If you mean Melee, I agree it often gets over looked. There was a massive amount of skill involved with that game.
Uh…dude…VF has “canned combos” if you want to go that route. Tekken does indeed have premade combos such as Feng Wei’s f+212, or his b+2,3,4,2 but just like VF, you don’t have to do the whole string, you can stop mid string, take Jin, his laser scraper is b,f, 212, but in a combo you can do ECD+1, b,f,21, b,f, 212_1,2~2, d+4
(For non tekken notation its qcf square, back foreward triangle square, back foreward triangle square triangle or square, x(hit x again) down circle)
Uh, the only people I know with “one button 5 times for a canned combo” are Law with his 1,1,1,1,1 and Lee with his d+4,4,4
lol.
Marvel, by far. If you’re just picking up most 3D fighters, you’ll lose to anyone who knows how to play, but if you just mash buttons, you’ll generally at least hit them a few times. If you just pick up Marvel and play a top player, you’re most likely going to get perfected repeatedly.
Oh, you were being sarcastic. Melee at tournament level is pretty ridiculous, just sayin’…
ROFLMAO!
I completely agree with you there, perhaps not on the same level though.
WWE series
CLOSE THREAD
SFA(whatever the last one was)/VF5/MvC2. Not in that order.
In my opinion. Not a well-formed or well-informed opinion. Never played any of these competitively, but I’ve watched videos.
It takes a lot of skill to not get hit once and then CCed away in the SFA series (mind games mind games mind games)
VF5 is ridiculously technical, with massive mind games and other depth to boot and
I’m not sure what goes on in MvC2, since I’m pretty sure I had gone into seizures trying to follow the action.
marvel super heroes and vampire saviour take a lot of skill from wat ive seen
I am puzzled by the lack of Guilty Gear. I thought it was pretty much the top in skill requirement?
I haven’t played all that many fighting games, but I do own GG:AC, and from my months of play on the game, I do think it deserves mention, at least.
Its not execution; anyone who was spent some time with a few fighters (I suggest 2-D) will have little problem with the motions and combos.
No, its the wide berth to deal with all the variables and mindgames on hand. A few examples, like the yomi games, the throw mixups, the frame advantages, disadvantages, the ringouts/wall situations, the fact many character’s black book combos change depending on weight class of the character, and even whether they are on “open” or “closed” stances, the dodging system. Personally, I have another side that I deal with, as I am a more flowchart based player, although I hear that flowcharts are not popular with many players. And then, like many other fighters, experienced players know the match-up data and disadvantages/advantages of situations/moves from the opponent, something that takes awhile for a newb to realize, more so than other games I would say, so its much easier for a experienced player to pick through the gaps and mistakes made by a less experienced person; mashing does not really help because the game is not chaotic enough, a clear mind is easily able to do win out over the lesser opponent. It is also the most balanced series alive, so you cannot simply rely on just one overpowered/simplistic tactic to get you far (they don’t really exist). I recall VF4 EVO revisions being extremely polished; hell VF4 ver.C was almost perfect. I can only assume VF4 Final Tuned is the most balanced game in existence.
And then VF3, with its varied environments and terrain adds even more to this, although it is far less combo heavy than VF4 and especially 5.
The thing I don’t like about VF is that when people hit each other it doesn’t look like the hits are connecting. It probably does take the most skill though.
Point blank, VF is the most skill based fighter besides MVC2 and Tekken/DOA/SC/GG
Skill-based =/= dexterity tests added solely for dexterity tests. So nobody better be claiming Melee or many doujin fighters.
I claim ST/HDR, on account that it requires in-depth knowledge of matchups and the importance of positioning.
DOA?
Huh? What?
Its fun, I admit it, but it has too many failings in its already simplistic system to have even a moderate skill gap.
Just so you know, I was just making a somewhat rash generalization, as I haven’t played many of those games I mentioned in quite some time.
people are forgetting FUC, every bnbs require tk cancels to do them:looney:
GG is other game that requires a lot of skill, but what game doesnt require skill at high level, its obvious that everyone would name their favorite game, so this kind thread is useless, the mvc players would say marvel, the sf would say sf, the gg player sould say gg, and so on; some people would name some obscure fg that they feel that deserves to be named , eventually a flame war would start cuz the fanboyism is always present
Based solely on
Hokuto no Ken. Any new player that picks up a controller against an expert player will barely have enough time to pick their character before they will already be dead.
Clearly, however, this is not the best/only criteria for judging how “skill-based” a game is.
