theyre people w/o eye hand coordination, reaction time, or motor skills
Capcom doesn’t give a fuck about the netcode. All the people that were going to buy Marvel 3, bought Marvel 3. In all honesty, why would they spend more money fixing the netcode, to not make much money in return. The same people that bought Super Street Fighter, will buy the next Street Fighter even if the netcode blows, that is just the way it is. I would say a good 90% of gamers bitch and complain, but still shove the money out to buy the next iteration of the game regardless.
Oh, and to add to that, fuck Dante and Wesker users that just teleport around and kick you from behind cause you can’t block from the lag. I can see the Crapcom testers in the lab right now " Let’s have Dante, teleport behind the player, and hit him. With lag, you have absolutely no hope of blocking or properly countering this attack, but let’s do it anyway. "
Well, myself and my two closest friends didn’t buy MvC3 because of the bad experience we had with SF4’s netcode. HD Remix is still our main game, but we also play each other on GGPO and Supercade. We even play BlazBlue: Continuous Shit solely because it has such good netcode. We live in different regions of the country now so online is everything to us. I’d like to think that there are other people out there who won’t tolerate a subpar online experience.
I’ll say it: I don’t mind the shitty netcode because I’ve never played fighting games in a tournament setting and haven’t played games with superior netcode. I literally don’t know any better. There is no greener grass that I can be forlorn about missing out on.
When shit gets laggy I just deal with it. If I can’t block because of lag or I drop a combo because of lag making stuff choppy I shrug it off.
Do people actually believe this shit? If the net code were made better than GGPO, it wouldn’t increase sales?

These games didn’t sell that many copies by having shit garbage net code. I would be surprised to see mvc3 do over 1 million units sold and easily less than 1.5 million IMO.
The better the net code, the better the online the experience, the more people you get to play your game. The more people that play your game = more money. You think that many people would play WoW\sc2\counter strike if it had mvc3\ssf4 vc net codes? Trust me, there are a lot of FPS\RTS games on PC and there are 2 reasons they don’t get play. 1, the games just suck and 2, the net code sucks making it impossible to play. The sales figures capcom pumps out per release isn’t nearly on the level of the other developers and mostly, its the lack of a good online experience. If you told every player who touched the game they could obtain a pro level simply by playing online given a reasonable circumstances like distance or playing on wired connections, sales would @ least triple.
If you have a good game with great net code and a competitive offline scene, there is no limit. Fuck, you didn’t even need the competitive offline scene but it DOES help immensely.
You’d think the money grubbing fucks @ cRapcom would of figured this out by now but nope. They’re actually LOSING HUGE PROFITS cause they refuse to change.
QFT. Or relative truth. If online tactics didn’t work as they do now and things were at least remotely similar to an offline experience, the community would be much bigger. Capcom would also have a heads up on other developers… would be a landslide victory in sales if other fighting game franchises could not keep up. We need a big release to set the standard. Unfortunately this hasn’t happened.
Blazblue and HDR weren’t big enough, even combined. Most casual gamers don’t even know these exist.
You need a major retail release with the marketing hype - (S)SF4 and MvC3 could have done it, but decided not to.
If MK9 doesn’t have it… I’ll be shopping in the bargain bin for fighting games until proven otherwise; casuals drop them back used like they’re the next FIFA or Madden so why should we pay for them full price if they don’t deliver?
completely agreed. better games bring more players. having good netcode makes a game better. so logic points in a very easy to see direction here.

Dude, you can’t compare ANY of those games to Marvel. Those games NEED an online otherwise they just don’t run, such as WoW, CS 1.6 and StarCraft. The only one there might be an exception with is Call of Duty, but I don’t know anybody that just plays the campaign. Fighting games are first and foremost an offline experience, tournament experience, and the online aspect is still relatively new, hence why it sucks so damn bad. What I mean is the people that bought Marvel already ARE the fans. How much money would they really make if a few gamers told their friend and they advertised " New great netcode !!!, hardly any lag !! ". Chances are, not many. They will INSTEAD please the fans that already bought the million or so copies, but the chances of bringing in new, hardcore fighting gamers is extremely low.
