Most people put their favorite characters on their faceplate. I’m way to egotistical for that, so instead I’m going to bust my ass making a digital painting of my facebook photo and make it imitate the official SFIV character art. I’ve dropped a few hours into it and it’s looking pretty rad. I figured I should go ahead and open it up to feedback to see what people think of the idea and what I have done so far.
But yeah, I got a long way to go before it’s done.

LOL, me in a Bison outfit in that pose would have been ridiculous. It would have taken more effort and time though, cause for this one I have a direct reference. Anyways, I worked more on it and here is what I got so far.
This illustration kinda makes me look a little like Captain N, lol.
I’m assuming you meant the left hand (my right). The painting was a bit off there. I spent some more time on it, but if that isn’t good enough be sure to point out what the problem is in more detail.
I didn’t mention this before, but I want hardcore and scrutinizing critique. My goal is for this thing to look as if it was SFIV official artwork. That’s a pretty lofty goal, and I want all the help I can get to achieve it. Keep in mind though, that it’s a WIP so some things aren’t there yet. You can be sure that I’m going to add in the crazy splatters and all the nice inking effects to the finished product. Right now I’m just trying to get the basic form/colors/painting down.
I think you can put a little more contrast between the right leg and left leg because right now, the legs kind of like like they’re blending together. I wouldn’t be able to tell if it wasn’t for the reference.
Off the top of my head, as for emulating the Street Fighter 4 style, the artists took a lot of liberty and were very painterly in some of the character’s clothing. I remember particularly being a fan of C. Viper’s tie on her character select image. I’m not sure if it applies to the official art though. Dealing with the outline on the clothing will be kind of tough since you have a white jacket on. I’d take a look at Ryu’s gi and make some choices from there.
You’re making great progress. I’ll be looking forward to how it turns out.
