I think it has more to do with them not knowing how to use physics at all. Remember Dead Rising 3 that went from Xbox One to PC, and if you unlocked the game from 30 FPS on PC, physics would go insane? They said it was optimized for 30 FPS, and that’s why it was screwy. :s What happened was they hard-coded the physics in, instead of using delta time for the physics on the world, so it was hard-coded for 30 FPS. Capcom is such amateurs at coding that it’s ridiculous.
I don’t have faith in their optimization skills, so hopefully they atleast upgrade SFV to the latest version of UE4 at some point soon. Let Epic do the underlying optimization for them through the engine. Maybe that alone can speed up load times a bit. They do need to go back and work on some of the clipping, I agree, it’s way too prevalent. The netcode definitely needs work also, asynchronous lag is not cool.
I never tried to “determine what discussions need to be had”, I expressed my opinion in saying this is a stupid fucking reason to make a thread when it could’ve easily just been a post and had the same result. I fail to see the point in a thread created purely for the sake of circle-jerking over the obvious point that clipping looks terrible in any game ever. Which it does. We all already know that.
We know it looks terrible. We also know a pile of dog shit smells bad, that doesn’t mean there needs to be an entire thread revolving around it.
Also you don’t tell me what to do. If I have to listen to your pointless bitching, you can listen to mine.
Haha. I was about to say. When I played the retail version I remember doing a double take and having to go look at my own beta footage still saved on my hard drive to make sure that wasn’t there before.
I disagree. Some people do care, me being one of them. If I pay premium for the game at release (plus season pass) I expect it to be polished both on the gameplay and graphical side.
I pre-ordered and played the “demo” of Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator and got zero graphical glitches, which is pretty impressive since that isn’t even the final version of the game.
Heck, even going back to the Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive days, I don’t remember seeing this many crappy physics related bugs, it just gives a bad impression of the overall game presentation in my opinion. The new KOF XIV still looks a bit like a PS3 game but even they got the physics right (pre-canned physics obviously, but they look much less janky that way).
Also, this is Street Fighter we are talking about here, not some underground doujin fighter (nothing wrong with those, but we can’t really compare the likes of Melty Blood to SF from a popularity point of view). There are no excuses for this.
All of this without mentioning the 30fps hyperactive NPCs. Just give us an option to remove those abominations Capcom, please.
Honestly, expecting a product to be polished out of the gate? It’s just not a realistic expectation to hold anymore. Ever since the Xbox 360 launched that standard went to hell, on console anyway, it has always been the case on PC. I too ordered Revelator, however, I didn’t play the last GG, but isn’t Revelator just a revision? Not really a good comparison IMO.
You could pretty much make the argument “who cares it’s just _______” with any problem in this game.
“Who cares about rage quitters? It’s just virtual points, they mean nothing in real life.”
“Who cares that it takes 10 minutes to match make? Go outside once in a while loser.”
“Who cares that it doesn’t save your fight request settings between sessions? It just takes 3 seconds to turn them back on.”
“Who cares that after every battle lounge match it shows your points adding 0 points every time, even though you can’t even earn points in battle lounge? It’s just 5 seconds after every round.”
I don’t think that releasing a polished product at launch is such an impossible feat, but maybe it’s because I play a lot of Nintendo games. Stuff like Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. came out working perfectly as intented (not mentioning online problems at release because that is a given for pretty much every game) while adding a lot more features as time went by.
I will concede that Revelator is a revision, but in that case I can take Xrd as an example, which got released without glitches and I imagine with a much smaller budget than Capcom had for Street Fighter V (pure conjecture on my part, but I would guess that Arc System Works doesn’t have the same amount of money to throw around as Capcom).
All in all, I think we are entitled to a better made game than the one we’ve got, especially after all the previous betas and what-not, which were supposed to bring up those issues to Capcom before release, and everyone noticed the wonky physics back then. Just the fact that they took almost a year to fix Chun-Li’s bodacious ta-tas glitch says how much attention they are giving to that subject.
Maybe they made the game in such a way that it would need a complete rework in order to make that stuff work properly, I have no idea. But whatever it is, it should have been solved before the game was out.
All your comparisons are terrible. It’s a 20 sec loading screen and cause you see clipping it’s breaking the game for you? Or the immersion of the reality that you think it’s Street fighter is real or something? Guess what fuckers, SF isn’t real. It’s a video game. There are way more important things that come way first than some loading screen clipping. Priorities people, priority.
Anyone saying that SFV isn’t polish has no idea what the word means cause the fighting engine is extremely polished. You know that thing you do 99% of the time when you play the game.
The hair in general is god awful in this game… guiles hair texture looks like shit, most of the casts hair texture looks like playdo or cheap plastic. All characters with long hair have rag dolll physics on their hair especially obvious with mika and nekali… looks so dumb when their big ponytails stand ever which way in the fight.
Too bad that “99% of the time when you play the game” is more like 15% of the time you are actually in the game, since match making is complete and utter shit in this game. You sit in menus way more than you actually play the game, unless you’re in a battle lounge. At least you can now do 2/3 (although it’s implemented so half assed, shocker) in ranked so you have less waiting around in ranked now. But oh wait, you still have the rage quit problem so ranked is kinda pointless to play anyways.
No one in here said the gameplay is bad. In fact I think most people think the gameplay is great in this game, even with all of the bitching.
I also can’t think of 1 other game that I purchased this gen (or last gen) that has been so half assed as this one as far as the full package goes.
Maybe you do. I don’t, learn to set a FT3 or FT5. I’m not even looking at the character screen once it’s loading.
Now the crying over ragequitters, as if SFV is the first fighting game to ever have this problem.
All this bitching over things that can be avoided. Trade your copy in, no one forced you to buy the game.
I get what you say, but i don’t get the Champion of Mediocrity mindset
Hair clipping is stuff for the graphic team, aka not the same peoples that have to work on other stuff you’re speaking about
They launched, they bombed, they have to show to give fucks about the audience
If audience ask for months to fix that graphic stuff, smart move should be tell graphic guys to stop a second whatever they’re doing and fix said stuff that make the game look rushed
Fix clipping
Fix weird overlapping on a KOed opponent
MAYBE even fix trash stuff like Alex and Ken faces
MAYBE remove some useless 30fps indian from india stage
It will be a good start
It’s like for DLC trailers, they did one for Guile in reasonable times just because the lack of an Alex one gave them shitstorm feedback… when was an obvious marketing move to do without peoples pushing them
The whole deal with it attitude already costed them millions
They had all the hype of the world behind the game and wasted it
It is a silly eyesore that should have never made it past beta. I mean shit I remember watching the SFV debut and saying oh Birdie’s necklace clips through his chain but that’ll be fixed it’s a beta. Nope.
That said. Priorities. Input lag, Hurt boxes, then we can talk about fixing some visual bugs.
Guile has the only hair that’s intended to behave the way it should. But I don’t really get Laura’s premium costume and the long strand of hair? That looked ridiculous does anybody have a clue what that’s all about?
