All the resources you need mod the Mayflash are in the thread. It’s a bit of wading but it’s all here.
brokenhalo’s thread on the shmups board explains the basic modding process well. It’s in the first post of this thread.

so you’re willing to rehash the knowledge that you gained reading through these forums if people will pay you for it?
I suggest working on your reading comprehension. I said nothing of charging people for my information. It’s no small task to write a thorough and easily understood guide, and I’m a busy person. If people offered up a few bucks, it would add motivation to get the guide done sooner.
Moreover, I have done things with the mod that nobody else has.
But hey… if your guide is good enough that people aren’t left with questions… then far be it from me to do work that nobody will use. Then again… seems there have been a lot of questions, indicating an insufficient guide, so how about shutting up and accepting that I do have something to bring to the table?
This attitude… it does not flatter you.
There is just cause for a very detailed, very specific guide for dual-modding the Mayflash. It’s cheap, and I’m pretty sure everyone here agrees that it’s a good platform to work off of. Your guide was and is useful; nobody will deny that, but it has room for improvement, and it says nothing for dual-modding.
On a side note, I’m a professional student… I make very strong use of citation. If I put together a guide, my documentation would clearly point to where I got my starts.
Then again, as I was getting at, if a comprehensive guide is going to net me more flak than actually help people with their own mods, I won’t be doing it. Based on the feedback I’ve gotten so far, it looks like I won’t be writing a guide. Good job; you’re winning.
you weren’t the first person to mod the mayflash, neither was i. you weren’t the first person to dual mod an arcade stick either. all the information to accomplish this task is freely available to anyone who wants to look over this site. if you are going to write a guide for something, go right ahead. that’s the spirit of this site. just don’t expect monetary compensation for it. none of the other posters did.
and my reading comprehension is fine. the fact that you would even mention that people should send you money to make it worth your time can only be interpreted in one way.
this attitude…it does not flatter you.
 I see what you did there.
This conversation won’t go anywhere beneficial it seems, so may I simply rescind my comment about money? My intent was to say that offers of small donations could get the guide writing process higher on my priority list. No more. No less. But to whatever extent possible, I’d like to rescind the comment altogether. Yeah, I’m busy and strapped for cash, but the reputation your initial response could give me is not a reputation that I want or need.
Seems to me that my former post was needlessly combative, so for that I apologize.
And I agree that all of this information is available, and I was going to fix my post to reflect that before you responded, but you were too damned quick. As you and FreezerB both said, that information is available, but my goal would to be to create a guide that starts from a point of knowing nothing about modding (since there are many people who make the Mayflash their first project… and many of the questions here are about very basic things). The guide would then give detailed information, step-by-step, for dual-modding with no need for information outside of that guide. And yes… the origins of any specific information used in the guide would be credited to its origin as it should be.
So. Trying this again, perhaps?
Is there demand for a detailed guide, that requires no real outside understanding of modding, for dual-modding a Mayflash stick?
apology accepted. we’re all friends here.
and i’d love to see your mayflash dual-mod guide. every bit of information put forward helps the community grow stronger.
A guide/worklog is always beneficial. Can’t speak for others if there’s a demand but I would assume so. It’s a cheap stick with tons of potential.
I think the modding process only took around $50 whereas the dual PCB mod took me about $70. Definitely a friendly mod. It’s like…a gateway mod.
Wow,
I didn’t know that the thread exclusively for modding mayflash existed…
If I knew it earlier, I’d read it before I mod mine…
Anyway, here’s mine:

I didn’t use the PCB coz I want the stick to be wireless…and used sixaxis + axisdapter instead…
I guess I have an extra common ground PCB now
and I have to agree…Mayflash is pretty easy to mod…would love to mod another one if my budget permits
Might as well put my daughter’s Mayflash in this too. I was thinking putting a plexi ontop but the lami-label looks decent enough, despite it being misaligned…
I have a quick question regarding playing Ps2 games on the ps3 and using this controller. I know it doesn’t work and I’ve confirmed this myself but does anyone know if there is a way this could work, maybe buying a ps2 - ps3 converter and plugging that into the ps3?
Hopefully I don’t have to buy another PCB or something from Lizardlick and wait 4 months lol
<-- FreezerB’s roommate.
The PCB in the Mayflash is PS2/3 native, just plug it into the PS3 using USB. The button mappings are a bit weird, but it works fine.
The clarify for the JLW mod - there’s no way to mount this stick in the Mayflash without screwing in through the top. You need to dremel/whatever the inside mounting bracket and screw holes flush with the top of the case, drill 2 (or 4) screw holes in the top and countersink them. The stock washer for the JLW will completely cover the screw heads and holes so no worries about them looking ugly or slicing up your knuckles if you hold the stick in that style.
There are some potential downfalls of the JLW in this, though they are more of a hassle than a problem. If you flatten the existing brackets your stick will stand quite high (3 CM as opposed to the usual 2-2.5), this is surprisingly noticeable as can be seen on the red and black Mayflash FreezerB linked (which is mine). The other option is to install a mounting block/bracket whatever you want to call it over the existing mount, this could be a piece of MDF or wood. The issue with this is that the stock screws are too short to catch into the stick so you’ll need to measure and buy new ones
Hey, Gillette. Bored at work, eh?
Just wondering, what did you use to paint the case? If you used Krylon Plastics, how’d you get it to a matte finish?
For you guys that drill holes for the 24mm buttons on the side of the mayflash. All i need is a drill and a 24mm hole saw? Is there any tricks to drilling the hole or is it as straight forward as it sounds(which i bet it is)? I just wanna make sure before i buy the stuff and drill my next box.
Thanks
We ended up doing any holes with a 1/4" drill bit and a dremel, lol. The plastic is very very soft, a normal hole saw should be fine, just make sure you drill from the outside in so you don’t get jaggies along the outside.
Alright. So. I’m in my last week of the term prior to finals. Two weeks from now (unless if I magically get a job demanding all of my waking time between now and then), I’m gonna start working on my dual-mod guide.
Filing the holes rather than using a drill is less error-prone, I found. Also, the dremel allows to work fast without damaging the case should a mistake occur (drilling too large if the drill bit is moving, no good).
God yes Kendrik, please put up a guide, I’m putting off modding my mayflash because I’m just not confident enough to tackle it myself. I have a link to a guide but it’s translated through google from French. So, yes, I would love a standard guide. Thank you.
Yeah i used Krylon Plastic fusion from Walmart. Painted it & paint started to peel so i sanded it, then painted it again. Dont know but it turned out pretty good.
Does anyone have a full list of converters that works on this Mayflash stick?
So far the ones I’ve tried. (all using PS2 connection)
Gamecube/Wii
Mayflash Cube Joybox Pro (works)
EMS Magic Path II (doesn’t work)
Dreamcast
Innovation Dream Connection II (doesn’t work)
Xbox 1
Magic Box (doesn’t work)
PC (well, just for testing)
Mayflash Super Joy Box 3 Pro (works)
Seems that the Mayflash products work. Wondering if anyone has tried using other converters, mainly for the Dreamcast and Xbox.
My new stick btw, modded by Bakashi. All Seimitsu (LS-32).
Man that template looks spot on! Is that the one linked earlier in this thread?
If not, do you have a link for that template or anything?
