Just to post the news, the Montebello Mall now has 3 MVC2 Machines at my request, couple other people’s request.
One machine has controllers kind of skewed, so the controllers aren’t perpendicular facing the tv, it’s kind of off to the side a bit… but other than that, it’s not too bad. Friendly environment.
I go pretty often, and I’ve been talking to some of the workers there, to tell them how to improve the place… and they started doing things slowly… tweaking the monitor, tweaking the sticks/buttons, adding a 3rd machine, etc. So here’s the deal…
They say if enough people start going, they will reduce the price from 50cent to 25cent.
and if enough people start going and things get rolling, they’ll put in a recorder on one of the machine to record matches, and one of the workers (Marco) volunteered to host/post them online if it ever does happen.
There’s always someone on MVC2, CVS2 is alot slower… that’s why they put in 3 MVC2 machines. I’ll put in a word for 3s. There’s alot of machines they’re thinking of replacing. I’m sure getting 3s is not a problem
50c for a game that’s 7 years old just isn’t right. I live down the street and wouldn’t play on principle alone. At least get them to make it 25c to continue. It’s a strange marvel community, a lot of people play but they use funky teams. No one really beastly there. I remember when I used to beat the regulars back in the day they’d tell me “Wait till potter comes!” lol
we had a new arcade open up in the SD area… great staff… great machines. good atmosphere. but everyone got tired of spending 50 cents per game. so everyone only went for the first couple weeks. and now no one goes. try not making it 50 cents too long for such an old game. 25 cents will eventually make more profit then if it were 50.
man, i used to go to that arcade back when it was Tile and when they had SF2 C.E. and then Marvel Super Heroes. i live one exit off the mall.
i’ll start going back if theres 3s.
Seriously though, there practically no point (no business sense) to having 3 mvc2 machines especially if theres no community to back it up already. What guarantee is there that you’ll have more people come play at the arcade?
They already have community that frequents the arcade, and people do consistently play both machines, even with the cost being .50 cents per play. Marvel is the money maker for the arcade, that is why they got a third marvel machine. I am sure they would attract even more players if they fix CvS2 and bring in 3S, but the cost would still be .50 cents. Shit, I believe Pac Man is .50 cents there.
The cost to operate an arcade and pay for the leased space is costly within a mall. If you take a visit throughout most Socal mall arcades, almost all games, doesn’t matter how old the game is, will cost .50 cents. They figure that the more the game cost, the more money they would get if people keep playing.
As far as comp goes, it’s just as Devil X said, no one is really beastly there, but the comp is good enough (and the players are wanting to learn) to get some good games in.
when they had that little pit area in front of gamestop which used to be babbages which used to be software etc. which used to be eb games where some upperclassmen of mine worked and gave me a bootleg final fantasy tactics that was half translated. i think the food places that were there from the beginning are hot dog on stick, burger king, sabarros…even arbys wasn’t og, with that fuckin touch screen bullshit, way ahead of its time.
long live tilt, home of neo geo magician lord, xmen, tmnt, gloc
lol, yea, there’s no “big name” top tier guys around, but there are some decent people. There’s a guy who claims to beat Combofiend consistently that plays there, I’ve beaten Justin Wong (although I only beat him once and he beat me … 11 times i think lol), Magnus shows up now and then, etc.
Yeah, the 50 cents suck, I’ve talked to couple of the guys they said it’s hard because it’s located at a mall. The cost is higher. However, the MORE people that shows up, then the big boss said he’ll feel better about changing it to 25 cents. As I understand it, as it stands right now, turning it to a quarter for even just a week, is a risk for him. The MVC2 machines make a substantial amount even in a week that covers the rent by the end of the month, so to lose out even a week would be a loss.
And I did explain to him, like any business, you need to take a risk… the only thing he said was, let’s see how 3 machines do, and if more people show up, he’ll take up the risk. So, i started to spread the word hoping more people would come, and in due time, change to a quarter…
and I think that’s the problem, the regulars (and I included), don’t play “as HARD” as we should… though that’s slowly changing since Magnus’s showed up etc.
yeah its called Arcade World i think near the pretzel place.
and yeah, i’d love to go to my own mall more often if they had games i liked. Marvel2 isn’t one of my games though. i’m surprized this place got SVC Chaos and but never had a 3s.
