Ok, so which is it? Are we treating Ryce’s leaks as truth or not? I have trouble following you guys sometimes…Ryce says there are X-Men dlc plans, which would effectively discount any notion of Perlmutter banning X-Men from MVCI. There’s also no word one way or the other on whether or not some of the X-Men/FF characters will be in the initial roster. Why don’t we give this roster a little time to flesh out before we go assuming someone who has had no evidence of direct involvement (and evidence of the opposite) is ruining the roster for us?
It’s not that complicated, if they are relegated as DLC, it means they were banned from the initial roster, but they came to some sort of compromise later.
Thats 72 days between gameplay trailer and Nash reveal trailer. From Nash to Dictator was ONLY 22 days. 83 days between Dictator reveal and Battle Systems reveal. 3 days from Battle Systems reveal to Birdie & Cammy at E3. 23 days between E3 reveal and Ken reveal at SDCC. SFV released in Feb 2016.
Banning from the initial roster then adding as dlc later doesn’t make any sense from a business standpoint. If your goal is to undermine the value of Fox’s characters, then why would you allow for them to be sold as your own merchandise? That draws attention to the X-Men’s popular demand even moreso than adding a few of them to the initial roster. Think back to MVC3. That game had 6 X-Men, and no one really said anything related to their demand other than the occasional “bring Gambit back”. Now, this potential ban/dlc nonsense is going to make people crave the characters more. Nearly everyone will buy the dlc, and X-Men will actually succeed in drawing attention away from Marvel’s other characters. It’s like everyone forgets how prohibition turned out…
The only reason they could be DLC is if the core roster already decided and Marvel has decided to let X-Men into games and get merch again which has recently happened.
The time the core game was in development was when the ban was in effect. The ban is rumored to be lifted on the games sometime soon.
Just pay attention to Avengers Academy/Future Fight mobile games.
You are overestimating the X-MEN popularity. What your saying would have been true in the 90s. The X-MEN stopped being Marvel’s premiere franchise once the MCU took off. Even before the ban Marvel lessen the X-MEN presence in favor of the Avengers. There have been more Avengers books in the last five years than X-MEN books. X-MEN haven’t had a new cartoon since 2009. X-MEN films don’t draw the amount of money that Marvel and DC films do.
And yet casuals and hardcore fans alike are making a big deal out of the possibility of no X-Men in this game. The popularity never went away. X-Men seem to resonate with people who don’t read comics but remember the 90’s Tv show. That’s why to this day many people are asking for Gambit to return despite his low relevance in recent comics or even movies. They want that style back.
I can understand if the Story part of the game was completed during the ban. It would make sense to leave them for dlc if they have no part in the story. It’s just hard for me to imagine a story without Doom. He’s by far the most multi-dimensional villain Marvel has to offer. And if that weren’t enough, Magneto is not too far behind. Compared to them, characters like Thanos are pretty boring imo. Though I guess Thanos is more in line with Capcom’s standard villains, lol.
I never said X-Men popularity went away. They are no longer on top of the food chain and stopped being a priority. I can go to Marvel’s website right now and the only thing X-Men I see is the Inhumans vs X-Men book. There are five Marvel games right now that have zero X-Men in them. The ones that do haven’t had a new mutant character in it since 2015.
Making X-men DLC is the smartest decision for Marvel. They won’t give them a personality because they won’t be in the story mode, so they won’t give FOX any merchandise, and people who will get the DLC are people who already love the X-men, disregarding any feud.
I still hope they would give Wolverine in the initial roster just for nostalgic purpose and hype over his character even without too much involvement in the Story mode.
The X-Men ban has never made sense business wise; it’s always been about a petty old miser angry that someone is sharing his toys. Why stop merchandise that would 100% go into your pocket from being made? Why push popular comic series to the side despite you making money off of it? Why not put in popular characters into your video games that could make more people buy said games? It’s nothing but pettiness, you shouldn’t look at it from a logical standpoint.
It also seems like the ban is over for some reason. Merchandise is being produced again & the comics are making a resurgence. It’s possible the MvCI roster was decided when the ban was in effect, but now that it’s over DLC is free game.
Yeah, I guess you’re right. About the roster though, I feel like they still have plenty of time to add these characters (at least the staple ones) to the base game. At the time of the trailer Capcom claimed to be 30% done, and they seem to be ok with reusing models/animations so there should be some room to adjust. The only possible issue I see is with the story. If the story is already complete or at least scripted they’re less likely to make changes to the initial roster.
With all that said, I’m beyond ready to discuss something else. How many install characters do you think we’ll get?
I think 32-38. I’m hoping we get to 58 or 60 with DLC to beat MvC2’s roster count; I think this game will have a lot of DLC with how gung-ho Marvel seems about it, so it could happen.
I wonder how many women will be in playable. Marvel’s making a big push for their female characters, while Capcom loves them some waifus so it could be much bigger than previous games. Maybe 1/3?
I can see Marvel wanting Medusa in the game. She’s the perfect character to use with the big Inhumans push and there’s a lot of flexibility with her hair powers. Capcom can use Millia Rage as a reference if needed.
