Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

My girlfriend mains Deathstroke. I switched to Kitana recently, but I still play bits of Wonder Woman on the side.

I really hope this game gets some tournament play. Its a blast to play and I’ve yet to become bored with it. So far I think I’m going to stick with Baraka; Scorpion and Captain Marvel were my top two favorites until I tried Baraka out, he’s just too much fun to play as.

Hopefully tournaments pick this game up. I’d support the game even though I’m scrub level.

Lobelia, I love your Samus avatars.

Thanks, homie.

When MK:Deception came out, there was a certain message board I used to go to where a group of high level players were pushing for that game to be admitted into a certain tournament (I forget which) in the hopes that the fighting community would see how terrible the game was. These guys thought that if they managed to do something like that, Ed Boon (creator of Mortal Kombat) would realize how broken the fighting system was and totally revamp it in the sequel. I’m not sure if it worked, but it seemed like a very interesting idea. From what I hear, MK vs. DC Universe is a big step forward from the previous games in the series, but it still has a long way to go to become a reputable franchise in the fighter community. Maybe tournament exposure (and the subsequent unfavorable response) could actually work in favor of the Mortal Kombat series.

As a long time fan of the series, ever since MK2 (I even played MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero and liked it), it’s almost been a dream to see this game with a deep and creative fighting system. The character variety gives it a lot of potential. I remember people on that message board used to toss ideas back and forth about possible system mechanics. Like maybe making Scorpions rope spear thing into a mini-stance, swinging around like Ivy in Soul Calibur. There were a bunch of ideas that intended to give each character a distinctive play style.

Alas, it is but a dream…

Is the framerate shitty and sporadic for anyone else or is my computer doing something funny?

If any MK game will be at major tournaments, it will be a 2D MK. Moreover it will be UMK3

MKvsDC is bad, people just need to play UMK3.

You are wrong.

Explain why.

I agree with half of what he said. So, elaborate.

Between this game and SF HD I am in heaven with my brand new HRAP3. Can’t wait till TRNG sends me my Seimitsu buttons. :lovin:

I knew The Flash was awesome and GL is my second favorite. Flash’s combos are mind-numbing. I’m finally getting the pro moves down pat. Still can’t finish the combo challenges though. That’s what I’ll be working on in the near future.

UMK3 is the best 2D Mk no doubt about it. Mkvsdc is the best in the 3D series, you can’t compare them to each other they are too different.

Btw I got an xbox today so I hope to get some games with you guys.

Agreed.

UMK3 is not only the best MK, its one of the best 2d fighters out there, period.

ehhhhh…I’d say that’s going out on a limb.

Not entirely. I mean, from a presentation standpoint, sure. It’s garish and ugly in places, and out of a relatively huge cast, there are only 8 voice sets, excluding bosses.

From a gameplay standpoint, however, I think it’s safe to say it’s in the top 25 best 2D fighting games ever made.

lol, fuck top 25, this aint anywhere in the top fighters category. UMK3 cant even be compared to fucking street fighter 2 turbo, let alone be a great fighting game. UMK3 is decent at best, same as mk2. fuck dc.

So, from now on, top 25 fighting games will be 25 revisions of SFII ^^

I’m not doubting it’s superiority to a lot of 2D fighters and fighters in general. The game has lasted long, has had several revivals via kailera, Nintendo DS and XBL. And it’s aged really well as a fighter.

But the best? Naw…I’ll give you top 25 hell, even top 15 probably. But not THE best. No way.

Wait…what? Is this an inside joke, or are you being serious? It’s always funny to hear people who either haven’t played the game, or have no idea what they’re talking about call a game bad.

UMK3 is far from broke. There are a few broken elements here and there that are not easy to abuse, but they are there. There are very few infinites as well. I can think of a lot of 2D fighters I’ve played that are far more broken than UMK3.

Having a lot of usable tournament characters means there’s something inherent to the game’s system that allows for potential to win with a larger cast. UMK3 has a very small top tier, a huge mid tier, and a small bottom tier. Almost all characters have counter characters who are traditionally ranked very differently otherwise and might not stand a chance against certain ones in between. There are, like any other game, a few characters who are very powerful, but most, if not all exploits other than the 3 or so universal infinites in the game, are so limited or difficult that they don’t break the entire game.

Here’s a tier list for UMK3:

Top Tier:

  1. Kabal
  2. Human Smoke
  3. Kung Lao
  4. Ermac
  5. Nightwolf

Mid Tier:
6. Kano
7. Reptile
8. Robo Smoke
9. Sindel
10. Jax
11. Sonya
12. Kitana
13. Stryker
14. Scorpion
15. Unmasked Sub-Zero
16. Jade
17. Liu Kang
18. Sektor

Bottoom Tier:
19. Classic Sub-Zero
20. Sheeva
21. Cyrax
22. Mileena
23. Shang Tsung

The top 10 are usable, and you do see them frequently in finals for tournaments, however the top 4 most often seen are Kabal, Human Smoke , Kung Lao and Nightwolf. Ermac, Reptile and Robot Smoke get a lot of use too. All these characters can mess eachother up, but Kabal overall is the best, but not God. (Some people say a game’s broken because of a god tier character, and UMK3 has none). Even the bottom tier can win against the top tier. I’ve seen some nasty Sheeva’s that can even beat Kabal, which is Sheeva’s counter.

The skill gap in UMK3 is enormous. The skill gap rivals that of SF2, if not more so. The game just has that “MK” name attached to it, so everyone just assumes it is bad. Like I’ve always said, UMK3 was good by accident.

And no, UMK3 is not the best fighter. I would agree that it’s a top 10 fighter though.

UMK3 = Midway’s XvSF. Everyone is broken, but the tiers are decided on the level of brokenness.

I seriously must be missing out on an inside joke, people can’t be this ingnorant and think they are right.

If you actually read my post I basically said the game is balanced because everyone has something(s) that makes them good and tournament viable. Just like XvSF. It’s just how well they can use that tool(s) is what divides them into tiers.

kthx.
