Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

w00t - just received my Cthulhu PS3 board! Time to fix up my FS3!

EDIT: So i’m trying to rewire the Start, Select, Home buttons to my new Cthulhu PS3 board in my Hori FS3, but not sure which wire is which on the other PCB - does anyone know which wire is which? Cheers.

You only have to ground your start, select home button like any other buttons then wire the second wire of each button to their respective emplacement on the cthulu board. Yon dont need the other pcb

@Zordrack: when I was refering to the PCB, I meant the mini-PCB that lies underneath the row of top buttons (start/turbo/home/etc)…I know that I don’t need the main PCB from the FS3 anymore (I threw it out already)… Anyways, I got it all wired up and here are some shots. Keep in mind it’s my first ever time dremeling/soldering/stick&button modding so it’s not that great or clean…

Ouside - Closer shot

After looking around in this thread for a month and learning alot too. I finally finished my first modded HFS3. I made it for my brother and It works perfectly and My Brother loves it. I wish I had a better camera though. Thanks to all you guys on this thread that made this possible.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Hori Fighting Stick 3 with all Seimitsu parts. LS-32-01, Bat top, and Snap-in buttons. ( Everything that looks orange is actually red).

Lol…are those skateboard bearings in there? looks like bones reds. that looks good though dude.

Thanks and yeah they are, LOL. Had a bunch laying around and put four in each hole with a rubber stopper and some super glue. It might look a little funny but it gave it alot of extra weight. To tell you the truth it feels heavier than my SE stick. Oh and by the way happy birthday.

How did you get that mgs4 art on there? Custom art on these sticks still confuses me.

I had some one on here create it for me with the HFS3 template and he sent it to me. I went to staples and got it printed out on glossy paper and got it lami-labeled there.

huey where did you buy the toodles pcb board?lizarddlick’s website is closed

hello all fs3 modders!

so i am guessing most if not all people have modded the buttons on thier fs3. what i wanted to know is if anyone is willing to sell me the stock hori buttons they don’t require anymore. i only really want the red and the two blacks. pm me with a price if you are willing to sell. btw, i live in london uk, but am willing to pay the postage from abroad if needs be.

thanks in advance!

hi battle, lucky i saw your post before dumping those buttons into the bin.PM me to discuss the price;)

hi guys,

i finally got around to modding my fight stick.

it’s my first time soldering…i messed up two of the solder points for the joystick, and had to solder to the traces, which worked.

but now all the top row buttons don’t work, they were working a few seconds ago, all the top ones…if i played sf4 it would be all the punches

did i mess up on the grounding? or is it nearer the chip where i messed up

help

Hey nice work on the stick Xenon! I love the colour scheme. Are the red buttons glowing or is that just some lighting effect going on? LOL.

@Mirana: I purchased mine directly from Toodles here on SRK. Sent him a PM asking if he had stock and if I could order one, he said yep np, I sent PayPal order through and he sent it to me and I received it here in Australia, Melbourne in LESS THAN A WEEK! Was fast as! I think he’s out of stock at the moment with PS3/PC boards, but I’m sure he still has some MC boards left.

Thanks. No there not glowing, LOL. Just a crappy pic. when i get my good camera back i will post better pics.

Hah. Would be cool if they were actually glowing. But nice pic nonetheless :stuck_out_tongue:

Just started my first mod last night. Got the LS-33 Mounted properly and everything desoldered. Currently connecting the wires for the directions to the stick, then I’m gonna do the buttons and finish my art today at work and get it printed afterwards. Not sure how clean my wiring will look when I’m done  for the stick at least haha.

thx huey. I am from Melbourne too:)

@raggy i have the same problem but i fixed it.A picture of your mod would be helpful. Make sure your pcb not touching the bottom cover of your hori case

parts finally arrived from akihabara shop yesterday!:

Button tabs (dremel/sand these off):

Dremeled the tabs off, some of the grinded down stuff from the tabs got stuck in the leftover adhesive from the sticker. I’ll clean this surface completely before I apply the art later:

Got it mounted, a few scratches from when the dremel went crazy:

I’ll post more pics when I finish but hopefully this helps someone out. Pensuke’s LS-33 mounting pics on page 31 helped out lot, also thanks to Shoo

Thats it for now. I’ll probably post a pic of my template too before I go print it.

What is the life span of a Sanwa JLF-P5 ACTUATOR. I’m wondering if I should order rechange part for my fightstick like Sanwa JLF-SP Spring and Sanwa TP-MA Replacement PCB Switch Assembly or sanwa pushbutton.

I use my stick everyday

Template I made from a Vega pencil sketch by Edwin Huang:
