back to a lot of the mechanical stuff that made the old games what they were.
This time out, most of us seem happy with the mechanics, except maybe Counter Switch.
