"Movie And A Show" Thread: Popcorn Optional

It is not my childhood they would ruin as I have perspective and subconsciously compartmentalize different takes on the same ideas.

Saw a copy of Metropolis at my local Walmart for some reason. Hopefully itā€™ll be there when I get paid, though I honestly have nothing to worry about. People donā€™t know what that movie isā€¦

Starr Carter is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for whatā€™s right. THE HATE U GIVE is based on the critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller by Angie Thomas and stars Amandla Stenberg as Starr, with Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby, Issa Rae, KJ Apa, Algee Smith, Sabrina Carpenter, Common and Anthony Mackie.

ā€¦based on the novel.

Not really hyped for thisā€¦

Iā€™m sure thatā€™s the case, but people keep saying referencing the line ā€œruining childhoodā€ again and again and again and again. . . . . .

Franchise fatigue is setting in.

lol theyā€™ve gone Jurassic Park. This trailer looks a lot better than the last one, still think it will be terrible, hopefully my super low expectations will make it a fun movie to see anyway.

metropolis the old 20s silent movie or the anime remake?

also that predator trailer gave waaaay too much away

Itā€™s the anime remake. Iā€™ve seen clips of it here and there for years, so Iā€™m excited to pick it up.

PREDATORā€¦
ehhhh I think this is another case of a trailer showing a bit too much. Itā€™s not as bad as that infamous Terminator Genisys one though; still makes me laugh that they had a huge revelation about a character right in the damn trailer for that. The Super Predator* should probably have been a surprise. (*haha isnā€™t that right, Hilary Clinton?)

I just saw Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

I usually do positive vs negatives, but I couldnt find enough positives lol

Very mediocre. Safe and by the numbers. There is a young tech kid that is very annoying.

The new characters are bland. Pratt has little spark or charm due to the writing. Jeff Goldblum is basically an extended cameo. There is a new dino shown which is cool.

A character does something at the end which is so very obviously a setup for a sequel

Even the action/violence feels like a Saturday morning cartoon. JP 1 had sequences with bite despite being a PG-13 film.

Overall: 5/10

My take on Fallen Kingdom-

I went on wanting to see a bunch of stupid people make stupid decisions and get eaten by dinosaurs. The movie was terrible, but it did not disappoint.

A Chucky remakeā€¦

I canā€™t wait. The stories were getting convoluted.

Wowā€¦

I had the wierdest sense of dĆ©jĆ  vu a few days ago when I tried to watch a movie I had long forgotten about watching. The weirdest part was that I could not remember anything about the plot, but the settings and roles of the characters in the film were completely familiar. The film in question was 1993ā€™s ā€˜Necronomicon: Book of the Deadā€™ and it was a film heavily based on Lovecraftian lore. It featured three separate stories connected by the reading of passages from the Necronomicon. It wasnā€™t really horror in the traditional sense as it was more about unsettling atmospheres and supernatural or science fiction kind of scenarios. It was not the greatest thing I had watched, but at least it was better than 1983ā€™s ā€˜Twilight Zone: The Movieā€™ as far as horror short film compilations go.

Here is a trailer:

I also managed to watch 1993ā€™s ā€˜Cronosā€™ a few nights prior and have to say that it is one of my top 3 favorite films written or directed by Guillermo del Toro. The sense of atmosphere, the acting, and the plot are all amazing. The story centers around a device crafted by a genius 16th century alchemist that gives its user immortality at a great moral and physical cost. It is discovered by an elderly antique shop owner and subsequently attracts the attention of a very rich and powerful man who would do anything to get it. What ensues is a feud with supernatural elements and psychologically twisted desires spiralling out of control.

Here is a poster because the trailer contains spoilers:

This sounds quite intriguing, Iā€™ll put it on the list

To be honestā€¦I didnā€™t hate the Robocop remake much.
Stillā€¦I hope Neill does it justice.

Agreed. While I didnā€™t hate it, I only had a single question when the credits rolled . . . . . . Why?

Especially when it had Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson in itā€¦
