I’m in full support of giants. PTX was fun in TvC. I would welcome their return.
Who wants to make a bet that the breaking mechanic, you know the one where you can bust out of getting hit at the cost of meter, will make a comeback in Infinite?
I doubt there will be crossplay or a beta period across all platforms. Maybe PS4 will get a beta because we all know that Capcom will get on their knees and assume the position to appease Sony.
If I recall right, they were just pretty much whack and divided the community on whether or not they should be banned. I believe Gold Lightan was straight up ass, but PTX-40A had some shit, or some highly favorable match ups or something like that and was hard to deal with. Someone with more knowledge of the game would probably be able to explain better.
I doubt it. That was in TvC which was by a totally different development team (8ing, same team as MvC3).
As much as there seems to be thing from TvC, specifically the in-combo tag, looking at it closely shows that what MvC:I has is quite different (and seems to borrow more from SFxT), with the screen freeze, and the tagged in character coming in from the ground.
No combo breakers please, if you are getting hit it’s likely your own fault.
You need to hold that combo
i really hope they don’t bring back giants
seems kind of backwards when they’ve expressed that this game will be heavily team based
Can’t you just drop some additional info or hints on those characters.
Giants are just a waste of slots. Even if they aren’t overpowered, they deviate too much from the game’s mechanics making you feel that you are playing a completely different game. And they are boring to fight against IMO.
The point of giants is to attract/please casual players. Yeah, they’re likely to fail on a competitive level, but banning one/two characters won’t hurt us nearly as much as including their design helps casuals have fun. I wouldn’t mind them being added because they shouldn’t make every decision based on what the competitive scene wants, lest they make the same mistake as SFV.
Something tells me that the giant characters should be at a same size like Sentinel, Blackheart, & Nemesis back in previous MvC games
Well, they can always make giant bosses and a special mode that allows you to control them (like Galactus mode, but not as hidden). Putting them on character select is what concerns me.
Giant Characters like those in TVC is okay if they have been just another form Special Bosses like Azazel in Tekken along with Galactus, Onslaught, Abyss and Apocalypse that is not playable by default.
Except not even casual gamers liked the gimmick of giant characters.
Besides, since they said they wanted Infinite to be team based, it would be weird for them to add a character that can only fight by itself.
TVC and Smash were the only 2 competitive games I could get some of my friends to play, and when they played the former they loved playing the giant characters. It made them feel powerful even when they were technically at a disadvantage. Having giant characters actually makes more sense in this game since assists aren’t a thing. The only thing you’d be missing out on is tags/dhcs.
I’d rather have “giants” treated the same way as Sentinel, Blackheart, etc. were in prior Marvel games - as regular characters. This allows players to use them without having to sacrifice the ability to form a team.
Giants were stupid. They were only fun for the people playing them. You can’t even combo them normally. It’s basically the same as playing as a Marvel boss as far as how you interact with other characters.
Reading from @RoyalFlushTZ 's [thread](For the remainder of TvC tournaments in SoCal.... I AM BANNING GIANTS! (mentioning him so he can clarify further), giants were mostly banned because the community in general seemed to not like them. They either didn’t like how playing against them changed the game (despite not being close to ST Akuma), and they didn’t like how giant matches apparently became quite boring.
Your friends liking it doesn’t change that it was unpopular with the majority of players and TvC ultimately did sell all that well on this side of the world anyway.
And it wouldn’t make sense, since the devs wanted to focus more on team work for Infinite.
The majority of competitive players. You can’t speak for everyone, and I’m not trying to either. All I know is that more character variety typically translates into more interest from a casual standpoint and giants add that. I also think it would be a smart move by Capcom to attempt the duo character type (like a RR+Groot character) for the same reason. There will be plenty of standard characters in this game, a couple of oddballs wouldn’t hurt anyone.
Royal’s ban came at a time when the game was at its death bed. Marvel 3 was a few months away and number of players were dwindling. It came off as a desperate attempt to keep the game alive.
Nah, i meant what i said. Players in general did not like them.
And having the oddball choices doesn’t mean fighters that fight solo, especially since the want to focus on team work this time, giant characters would defeat that purpose.
