hmm ive experimented with a bit of dnb… well if you didnt already know this id say put the tempo around 170 bpm and start with a simple “kick-snare-kicksnare” drum pattern and build on it.

Couple of Kicks/Claps…
My boy has the FantomX6… Lots of nice bread n butter sounds… Plus, imo it has the best sequencer out of all the keyboard workstations…
check out Mannie fresh resent productions… lot of his sounds come from the fantom…
Bah new thread.
www.myspace.com/benacosta - My site for music, I haven’t made anything recently though, my computer BROKE last December and I’ve yet to get it fixed
BTW, DnB simply is Breaks sped up to 180 BPM lol
If you take your simple break beat pattern
K- - - * - - - K - - K - * - - -
The general “rule” with breaks is kick with the 1st, empty 2nd, another kick 3rd shuffle the 4th, with a snare shot 2nd and 4th. But a pattern like that can get pretty monotone, so people usually use a few various kick patters. Crazy producers export their own drum patters, cut them up and do all sorts of craziness to them.
That’s just basics though… breaks is something I like to do but have no expertise in lol
EDIT: I keep forgetting stuff…
A simple drum instrument at 3/4th sounds cool too, like a cymbal ride or something.
The “^” = cymbal ride or any one shot drum sample really, and it doesn’t go into both places, just one or the other sounds good.
Can anyone recommend a small synth? I was looking at the MicroKorg, Korg R3, or the Alesis Micron.
Good luck with that, legally, you’re not allowed to sell shit you don’t own the respective rights to… and besides, most producers find their own samples, anyway.
But good find with the drums, I’ll take drums any day.
Hola people.
I’ve been meaning to post up sooner, but I’ve been procrastinating. Anyone use imeem? I signed up yesterday and uploaded a few tracks.

Qak, Re-Sushi, and Hrrn… are some recent tracks. Actually I just finished tweaking them a few hours ago. I have a bad habit of sitting on tracks for a long time.
You’d be surpized how much $$$ amateur bedroom beatmakers or even established producers spend on sample CD’s…
Most of my drums are gonna be made from scratch anyway… the only thing I’m gonna be sampling is my own drumkit…
thanks…
im eh on production ive been doing it for years but only progressed some do to money =[
I’m thinking of getting a korg trinity. what would be everything I need to hook it up to my computer?
HTM redone

A new, well…redid an extended an old track. I remembered one of the things that frustrated me about it was that I didn’t have the types of drums I was looking for.

This is the actual original original song.

scratching is like patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time. i’ve seen people pick it up quick and others after years who are just stuck.
i’d say its like playing fighting games on stick if you’ve never played before. you gotta develop good muscle memory and feel comfortable to be able to do what you want when you want. when you break it down, your fader is just an on/off switch and your record hand is the pitch in which you play your sound.
1200s with shure m44-7 with the cartridge set all the way back and about 2 grams of weight set on the tonearm is a good setting keeping the needle light enough to not wear out records too much plus helps train your hand to not be too wild making the needle skip all over the place.
more important imho, make sure your mixer’s fader has a sharp cut off setting. it will be easier to learn fast multiple click scratches and you will learn to make smaller precise movements.
1200s/vestax pdx, shure m44-7, any decent scratch mixer from vestax/rane, and a copy of superseal is all you need to get started practicing techniques.
i’d say getting basic technique down on sounds like ahhh and fresh will help you in the long run rather than just going out searching for sounds you want to play with. ahhh is a good sound since it starts sharp, has a length of about half a spin of a 12" and fades on its own. fresh is good to learn on because it has 3 distinct aspects to it, frr eh shhh which as you learn to break it down will help you learn to rephrase the 3 parts as you wish. you can use any sounds but those 2 are pretty much what everybody learns on and is a good reference so you can hear if you are doing things when comparing to others.
but yeah good luck with that.
Some sort of audio interface or soundcard with 1/4 inch inputs. Something with midi i/o as well(Most audio interfaces have at least 1in/1out midi i/o).
Check out the stuff on www.m-audio.com for an idea of what some entry level “prosumer” stuff would be.
Hey Producers of SRK… Do any of you cats produce electronic (trance, techno, etc.) stuff? I’m REALLY interested in doing so, and was wondering if someone can help out… any help would be greatly appreciated… and if i ever hit it off big, you get props.
Very nice stuff! “The Soulful One” is just that and the strings on your other beat (blanked on the name- sorry) top it off very well!
For my hip-hop: www.myspace.com/bp7us
*I didn’t produce any of those, just rapped on 'em. I do make beats though, so I’ll put some up there sometime soon.
For my club stuff: www.myspace.com/capcrunk
*I just uploaded “The Freakiest” (so you know why if it doesn’t work) and I have an improved “Shake” on the way.
Btw, I use FL Studio 5, an oxygen8 midi controller and occasionally the MPD.
I made this song today, and I’d like your opinions. I’ve also never listened to it outside of my headphones, so the levels might be crazy.
Son ThemAll, that song eternalism v6 is nice.
Bplus, your myspace didn’t let me leave the dance rmx. to sexyback, it was scary. I like that song shake…
Haha, I guess JT really likes you Thanks though.
I listened to “Good Times.” I think it’s really good. Nothing was distorting as far as I could tell, so your levels are probably pretty good. I think it’d be interesting if the bass were a bit stronger, but that’s just my humble opinion. Nice work
Finally made a mypace page for my beats…
ok peoples
i have a question about m boxes mixers and all that stuff.
so i use reason and make some pretty phat beats. I work with a rapper named traverse in philly and wanted to know the best situation to record him in. i just got a new apt with an attic that will be our sound booth (open insulation for the win!!! and cancer)
I wanted to get an m box, and run the mic upstairs. I’ll use protools to actually lay the vocal track down. Should i bother getting a mixer or can i Just use the M box or the software to keep track of all that. we are only running one mic so don’t think i huge mixer is really that important since most everything else is done in reason which has it’s own mixer. just the mic levels are what i need.
so, what are all your setups like? i don’t see the need to buy so much hardware when the internet has so much free software like reason refills and different synths and things.
The mixer would serve no purpose other than a mic preamp in that situation. If you’re not actually mixing many simultaneous inputs, then the actual mixing functions of the board serve no purpose. You may still want it for the channel inserts and whatnot.
