Hi everyone, first time poster here. I was pointed in this direction because I decided that I want to mod my fightstick. I have a PS3 HORI Arcade pro 3, I found out that it works with mortal kombat on PS4 so I figure I’m going to be getting a lot of use out of it for the foreseeable future. I have looked for guides about doing this and I can only really find videos on youtube. So when I’m doing a project like this I hate Youtube, a written guide (to me) is much more helpful because I don’t have to do all that jumping back and forth in a video. So anyway, if someone could point me to a written guide that would be great, or just post here. I’ve decided I want to get some Blue Translucent buttons Trade out the stick, or atleast the ball, and finally put some new artwork on it. I have hear mention of Sanwa buttons or something? Anyway for the art I would ideally have Kitana from MKX on a white background. As said before I have never done something like this, but I’m confident in my tech skills seeing as I’m a physicist. Anyway, thanks in advance for the answers.
I’m not sure you read my post. I specifically came here because I don’t want to watch a video. Or rather, I’d like a list of the stuff I need to buy. Dimensions of the buttons, places for the plexi glass that kind of thing. I’m sure the videos will be helpful for actually installing this stuff, but I need to start looking around to buy this, and I really don’t want to watch the videos waiting for a list of what I need to buy.
Guides are in the stickies at the top of the page, here is the thread:
Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
Anyways, different people have different learning styles.
There no real guide for this as after you get into it, you see how self explanatory everything is. Especially for someone who claims to be a physicist.
HORI REAL ARCADE PRO 3 or what I just going to refer to it as just the Hrap 3 for the rest of the thread.
What buttons you need? The main Buttons are 30mm Japanese style buttons, start and select are 24mm buttons.
Sanwa? Sanwa is a brand of arcade parts. Another big brand is Seimitsu, they are like the Coca-Cola and Pepsi of the Arcade parts world.
There no real right or wrong choice here.
Sanwa buttons tend to have a lighter touch than Seimitsu buttons, some people like to have a feather touch, while others don’t want their buttons to be pressed that easily.
The Ball top just unscrews off, there is a slot on the bottom of the joystick lever (inside the controller) that fits a flat head screw driver.
As this is your first project, if there nothing you find wrong about the joystick, I suggest you keep it as is. Also for some reason its a pain to install a Seimitsu joystick in the Hrap 3, but not impossible.
You can get art printed at most print shops like Kinkos, but you will want a plexy glass cover or laminate.
Art’s Hobbies sells plexy covers for various sticks made to order as well as pre-cut art for those sticks.

The one thing you have to know about the Hrap 3 is that you have to unscrew the bottom panel first to get to the nuts that bolt the top panel on.
Art Hobbies also have a top loader kit, so the next time you want to get into your stick you can just undo the screws on top.
I do suggest reading slagcoin.com , its considered required reading here, and would cover more than you need for your project.
The site is a bit out of date now with the PS4 and Xbox One here but none of the basics have changed.
I also recommend using the Intro thread, everything you need would be linked there.
