Modding a Mayflash stick (finished! 1/18/2009)

So I was planning on dual-pcb modding my Mayflash but I can’t seem to find a guide anywhere. There are guides on how to mod it up with new buttons and joystick but I can’t find a dual pcb mod.

Also, I was trying to figure out how exactly to be sure if my Mayflash is common ground or not, what date would it say on my pcb if it was NOT a common ground?

Thanks.

does anyone know the button layout for the 2009 pcb? I’m going to resolder it because i have no X button (6 button layout :p)

I have an unmodded mayflash and my buttons are dying on me- is modding the stick going to fix it (I assume so, as the buttons are legendarily shitty), or is this a PCB problem?

@TS The pcb is most likely fine, the buttons are garbage and they fail consistently. You can also try to clean the contact point for the button if you really need to push the life of the stock parts.

@mazelol haven’t seen a 09 pcb close enough to be certain but i’m guessing they are labeled like the earlier pcb (07 i think) which means

BU would be triangle
BR would be O
BL would be square
BD would be X

If your PCB has a manufacture date in 2009, you cannot dual mod since it isn’t a common ground PCB.

It’s a couple pages back. But I’m such a nice guy, I got it for you. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/232/521270694_81e5ac808e.jpg?v=0

The buttons on the Mayflash are giant controller buttons. They don’t even have a switch. Modding will definitely fix this problem.

This makes me think, will Happ comp buttons fit or is the Mayflash’s base not big enough for them?

I haven’t read every post but I have read through most and this isn’t the first stick I’ll be modding, so I’m not a total noob at least.

I saw a paint diagram of the button layout but it wasn’t labeled. Looking at the diagram and crossrefrencing it with my own stick, I THINK I’ve got everything figured out and labeled as such. I would just like confirmation that all this is correct.

Thanks.

I haven’t checked out this thread in a while so I’m going to go ahead and answer some lingering questions.

I don’t think so, considering that the case isn’t deeper than the Madcatz SE/TE which requires you to cut the frame inside for Happ buttons to fit.

Based on your button layout I’m going to assume that your Mayflash has the 2009 non-common ground PCB, which means you’re going to have to cut the ground traces on the joystick PCB for it to work. The wiring should look like this:

Hey guys, thanks for all the help this thread has provided in modding my Mayflash. I now am using a JLF undermounted and the six Hori 28mm buttons that came with my EX2 before I modded that to full 30mm sanwa buttons. The next step for me is to get some custom art, but I can’t decide what I should use or know any guidelines. Is there a thread or a web source for custom arcade stick art that you guys could recommend? Thanks.

Here is the setup I used when I modded a Mayflash (as far as wiring diagram) Ignore the Hori buttons used for testing

The numbers indicate the numbers on the stick that are marked by default:

First of all, you will need this Mayflash template at 300 dpi: http://m.chupon.free.fr/elements/images/080509_blueprint_stick_full.png

Next, if you need ideas for art look through this thread: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=175293

Finally you’ll need Photoshop or Gimp to open and edit the PSD files so that they fit the Mayflash template. Remember to print it at 300 dpi.

does anyone know if someone offers a service to mod the mayflash sticks??? i have a brand new one, i will buy the sanwa parts and pay for shipping and labor. i just don’t have the time, not to mention all of my tools were stolen during a move to my new house. fucking blows. i just finished my hori button placement and stick artwork like 3 weeks before the move and it was stolen as well, the cops cought the scrub who stole them but he had hocked them allready, so i had to buy a new 110 hori again.

took my frustration out on a dude in xbox live sf4. crossover perfection.

SOMEONE HELP PLEASE.

ps. march 31st is the the day the earth will stand still. the bushin ninja appears to take sucka ass scrubs to the grave.

Sorry to hear about your house getting robbed, that must have fucking suck to have to deal with.

The only mod service that I know of for Mayflash sticks is by Bakashi from the Gameaxis.com forums but he lives in Singapore. You should check it out, he does plexi and artwork too: http://forums.gameaxis.com/showthread.php?t=1528637

is there anyone here from the illinois or around it able to mod a mayflash stick for me? i will order the parts and such i just need to know if anyone stays in my area to do it, i stay on the north side of chicago

Question to all Mayflash users who play SFIV. I’ve heard that this stick has issues when recognizing the control scheme for the game, and that you can’t set the button layout via the in-game options. How did you deal with this issue?

I haven’t noticed any lag. However, the button layout is god awful. It’ll take a day and a half to get your desired settings.

I just added some weights to my Mayflash stick with taped up rolls of pennies seen here:

You really shouldn’t get a mayflash unless you plan to mod it, in which case the button layout can be changed to your desire. That being said the new mayflash sticks have a decent ps3 and ps2 layout it was only the old ones that had a bad ps3 layout.

can anyone mod mine? cause by itself the stick kinda sux

this stick doesnt work on some games, the buttons word but no directional imputs
