I’m assuming they’re saying Kung Lao and Quan Chi for later, can’t let out all ya big names at once or no one will buy the download able content.

They need to make Quan Chi a DLC before any other MK character for the fact he’s one of the main characters in the fucking game. It’d be stupid not to.

UMK3 is far from broke. There are a few broken elements here and there that are not easy to abuse, but they are there. There are very few infinites as well. I can think of a lot of 2D fighters I’ve played that are far more broken than UMK3.

Having a lot of usable tournament characters means there’s something inherent to the game’s system that allows for potential to win with a larger cast. UMK3 has a very small top tier, a huge mid tier, and a small bottom tier. Almost all characters have counter characters who are traditionally ranked very differently otherwise and might not stand a chance against certain ones in between. There are, like any other game, a few characters who are very powerful, but most, if not all exploits other than the 3 or so universal infinites in the game, are so limited or difficult that they don’t break the entire game.

Here’s a tier list for UMK3:

Top Tier:

Kabal

Human Smoke

Kung Lao

Ermac

Nightwolf

Mid Tier:
6. Kano
7. Reptile
8. Robo Smoke
9. Sindel
10. Jax
11. Sonya
12. Kitana
13. Stryker
14. Scorpion
15. Unmasked Sub-Zero
16. Jade
17. Liu Kang
18. Sektor

Bottoom Tier:
19. Classic Sub-Zero
20. Sheeva
21. Cyrax
22. Mileena
23. Shang Tsung

The top 10 are usable, and you do see them frequently in finals for tournaments, however the top 4 most often seen are Kabal, Human Smoke , Kung Lao and Nightwolf. Ermac, Reptile and Robot Smoke get a lot of use too. All these characters can mess eachother up, but Kabal overall is the best, but not God. (Some people say a game’s broken because of a god tier character, and UMK3 has none). Even the bottom tier can win against the top tier. I’ve seen some nasty Sheeva’s that can even beat Kabal, which is Sheeva’s counter.

The skill gap in UMK3 is enormous. The skill gap rivals that of SF2, if not more so. The game just has that “MK” name attached to it, so everyone just assumes it is bad. Like I’ve always said, UMK3 was good by accident.

And no, UMK3 is not the best fighter. I would agree that it’s a top 10 fighter though.

Isn’t Kabal comparable to Noob from MKT, the way I see it the game has only few usable characters for tournament situations…Kabal is just to damn good.

Not even close. Kabal isn’t broken, his spin is, but him as a character isn’t. Noob is the most broken character in any fighting game ever made period. So no, Kabal doesn’t compare to noob. And Noob is a god tier character, there isn’t a god tier in UMK3.

Like I said, the top 10 can easily beat Kabal. And even some really good Sheevas can aswell.

OTG unblockable throw projectile that leads to easy infinite, as well as other moves that reverse your inputs in the middle of the fight. I know there’s a lot more, but I’m not sure off the top of my head.

I agree with you’re take on the game in general, but I strongly argue the shiva point. A decent Kabal will always beat even the strongest Sheeva player…just the nature of the game.

Average player using a top tier character beating an amazing player using a bottom tier is a universal problem in most games.

Man I could of swore Rain was in UMK3. Is he in the Genesis version?

True, but depends on how severe the disadvantage is. In 3s, Sean can never beat Yun but in T5DR a good Lei can beat a great Kaz. In UMK3, I’ve never seen a good Sheeva beat a awesome Kabal…he’s just to strong for most of the cast.

He is not even remotely close to Kabal, and nor is Kabal on any kind of God tier or anything. There was another MK thread here and someone tried to argue that, and its simply not true. Tier #1-6 can compete with Kabal.

Yes, and it should ALWAYS be like that.

Now, Kabal vs Reptile, Lao or HSmoke…thats another story.

Yeah, Rain and Noob are playable in the SNES/Genesis ports of UMK3, but Sheeva isnt in either version.
