Mortal Kombat (2011) Guide App for Android/iOS v1.1/v1.0

Well if some of you may know I have put out an app for both MvC3 and SSF4 that is basically a moves list for the 2 games with some extra data and a notes feature.

Well the same has been done for Mortal Kombat on Android and iOS.

I posted it on Android store on Monday and submitted to the iOS store on the same day, so the iOS one is still not finished being reviewed yet, and as usually takes about a week. I’m hoping it will be out on Monday.

The Android version was updated last night and is now has 100% of the moves list. Prior to that I was missing a few finishers. Unfortunately when the iOS one comes out, it is going to be the first version missing a few finishers, however I already have the update ready with the moves list, but I can’t submit it until v1.0 is available.

Below is a list of the features included in the app.

  • Basik Attacks - Unique normals per character!
  • Special Attacks - Including fireballs and teleports!
  • Super Meter Attacks - Enhanced, Tag, and X-Ray Attacks!
  • Kombos - All the kombos you need!
  • Finishing moves, including Stage Fatalities and Babalities!
  • Notes - Take individual notes for each character and save it for later viewing

As of now I only have 1 more update planned which includes the locations of everything in the Krypt. Not sure when I will get around to this but I am going to be adding this. I may do it tomorrow if I have time. There may be additional things added but nothing is 100% planned as of now.

And just to let you know, the list of moves that is currently in there is the same thing that is in the in-game move list, so I don’t want to lead you all on thinking you will be getting extra kombos and stuff before you purchase it. Personally I think the in game moves list is terrible so this is actualy helping me a bit. I’ve personally been using it a bunch because this game is 100% new to me and I don’t know any moves.

Also if you have any feedback on the graphics of the moves lists and stuff please post them, good or bad. Another member of the community Aval0n helped out with the graphics and we’re thinking of updating them as well but would like some feedback. We tried to keep it very MK’ish with the moves list however we just want to hear feedback. And there will not be any official images ever in this app so if you comment on that it will be ignored - I do not want to get another cease and desist letter like I did for my SSF4 one.

Anyways, here are the links below to the items in their respected stores. The cost is $.99 and it requires no internet connection so once you have it dl’ed you have it for good and dont need network to get moves and stuff like some other apps.

Also, if you see any wrong inputs on the game … PLEASE tell me so I can fix them, thank you. I’ll use this thread to kind of track bugs and stuff found in there.

just bumping this because i’m curious if anybody has gotten this yet, and the iOS one should HOPEFULLY be approved and reviewed by today or tomorrow. i already have the update for iOS ready to be uploaded and submitted, which includes quite a bit of updates to the moves list.

i’m also wondering, those of you who purchased this … would you prefer to see the “1,2,3,4” notation instead of the abbreviations for the button names? (FP, BP, FK, BK).

i’ve heard some people, from the reviews, saying they would like to see the actual buttons from xbox/ps3 controllers, however obviously since it is cross platform I can’t just do that. also, since a lot of peopl earen’t using default button configs, that wouldn’t help much either. however I’m thinking about making it use 1,2,3,4 and then just having a “key” which will basically say “1 = FP = X (Xbox360) = Square (PS3)” for each button. just wanted to get some feedback first though.

Great app!!!

The sad side is that my phone is a Windows Mobile, any chance?
Congrats anyway:tup:

I respond better to numbers myself especially since I’ve played on three different controllers and button notation just throws me off.

I’ve been working on doing a tekken version of this. There’s only an iPhone version of a tekken frame data guide. Might shoot some droid language-related questions your way thru pm or in the dmv thread, purbeast.

Gonna grab the app and post my thoughts in a bit.

Number notations for buttons are best, imo. If you can, see if you can include a legend if there isn’t one. That eliminates the number vs letters notation argument.

well the iOS one is finally available.

Mortal Kombat (2011) Guide for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

the moves list is slightly out of date because i submitted this last monday before everything was discovered, but the updated list has already been submitted and as usual takes about a week for apple to review everything.

and i am going to start working on an update tonight that will help out with the button notation issue.

Hey PB - if you remember, I tested out and wrote the MvC3 Guide review on TA.

Unlike MvC3 though, you have very tough competition already entering the market late. I’m floored by the “MK Miniguide” put out by Hologamma - they came up with an in-app update system which delivers updates instantly, instead of having to pass them through Apple’s official (and lengthy) update process.

I hate to say it but, their app is also a lot more visually appealing than this one (based on the few screenshots I saw in the link posted above). I strongly suggest you download their app and see what the competition has already put out there, in order to put out a competitive app for MK which offers something different/unique possible (to get buyers).

Yea I saw that app already, and it looks good. Most apps will look good when you use official artwork. Their app gets the updates cause it requires the web to get them, but also means network access is always need to download the updates.

As far as the artwork, I have no clue how they are getting away with that because it is 100% illegal to use official artwork. Personally I do not want any legal issues so I will never be going that route again (as I did with SSF4 app which was pulled by Capcom).

I guess their price being $2 may help me out since mine is 1/2 the price heh.

It is a shame that official artwork can’t be used in this app. As the guy that created the art for purbeast’s apps I can tell you that these companies have a huge boner on when they see people profiting using their official artwork. At least they have for us. Hell, Capcom pulled a youtube video of my PHONE showing the MVC3 app on it before it came out and that was all my original artwork, nothing official.

Originally when purbeast and I started on this app I created some mock up images with Sub-Zero’s official artwork it looked really good.

If you look at that Hologamma guide, if you take out the official art, it’s pretty comparable to what we put out.

Keep in mind that I just do this stuff to help pur out cause he’s a good friend, and for my general love of the fighting game community. I do the art in my spare time and am not profiting from this.

When these apps get pulled, it’s a huge pain in the ass to get them back up. How several of these other apps can still exist using official artwork I have no clue.

Unlike Brady and someone else that I’ll leave un-named… Pur and I aren’t the type to go crying to the manufactuer to try to have the guys app pulled for using it.

Well I just put out an update that includes the following:

  • Added a preferences screen so the user can select which button icons they would like to display. Simply press the MENU button on your phone to access this, and press BACK to save them and return to the main menu. The button icons include the following:

    • Mortal Kombat Button Icons
    • Numbered button Icons
    • Xbox 360 Default Button Icons
    • Playstation 3 Default Button Icons
  • I have also fixed some more errors that were in the Finishing Moves area and Kombo area for some players.

The Android one is already live and I submitted the iOS one to the store last night, so it should be a few days before it becomes available. If anyone gets the update could you please leave feedback in here good or bad please? Would just like to hear what people’s opinion on it are or if they find any bugs … thanks.

Will try, thanks!
