MvC 3 Netcode

Ethernet through powerlines plugs. Believe!

Online is good, matchmaking is terrible…

I’m sure we’ll be seeing a patch for the netcode, or at the very least the matchmaking in the near future. Hopefully they’ll add more features as well, such as spectator mode, replays, etc. It’s very odd for Capcom to put out a game after SSF4 that doesn’t have the same feature-set for online.

When I’m in training mode, I can get all my combos down. Online though, every match I played, if I got my hit, I messed up my combo. Its more of an input delay. When I dash, I can physically see it dashing about 1/2 sec later. So annoying.

It seems the only way I am winning online is by running and playing the full screen keep away game. Mashers are even beating me (yes they are mashing) and I just keep running into that shit when I am trying combos. This game is so masher friendly, its not even funny. So I just run now and spam assist plus full screen moves.

Anyone test TVs? Is CRT better for this like mvc2?

(PS3) Netcode has been money for me, played my boy 30 straight matches with out a single hiccup. He is in Ontario, while i am in Southern California. Matchmaking is garbo tho.

If you have that much delay consistently, then it’s a problem with your connection. My delay is definitely less than a tenth of a second, consistently.

Online is horrible by the simple fact that you cannot choose your opponent ( and by doing that, the quality of the connection ) like in Street4.
And it lags. Yay capcom.

I use wireless since I have multiple computer and PS3 setups in my house. I played for 3 hours last night online just to see, the lag isn’t even that bad. There is lag, which they’re will be. But nothing like Super, that crap was just plain S—. Would hang up for 30 seconds then the match would continue. Rage quitters are fun in MvC3

matchmaking is by far the biggest problem.

This is already confirmed to not be true.

  1. Ponder has said that there is no reason why ggpo can’t work for 3d games
  2. Older 3d FPS games use roll back netcode
  3. That japanese DBZ game is using ggpo
  4. Capcom doesn’t want to dump money into R&D in order to have ggpo work

I think that #4 is the biggest reason. I’ve done R&D work in a totally different industry but the story is the same, tons of money goes into whatever project you’re working on and you might not see a return in that investment for years. Capcom just doesn’t seem interested in doing the research to make it work for newer titles. I hope this is a wake up call and people start screaming for it to be used in SF X Tekken, because right now MVC3 online is a disgrace.

I guarantee you’ve never played a match that hung up for 30 seconds and then continued. Maybe if you were watching in spectator mode, but definitely not while playing.

Very little problem beyond what’s to be expected, better than SSF4 although not as good as it could and should be… Weirdly though overall I’ve noticed more slowdown and less input delay overall.

So, played online for the first time with a friend. We never had lag or input delay in SSF4. Yet in MvC3 we had some noticeable delay. It wasn’t bad we could still pull off combos easily. It was just there.

Aside from an occasional guy with a crap connection I’ve had very few issues with the speed and fluidity of matches myself. My gripes though are that sending invites to friends (X Box Live) only works when it feels like it. It’s faster often to just make a room and have them search immediately. It’s a very weird quirk.

That and of course the lack of spectator but that’s another issue.

really wierd how there are so many conflicting reports… maybe people are lying, maybe not, some guy in here can play japan with little input delay from like pennsylvania or some shit? doesnt seem right even by ggpo standards.

how are people defining lag? it seems that some people are confusing lag spikes (temporary screen freeze) with laggy input delay (move comes out slower than normal) they are BOTH LAG. just because shit isnt freezing doesnt mean that there isnt lag. my shit almost never freezes, but i have a HEALTHY amount of inptu delay at all times, if you turn on the lag simulator in training, the lag i’m usually playing in feels like about 2.5 bars… slightly worse than 3 bars and not as bad as 2 bars…

that is completely unplayable. even the 4 bar simulation lag is extremely noticeable, though my best connections play like that, unfortunately that NEVER happens.

so when you guys are saying it feels like playing with little lag, how about using the lagometer in training mode as an example of what amount of delay you are feeling? at least then we would know if you guys are just “adjusting” to it.

also, the game SLOWS down online. it does for ssf4 and it does for marvel, thats another problem, that capcom tries to use to “hide” input lag and sync a connection.

-dime

If I were to use Lag sim to say how my online was with my friend.
It’s about 4. It’s noticable but not bad.

iunnob out you guys but
the matchmaking is pretty good for me so far

That’s what I get, just random input delay…I hardly notice it until I miss one part of combo and just get nothing. Makes me second guess my button presses, as to whether I actually just missed it or if the delay was fucking with me. The only thing I find it comparable to at this point would be SNK Live Arcade titles playing against plus 100 pings

i cant do easy combos online! jeez this is frustrating. I have wired connection and its super fast. mvc2 had no issues, SF4 has no issues. The only other game that had issues was Tekken 6 and now this. I can do combo videos in training mode but cant do shit besides run my ass off to win

Haven’t been able to get in a single ranked or player match on XBL due to Failed to join game session or Connection to Host has been lost. I got in a couple in the lobbies and a few more on PSN though.

Input delay has been a bitch but not nearly as annoying as one hundred “Failed to join game session” messages
