Thatâs all well and good, but Iâd rather not be at a major disadvantage for using a team of characters I like instead of what just works well together.
Youâre the one getting triggered every time itâs brought up, not me.
More importantly, bringing it up here is something thatâs going to happen because, as I said, Mike Z spend a good chunk of his time when he was making it, figuring out the minutiae of what made MvC2 work. And when he figured that stuff out, he applied it to Skullgirls. So if Skullgirls is being brought up, most of the time itâs because of how it refined some mechanic from MvC2.
Unless of course, youâre trying to say âfuck Skullgirls PBGCâ, or âfuck Skullgirls for pushblock unblockable protectionâ, or âfuck Skullgirls for double snap infinitesâ, then you might as well be saying âfuck MvC2â for the exact same mechanics.
Skullgirls is a really boring game though and you should really stop bringing it up because no one outside of the dozen people who still play that shit want MvCI to be anything like it
Except, for the most part, people have been bringing up specific mechanics from Skullgirls that are also in MvC2.
What was the last thing from Skullgirls that I brought up? Pushblock unblockable protection, which was in MvC2 (despite not many players understanding that its there). Heck, I barely even mentioned Skullgirls when I brought that up, and instead posted Mikeâs video on MvC2âs hidden mechanics.
If youâre gonna criticize it, at least do so with actual specific issues in the game. At least that could lead to some constructive discussion in relation to MvCI. There are a good number of things to criticize, such as the way damage has been lowered over the years, the lack of multiple free air dashes, how IPS is now unnecessary now that undizzy is in the game, etc.
I kinda hope that the freeform tag-in combo system isnât free. It should cost meter, like at least 1 bar (assuming MVCI keeps the 5-bar system), otherwise shitâs goign to turn into a tag-fest
You seem to have mistaken me for someone who seriously plays Marvel. I mainly play the MVC series casually, because I know itâs supposed to be really stupid and grimy and I just donât care enough to get into it seriously. I donât like combo-heavy games in general because I feel an excessive focus on combos and resets detracts from other fundamentals.
The reason I donât like Skullgirls is because, in addition to being an excessively combo heavy game, itâs excessively pandering and annoying and doesnât have its own identity. It wouldâve been better if it had a different game as its inspiration because as it stands itâs just a shittier Marvel 2 with only a fraction of the characters (who are also really ugly). It couldâve been its own game instead, with its own completely unique mechanics and playstyle. But that possibility got squashed in favor of memes.
Can you both just give it up already? No one cares about Skullgirls and no one cares about that weird thing J0SH made. If I had any interest in playing those games, I would have done so. Weâre here to talk about games that matter.
Then why the heck are you in a thread for a game in the series that focuses on that. One that apparently has the heavy involvement of an actual Marvel player (Combofiend) at that?
Youâre lack of interest in the mechanics means you have very little that you can productively add to the discussion. And your time here has shown that you canât even add that little bit anyway, what with a number of your posts simply being complaints about esports and toning down fan service.
Iâm pretty sure thereâs going to be some combo limiting subsystem that will prevent that. The thing is, makcing free tag-ins mid combo cost meter is going to take away from hypers as being the main way to spend meter for damage. Something thatâs been a Marvel thing since the beginning. That, and you now end up making things cost more meter. For example, a âDHCâ will now cost 3 bars instead of 2, since you have to hyper, tag in, and then hyper again (which is what you see in the trailers).
Umm⌠because I want to? I still play the games and enjoy them and I understand how to play them competitively. My statements have more to do with general playstyle and aesthetics than advanced mechanics. I have just as much right to be here as you do.
Theyâve sucked in Marvel games for decades. Marvel is a truly American game.
But more importantly, I find it funny how the credibility of a game for some of you is strengthened if big name players pick it up. What ever happened to just playing what you like?
