I’ve been thinking about team building and synergy and how it might play out in Infinite, and it got me thinking about 3. Do you think that game even really placed an emphasis on synergy considering Vergil was like the best anchor for every single team?
To add to this. @“DevilJin 01” the “Lunpinko” you quoted in the OP isn’t the real Lupinko from GAF that leaked MvC3 originally since they don’t post at 4chan. There was a thread about it at GAF and dude/dudette said it wasn’t them.
“The game is being directed by Norio Hirose, whose credits include Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, Project Justice, Capcom vs. SNK, and Devil May Cry 4. We’re in good hands.” Ryce
They had me at devil may cry 4
But also consider how ridiculously over XF2 Vergil was with an assist, imo I would still say it did. I think some of the better teams we saw in Ultimate could virtually be played in any format.
I’m hoping for the opposite bc synergy/team building always added another layer of depth to the game. Not only was it a fighting game but there was also an element of rpg/rts to it as well. Anyway, based on the Twitch interview I think you will get what you want and synergy won’t really be a big deal; I’m just hoping they can make up for it in other ways
Vergil was the best anchor for teams that covered their needs well enough with the first 2 characters to not care about his mediocre assists. Zero May Cry, for example, already has a lot of value with Zero/Dante, so Vergil is just an insurance policy. Same with MorriDoom and Viper/Strider. If you’re playing a character that actually wants 2 good assists, your actual effectiveness goes down with anchor Vergil.
Storm/Mag/Sentinel and Storm/Sentinel/Mag are actually above-average teams. Storm is probably the worst character on that team, but you have TAC infinites every which way and 2 good assists with Magneto and Sentinel. Maybe not as ridiculous as Morrigan and Zero teams, but definitely viable.
Actually, they could probably make it so that, instead of just alpha counter, you can also free tag for meter during blockstun. Of course, that would mean that all characters should have invincible moves.
