Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

Quick question: I was originally going to just swap out the switches with some happ ones and maybe some joystick spring. However the mod with the Seimitsu LS-33 doesn’t look too difficult. How well has the stick handled abuse? Any concern with the plastic the stick is mounted on breaking?

I imagine I’d see a bigger difference swapping out for the Seimitsu LS-33 than just swapping some switches and springs.

Man does anyone know where to get those damn quick connects .110". I have checked all my local hardware stores and can’t find the damn things anywhere.

So which ones should I use in regards to QDs?

none of em unfortunatly

get them from here around April i guess. (Scroll all the way down)

or just do without them for now

I guess I might try Orchard Supply or Home Depot.

I bought 0.110 QDs off of ebay, but the ones I used in those pictures are the 18-22 AWG 0.187 ones

They’re a little large, but they work

So far, there doesn’t seem to be any problems at all. I haven’t subjected it to very much abuse because I haven’t played very much though. I imagine that it would at least take as much abuse as the stock Hori stick would. I remember seeing a picture of a stock stick coming off from the plastic through heavy abuse… I don’t know how much it would take, but it should be at least a long time if you take good care of it.

I was just wondering, is it possible to change the button layout of the hori FS3 without soldering or anything?

Well, to change the button layout you’d need a new panel. So yeah it’s possible to change the layout; Just download one of the templates and move the buttons round to how you want them, then just get it fabricated or do it yourself.

As for doing it without soldering… A fair few sticks shown in this thread have used QD’s to avoid soldering, but i’m unsure as to whether or not the whole stick can be done using QD’s.

Sorry, but im kind of new to this. Is there any guide or anyone that could show me how to change button layout?

Do you mean you just want to re-map the buttons? It would still take soldering. Actually, almost any work will require soldering, as the PCB is soldered directly to the buttons.

Finally finished mounting my LS-33. Decided to mount it on the plastic like the one before in this thread.

Everything feels so light and sensitive. I love it!

Oooh very nice mod! I’m glad to see that someone was able to mod it the way I did.

Let me know how it goes in the long run. I haven’t been able to put my FS3 to the test yet. I hope that our plastic mounts last because I suddenly remember someone killing their stock Hori stick which is mounted to the plastic. x_x

Yes I would like to remap it.

Hey, thanks for the tip!
My plastic mounts is in even worse condition.
When I was trying to countersink the bottom right hole, my drill went through all the way, making it unusable.:xeye:

So at this moment my stick is only holding to 3 bolts instead of four.
No problem so far though. Have been using it for almost a week.
It’s really sensitive with LS-33 and Sanwa buttons. Don’t need to use much force to use the stick. Hopefully that also mean my mount will last.

I also have drilled the top plate, in case the plastic mount fails.

I really need to find better tools for this kind of job.

Looking for advise on my mod.

When I go to print this off, should I have the brownish border disabled, or do I cut that off before I apply it to the stick? I know I am supposed to disable the buttons, but I’m just not sure about that border. I am using a Hori Fighting Stick 3 template I downloaded from here. Resolution is 3324x1772.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions to spruce it up, I am all ears! (button and joystick colours are temporary, although I would like different colours for low, medium and fierce attacks)

it looks good dude, im excited to see it all finished up. I haven’t printed mine yet, which is fucked up cause i made the template, lol, so im not sure about whether you should disable the border or not. im thinking its really up to you cause either way it’ll be printed on rectangular paper i’m sure so it’ll have to be cut, right?

here’s an idea I had for mine.

Thanks for the info. Well, I already ordered the parts from Akihabara so I guess I’m committed either way. On the microswitches for the joystick, which one do you hook up to ground or does it not matter? I haven’t had much luck finding a pinout for the switch.

This is going to be my first attempt at modding with some help from a friend. Can’t wait for the parts to come in.

if its without the micropcb on the joystick, it doesn’t matter. your just trying to compete the circuit.

for anyone wondering about the template, just print a copy with your printer, cut out the holes and lay it out and see for yourself.

No, when it comes to microswitches, it usually doesn’t matter which you side you attach to ground or signal. The microswitches for the LS-33 look a LOT like the stock Hori stick so it’s not really that hard to figure out at all.
