Just a thought about the character default stats(speed, specials, damage and etc properties) + gem probability combination to work arround, than character gets bonus/get an exclusive power-up to this gem. Designating a Gem for a particular character or team should be more into plan playstyle not by a “suggestive” bonuses, because the characters stats based properties and moves are already the optimal factors for the gem usability, that it doesn’t need another layer of thought that is from an obvious suggestive bonuses.
Let make an sample:
Power Gem Design A: - MSH but with passive exclusive bonuses
Attribute 1: Active: Increase normal and special by 10%
Special Attribute 1: Passive: Additional increase damage for Hulk and Hugo in Super moves by 20%
Special Attribute 2: Passive: if equipped for Ryu it gain additional increased damage of 30% for projectile attacks:
Power Gem Design B: - everything is active more MSH
Attribute 1: Active: Increase normal and special by 10%
Special Attribute 1: Active: if equipped for Hulk and Hugo it gain additional increased damage of 10%
Special Attribute 2: Active: if equipped for Ryu it gain additional increased Super move damage of 30%
Power Gem Design C: - more CVS2 and Zero3
Attribute 1: Active: Increase damage in all Special moves and Super moves by 20%.
Attribute 1: Active: Knockdown attack gets high OTG possibilities.
Attribute 3: Passive: Fill Super Gauge by Normals and Specials even without hitting an opponent.
At the same time, making buffs too character specific goes against the freeform nature of Marvel as well as the whole “let people chose what they want philosophy”.
Yes, I know MSH had character specific buffs, but that was before we learned a lot more about how the series should play (and in any case, IIRC most of the time, you were going for the time gem anyway since you got more infinites with it).
Kinda weird, So whats disagreeable with my last comment when were both in the same ideal not into MSH Gem or exclusive buff, and were both more into CVS2 like Grooves that offers everyone the very similar power-ups? What did you prefer more CVS2 or MSH/specific buff?
I believe it was the way the post was structured that thew people off. I had to read it again to realize you were making an argument against character-specific bonuses. It seemed like you were listing possible character-specific gem designs you liked.
I hope gems are just more than passive boosts or just one activation skill. Bring me just defends or anger or short hops. Make it as good as cvs2 grooves and I’m happy
@KiyaaKing
Not at all those sample was just post that i never think or what i wanted to, those weren’t my liking on how power gem should be i just based it to the other thread(character) that mentions power gem, hugo and hulk, it was just a plain sample without any planned idea other than to show how specific buff isn’t that good in a broad case by bringing the idea of passive and active possibilities.
Showing sample give people understanding how thing would work rather than imagination(what ifs and should ifs) and just previous references.
Making a sample by breaking down into passive and active gives a clarity that would change the way people would anticipate the gems and why specific buff is not a better idea than CVS2 style. The shown sample is clearly a quick draft and uninspired. Just a sample not a request. I don’t know wat’s with @d3v?
If you would refer to my earlier post on the thread it was a speculation of returning of the assist and other accustomed features from previous mvc series scattered through gems. which is different and i never used it on that sample that is based from the character thread(P36).
Reskinned CvS2 grooves sounds ok. You can tweak mobility, defensive mechanics, meter use, and combo potential with them. I don’t think we will see character-specific gem buffs because Capcom wants to avoid specific gems being requisite to certain characters, barring some coincidental synergy, which is exactly what happened with CvS2 grooves.
Considering the producer for Infinite immediately compared the Gems to the Groove system, it seems likely we’ll see something comparable.
Outside of the roster, I’m really itching to see how Gems work. Looking back at the trailer, we see Ryu activate the Power gem, which seemingly changes the background. However, once he’s in the middle of his combo, he activates it. Makes me wonder…
i just hope there’s stuff you can do without activating it. they did say when you activate it, it breaks all norms of fighting games. H&H cards seem like the best inspiration for these broken effects once activated
How do you guys feel about color editing mode (without neon colors)? It’s pretty nice to express yourself, but I love when they have a meaning behind alternate colors.
I’ll support it as long as the colors don’t blend into the stage. I don’t want another nightmare of having to fight an all black costume team on Shield Helicarrier night time stage.
This is one of the few times where I’d say just wait. Fortunately Ono already posted a teaser to get the fire burning again after a long period of silence.
Some people are skeptical regarding lack of news. A 2017 fighting game release to get no periodic announcements is definitely a bit concerning. I also had that sentiment and began to wonder why that was the case. Was the game undergoing issues? Did they just announce it too early? Will it be delayed?
I talked with Combofiend actually when he came Hackerfight around less than a month ago. I wasn’t trying to seriously wrangle information (other than asking if “My Boy” is back, in which he just dodged the question very gracefully). I did ask him about the concerning silence regarding announcements.
The answer he gave me is that they really don’t want to fuck things up this time. They don’t want to pull a SFV launch so they are much more careful this time to not step on any egg shells. They rather be silent and plan.
He does have a hand in this game, and Combofiend + Marvel is good math by my book. It’s at least to keep a cynical person like me optimistic.
Just some thoughts I’d spill.
I don’t understand what one thing has to do with the other. Unless they are already considering a delayed launch and want to keep news coming out until a week before the release. Even then, i don’t know what revealing characters has to do with the development of game modes like arcade and trials and a working netcode requiring more time, which was the reason SFV launch was fucked up.
And the sooner they show gameplay stuff, the sooner they can gather feedback. If something has to be changed, people will understand if they delay it.
