Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

The case is too short for any Sanwa or Seimitsu stick, apparently. I’d do what earlyberd suggested and buy some JLF Microswitches to replace the HORI switches with. I couldn’t give you an answe about the octogate. I wouldn’t use one, regardless.

how many microswitches would be needed?

Four.

Okay…

I’ve got a pretty good idea of what I want to do with the stick now. I want to try out Cherry Switches (since 4 will only cost me $5.) Will they fit in without any alteration needing to be done? I also want to slap on a nice spring for a little added stiffness so that the stick will return to neutral faster/can perform moves faster. What spring would be reccomended? Would the LS-32 spring fit on the stock HORI?

sweet got just finished ordering up 6x light blue buttons sanwa, 2x clear seimitsu(artworking), 4 switches, light blue 35MM bubbletop, 4 switches. the mod will start once i get my parts. I’m doing this sick shin blanka artwork

Mixing and matching Sanwa and Seimitsu, eh?

Make sure you got the right switches.

I have everything in my cart atm since I haven’t decided on my final artwork and if I’m going to go full seimitsu clear buttons to put artwork in or not. What switches did you order and are they for the stock happ stick?

I didn’t order any switches yet. The switches I’m planning on ordering are Cherry switches:

This is the JLF switch:

Most micro switches fit a standard size, and if the Cherry Switches are designed to replace JLF switches, that would mean they fit that standard size, so they should fit in the Hori stick without any extra modification.

For the spring, the Hori stick seems to use a standard spring diameter like what’s found in a JLF and LS-32 as well, so a LS-32 spring should fit. Though my first suggestion would be to try the JLF spring mod suggested in the following thread.

Can anyone help me with this? I’ve been trying with my dremel but it takes a long time to make it smooth. Any tips? Thanks

Try a more abrasive tip? Generally if you’re having trouble grinding down plastic, the grinding tip is either in need of replacement, or you’re using the wrong tip.

All right… I have my FS3 and I’m now ordering the following parts to mod it…

6x Blue Seimitsu PS-14-KN 30mm Buttons
2x White Seimitsu PS-14-KN 30mm Buttons
1x White Seimitsu LB-39 Balltop
1x Seimitsu LS-32 Spring
?x Quick disconnects
4x Cherry Microswitches

How many quick disconnects do I need? What sizes? I need a precise amount.

Also, what type of wire and solder will I need?

16 QDs for the buttons, 22 gauge stranded wire

First custom stick

This is my first custom stick, this thread really helped me a lot.
Seimitsu PS-14-GN buttons and Seimitsu LS-33 stick

I still need to buy a soldering iron and get some custom art work!

looks good; i can’t wait for my stuff to arrive in the mail so I can post pics of it

How’s the LS-33 Mounted?

If you are referring to my stick, here’s the guide :razzy:

ok question that i haven’t found a solid answer to or good pic in this thread

my wires are going to be fairly short with QDs to the buttons. with the wires being short will the PCB stay fairly stationary and avoid touching the bottom plate or should I get a internal mounting stand to keep it from touching the bottom. pics would be great, but I’m figuring with short wires it’ll stay close to the same spot its at before modding just “loosish” since the buttons will be wires w/ QDs instead of directly soldering to PCB

It’s generally not a problem if the PCB does touch the bottom plate as long as there are no exposed contacts that could touch the metal and short it out. Personally I just covered the areas with electrical tape to prevent shorts, and secured the PCB’s to the plastic shell with some hot glue. I’ve had plenty of friends bang on my stick during gameplay, and never had any issues with the PCB’s shorting out.

All right, folks… I’ll be modding my FS3 tonight after I watch Heroes. I’ll update with pics and stuff when I can.

These are 33.99 at Amazon right now. http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Fighting-Stick-3-Playstation/dp/B000MWE3BI/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1257227910&sr=8-5
