yeah, kinda late to the game but wasn’t 100% sold on it given previous MK games…
in the end decided that, though not a huge MK fan, I like the franchise enough to warrant the purchase.
at the very least I’ll have a odd ball stick in the collection.
never really been a big fan of american layout and parts… this should be interesting.
:karate:
Gots mine preordered!! Beast of a stick for what… minus the game $90! That’s a good deal imo. Even if you do replace some parts that’s still a lot of wood… hehe wood. Besides, turns out they make other games than fighting games, I know right! I shit you not! A lot of these are great games from the 80’s and 90’s and play on a magic thing called MAME. Most of these so called ‘games’ only use 1-4 buttons. So no shortage of games to use this stick on for me! :razzy:
I also commented that even if i was an MK fan, it wouldn’t override my good judgement on stick parts. If i was a fan and bought this, i’d definitely be looking to replace the parts later on.
The competition model is the BEST american sticks get, outperforming all their earlier ones for sure. Only a fool would say otherwise.
And sorry, but 2005 was a loooooong time ago. Happ is not the standard among arcade sticks anymore. Especially since the U.S has seen the light and embraced japanese parts.
You clearly don’t know what you are talking about dude. Convex is THE best button style for many reasons.
The majority of gamepad buttons are convex too. Heck, even majority of non-gaming device buttons are also convex, proving how the shape is UNIVERSALLY much more ergonomic than concave.
Doubtful japanese style has largely taken over. I’d bet that not only are there are far more Sanwa/Semitsu than there are Happ users today, but many of those were former Happ guys at that.
As for the MK layout, i’m just saying i’d never buy a stick stuck exclusively like that. Just a bad value imo. I dunno maybe you guys are high rollin’ though, and can afford to go dropping a hundred on a stick that you will not be able to use(comfortably) with any other game series.
Not I.
Good luck with that lol. The layout might be good for MK, but it would prove to be shit for anything else.
You could force yourself to make it work out of willpower, but it would never be as comfortable & ergonamic as a traditional stick layout.
I was a lifelong Happ player too with the same attitude. Took only a few hours playing on a friend’s custom Sanwa one afternoon in 2009 to convert me. Could not go back.
Don’t get me wrong i still have fond memories of playing on Happ parts. However, nostalgia does’ent mean jack when faced with the superior gaming comfort, accuracy, and ergonomics that japanese style provides.
From all the pictures, it looks like every connection has a quick disconnect on it. So the only question is, will this thing be common ground? If it is, it will be a snap to dual mod.
Actually, I’ve been thinking about this, and you could play MvC3 with the MK layout. Map Special to LB, Light to A, Medium to RT, Heavy to B, Partner 1 Assist to X, and Partner 2 Assist to Y. Basically you would be using the lower 4 buttons for attacks and the upper 2 buttons for tagging. This might actually be beneficial for someone who has a habit of accidentally hitting assists while button mashing too. Also, Tekken 6 is a 4 button game that would be playable on this layout as well. Try thinking outside of your box sometime and you’d realize there are other possibilities out there.
Nope. You’re wrong. He’s right. Only works for Mortal Kombat. I thought it would at least work on MAME since many games from the 80’s only have 1 or 2 buttons. But nope, still said it wouldn’t work. I cancelled my pre-order and am trying to stop the thousands of other people who are wrong too. :blah:
you know i think it would work well with king of fighters. i would just put the middle button off. but other than that, muffman has a point. this layout is very limiting.
thanks for the link chuu. but I think i’ll just leave this one.
lol well i clearly missed that. but yeah, the layout is still limiting. however, the price is great for tie in.
Ultimately, I dont know if its worth it for me. i have too many fight sticks already. I would have bought it if i was a hardcore mk fan. but i doubt i would play mk more than my snk and capcom games.
Is it me or does the stick on this pdp stick look a lot father apart from the buttons than the original mk layout
This is the best picture I could fine I know its missing the extra tag/run button but all the pictures of the six button layout still look mostly the same just with the extra button
Yes, the layout is a bit more spreadout, but for people who plan to ‘modify’ it, it shouldn’t be a problem. I plan to replace the top as well with a bit more accurate MK template (MK3/UMKIII).
About the stick not working, I’m sure someone out there will make a driver to use on PC, and for the Xbox 360 version, it should be an easy plug and play for Windows.
Because the schematics is designed for PS3/Xbox 360 and not PC. Just like the MadCatz sticks, you’d have to dl a driver for the PS3 TE/SE, but should be fine using the Xbox 360 TE/SE.
Cool lookin huge stick but eww that MK layout is ugly and inefficient. And concave buttons don’t have the place in my heart they used to. You really gotta love old school MK to get this I’d rather get another TE. Still, it could be modded.
