It could work, but would you wanna go through the loading time? Imagine the time it takes to connect a request game from training and arcade mode - times every player in the room. It can work, but it wouldn’t be fun.
But I agree some sort of distraction could be added if we can’t have spectator mode. I’ve spoken about having a live ticker that tracks the match, maybe have the commentary voice announce things as well. Maybe load a game of pong (seriously).
I thought the same thing, and it would just pop up “Here comes a New Challenger” when It was your Turn to fight… Maybe even have the health bars in a small box somewhere on the screen… If Not all that I think that Also Having the Timer along with the health bars would make watching the bars better for me… lol
man i hate the netcode! you know its garbage when training has a LAG SIMULATOR in it are you fuckin shitting me
went online for the 1st time a few days ago i went 15-0 in ranked then went like 95-20 in player match lobbies but i had to stop
cause it gave me bad habits and i cant even fuckin dbl jump during an air combo online w/o dropping it which is hella wack
basically gonna stop playing online and just session up with my community cause yeah its not really worth it and im tryna win all my local tourneys at least, i guess its cool to learn matchups and for dudes with comcast/good ass connections but not me just cant do it
You act as if the game has to broadcast all the models and crap across the internet when you play, and it doesn’t.
All it has to do is basically broadcast the state that each character is in to the people spectating, it doesn’t even have to stay synced with them. So the amount of lag something like that causes is minimal if anything; so no, theres nothing preventing MvC3 from having spectator mode other than the game was pushed out to meet a deadline before it could be fully polished. When it comes it wont affect your lag if done properly
Also a really cool idea. ‘Private Network’ games would be cool for any game actually. MvC3 went one step by allowing people to ‘drop their token’ to have a place in line, might as well take the virtual arcade idea further.
You might be right. Thing is, I might be right too. Except I have tons of interviews to support my answer and you have little more than “Capcom is being lazy!” No offense.
If done properly there’s no reason it would be. The 3D business only comes into play when discussing rollback netcode (GGPO, HDR), which this game does not use. For purposes of spectator mode this game is no different than a sprite based 2D game would be in terms of the required information being sent to spectating players.
The reason spectator mode is not in this is that Capcom clearly did not devote sufficient resources to the online during development. MvC3 feels to me like a game that had 6 months chopped off its estimated development time, thus the reason the gameplay and presentation is excellent, yet the menus and structural framework screams rushjob all over.
They had a streamed Q&A with Sven and Seth on Capcom unity and I asked about spectator mode and Sven basically said that including a spectator mode is at the top of their priority list but he is not making promises. He said it basically came down too adding more characters vs. more features. Have to give shout outs to the selfish idiots who cry about not getting 150 characters for that one.
They way he answered the whole thing made it sound like we wont be getting it any time soon (as in a month or two). Bullshit that we have come to this whole theory of Quantity > Quality but we just have to live with it. All people care about in fightin games is the roster these days… not if the game is any good.
Wow, really? Your knowledge on the matter amount to wild musings and bald assumptions, and your conclusion is “Hey, i might be right too ya know”?
Spectator doesn’t even need to keep track of the state the characters were in. It just needs to send the inputs to the spectators. No models, no physics, no graphics, no tightening up the graphics on level 3 with a gamepad from the couch.
Gotta be honest… rather have more characters. Now that the ‘shock’ of no spectator mode has passed I can live with it. Just give me a live ticker and bring on the character DLC.
Shame on Capcom for short changing the project. It should have got RE5, SSF4 funds. It’s like they were afraid people would vilify the ga-
