I don’t know why anybody has done a general topic on these and done this yet but in brawl their are quite a few movement glitches, similar to wavedashing, or just plain movement features that many ppl are unaware of. Some are char specific some are not, Ill start with some general ones. Some of these arn’t glitches just things that I almost never see ppl doing or when ppl see me doing them they go all O_o. Maybe I can put this in video form, hmmmmm will need time though.
General:
Wavebouncing: Basically it allows you to move in one direction then immediately invert your momentum along the x-axis, while performing an action. This is normally done with B moves for zoning or positioning/mixup game, for this im going to use pikachu’s down B, okay go towards edge running jump off edge do a quater circle towards the stage, thats down to the direction thats towards the stage and you will now do thunder off the edge but land on the edge yourself, a devastating move against ppl who arn’t used to this.
Dash breaking: you can cancel your dash by pressing guard allowing you to slide into a forward smash (or do a power shield then counter hit), warning the guard while running comes out slower than normally.
Power shield:Alot of people don’t seem to realize that if you power shield you have a better frame advantage aka can cancel out of block faster.
Footstool Jumping: press jump while on top of them, will work in air while invunerable (aka dodging), or blocking, or on the edge.
Foxtrotting(for real this time): Because the dash animation starts before you actually start running with many chars you can fake out the fact that your running and make your opponent wiff a move, and or mix them up. However in brawl excessive use of this tech will probably cause you to trip alot, greatly lowering its effectiveness.
RARing (Reverse Aerial Rushing): Basically while your running jump but face backwards. Run forward RIGHT before you jump press back then jump and start pressing forward again this is very useful with anyone whos back air is 1 million times better than their forward air (cough dedede cough), for poking.
**
Instant Edge Guard** : Run at the edge pressing DownForward when you fall off press Back, to grab the edge near instantly.
Mortar Slide: To mortar slide, move forward, press down(or left or right) on the c stick, then press up and Z immediately after fast(not too fast though check the timing in practice mode its pretty tight). It can be done whether the dash hits or not. This move is primary used with Snake but everyone can use it… I think.
Land Canceling:Some moves when you hit the ground will land cancel and will allow you to do a ground attack faster than you normally would warning it is not instantly, there is 3-4 frames(normally more) in which you do your landing animation and can’t do anything, WARNING you can land cancel your air dodge then you can’t do anything for 1 maybe 2 frames not entirely sure but a projectile or a move going through you at that moment WILL hit you.
Character Specific(please add to this I don’t have many cause we only understand a few of them).
Quick Attack Cancel(Pikachu): This is a pretty amazing tech, basically if your second quick attack is into the ground you can immediately do a move like thunder :P, or down air, or yet another quick attack, allowing you to dash all over your damn screen. The easiest way to do this is set your B moves to the c-stick.
Pika Slide (Pikachu) : down tilt press back, you basically wave dash in the other direction(aka can attack out of it), limited use but still this is a good way to punish roll dodges.
High Jump (ZSS): Basically your up B keeps your momentum and lets you jump higher :D, so in the MIDDLE of your jump if you do up B you go about 50% higher, giving ZSS even more recovery options like she didn’t have enough with down B over B and up B now she gets more jumping how silly.
High jump (Lucas): For Lucas, if you activate is PK fire on the same frame that you use your double jump your jump is extended incredibly far. The way it works is that Lucas’s double jump animation puts him face-down for a split-second and if you start a PK fire IMMEDIATELY when you double-jump the PK fire will come out while you’re facing down. This results in the momentum from the PK fire pushing him up along with his jump. Using this Lucas can pretty easily and consistently jump high enough on FD that he gets put in the little magnifying glass without using his up+b. This is also made easier by setting C-stick to specials.
Infinite Cape (MK): Pick MK stand on ground do down B and keep holding down or down at an angle and mash up smash, you never appear again as long as you keep mashing, and you can move around on the ground while doing this, using this for stalling will result in a ban.
Floating (Toon Link, and sorta with (can’t move it around)Sheik, Sonic, maybe more?) : this is most well known with toon link if you have a move that makes you fall faster but DOESN’T make you stop moving first, and your jumping speed= the change in speed the move applies you can hover while doing your down air :D, with toon link his will allow you to guide it so you can hover left and or right for the little bit of time its lasts, often times you can use this to fool opponents who are trying to punish you after they launch you up or just to hover across a platform hitting everyone with your down air.
**
Wall cling after up B (Lucario, Squirtile)**: quite an important move for these 2 characters. basically after you do your up B you can still cling to the wall allowing you to do another jump, this can save lucario’s easily gimpable recovery quite a bit especially cause you can attack after you jump off the wall.
Wing Canceling (Pit):Jump then cancel into up+b. You now get full flight, and if you attack before it’s over, you then still have all of your jumps, your glide, and another up+b.
Dragonic Trot (Yoshi): It entails doing a jump, double jump and an aerial before Yoshi’s feet leave the ground. Yoshi will do a little slide on the ground and can do just about any ground attack out of it sorta like a Melee wavedash.
wolf/fox/falco over B sometimes glitches far under the level when trying to grab an edge, wolf CAN DO UP B afterwards for some reason ,fox and falco are f----d
please post more weird movement or glitches similar to this, or just adv techs that the average player doesn’t know about
Thx to the ppl posting below for your additions to this list.