In the grand scheme, to make money, the better approach would be to put in much more work into an online aspect in the next game they launch, whether it be Street Fighter or whatever, and advertise that as perfect online to gross the sales. Trust me, I want them to put in a better netcode, however with a business degree I can understand why they wouldn’t do it for cost effectiveness. Again I understand better the netcode, better the sales, but if they fix the netcode, what are the main fans going to do ?, buy another copy ?.
The past 10 years called, the internet is the reason why games sell. This isn’t the 80s-90s anymore, people aren’t rushing over to each others houses to play games. Games NEED good online multiplayer to stay alive. If a dude can’t play with his friend a few states(or even a few miles) away they’re not gonna buy the game, they don’t have a reason to.
You are forgetting these are Japanese companies. People don’t play games online in Japan, they walk down to their friends house and play, or they go to the local arcade. If they DO decide to play online, their infrastructure is far superior ( well… it was ) to anything North America has ( unless you are living in Silicon Valley ). Japanese gaming directors really don’t care too much, or understand how big online gaming is here in North America. I’d like to think they are starting to catch on, but it sure as hell doesn’t show.
People don’t just go over to someone else’s home to hang out in Japan. It happens but it’s not a common activity as it is here in the US. There’s a big difference in culture in regards to being invited to someone’s home as well as the fact that many of the homes there are very tiny in size, all of which are the reasons why businesses catering to outdoor activities are still abundant there (arcades being one).
The main reason why Capcom Japan keeps pushing out games with shitty netcode is because this netcode that is shitty to the rest of the world still works great WITHIN Japan. The developers probably think since no one in their country is complaining, why should there be any problem elsewhere.
I also don’t see where this idea that people don’t play online in Japan is coming from. Just because there are arcades available doesn’t mean people will only play in the arcades when the option of near flawless online play (Jpn only of course) is also available. Just the fact that you won’t have to spend money as you would at the arcade as well as having access to unlimited competition over lag free connections right in the convenience of your own home pretty much ensures that people will play online. Most folks aren’t and can’t be at the arcade 24/7, and when they’re not you can bet that they’ll play online given its advantages.
The only conclusion we can draw from this is that either the sales outside Japan doesn’t interest Capcom OR they judged that a better netcode wouldn’t affect them as much as we think they would.
but what is done is done , its a waste of time to try to judge Capcom , thinking what they could have done and why they didnt , which is pretty much what these 37 pages have been about.
now lets move onto actually attracting Capcom’s attention on how bad their netcode is , cuz they won’t know if we keep posting here on SRK
Whoops! Browser Settings Incompatible
there are people that call lag both input delay and lag spikes.
there are people that consider only lag spikes to be lag , and try to deal with input delay by adapting.
the latter will always claim that there is no lag , which is correct by their definition of what lag is : this game has indeed no lag spikes.
actually, we should hope for this, that way they would try harder next time instead of giving us a craptastic netcode, and trying to fool us saying that it would be good
Why is it that playing with people in Fance or Germany gives me better connections than people that live right by me? Doesn’t make any sense…
Or stop making fighters for another decade
But it’s an incorrect definition, so the point is mootish.
Is Player Match for scrubs only or is it just a coincidence that when I play Player Match I destroy everybody, even though my win rate on ranked is like 40%?
Well, I’m just going to say this. Until Capcom fixes their netcode, I refuse to buy another one of their FG’s. I don’t care if it’s the FG of the century, I’m not doing it. So it’s very likely I’ll be done with FG’s since I can’t connect to any games on GGPO, I don’t know how much SkullGirls will catch on, I don’t trust MK9 for crap, and even if we DO get KOFXIII stateside, SNK makes netcode even WORSE than Capcom…
capcom will never, ever improve their netcode
Hence why I’m probably done with FG’s as every fighting game that seems that have passable netcode I just don’t like to play.
Seems as though fighting game players just take it up the ass with netcode, usually reply with a “everything is irrelevant except for gameplay.”
