I’m pretty new to the forums and sticks in general so bear with me. I have a tekken 5 arcade stick and i was thinking of modding it (buttons are getting mushy and i cant HCF for crap with a square restrictor). When i started looking up mods for it, turns out tekken 5 kind of sucked with moddability. I know a local seller who’s selling a hori soul calibur II ps2 stick. How does that fair in terms of moddability compared to the tekken? The button layout looks kind of whack but i kind of want better buttons and i need to do something about this restrictor =/ I’m thinking of ebaying the tekken. Thoughts? suggestions? I noticed it was higher on the stick rankings so i figured maybe it had something to do with the interchangeable parts.
Hori Tekken 5 sticks are actually not that bad to mod if you have the tools. If you’re set on selling it, someone will snatch it up in the trading forums.
lol, i am sort of lacking the tools. Basing my info off this http://namakoteam.com/news.php?id=58 thats why im looking into something thats either amazing stock or solderlessly moddable. I was trying to see if i could take the restrictor out of the tekken stick and it didn’t look too difficult to figure out when i opened it up. However, id rather not fiddle with it and risk breaking it.
Modding the Tekken 5 is actually fairly easy.
Get snap ins and a JLF
You have to keep the screws that screw in the original arcade stick, and you have to drill some holes in the restrictor plate of the JLF (none of this affects performance).
You also have to sand down the tabs that held the Hori buttons in place, which you can do with any file (<$5 at a hardware place) or dremel if you have one.
Also, the PCB is very easy to wire to
Changing the restrictor on the Tekken stick is… difficult, because you wont be able to buy a restrictor plate anywhere else.
If you decide to go through with it, you can post your own questions here and i’ll help answer them (along with the rest of tech talk probably)
What?
Just buy a custom faceplate from vocalninja for the T5 Stick, and you’re set. Just plug the stuff in.
Ahhh… I remember that. Namco assured me that the stick bundled with the game was going to be an HRAP. I took their word, shouldn’t have lol. I didn’t mean to be misleading. I just tried to spread the word that a stick was coming out with the game!
The SC2 stick is a lot harder to sanwa mod than a T5 stick.
Really? harder to mod? I guess ill stick with the t5 stick for now. Maybe i’ll hold out for an HRAP2 for christmas then. Rather than buying all the tools and risk breaking the t5, ill probably be just happy with a stock HRAP if it’s as good as everyone says. How much would a lightly used T5 stick sell for? I’ve only had it since mid november and its seen about moderate use since then. Lol, just need some advice before i bring myself over to the trading board and getting laughed at for charging too much.
or you could pay one of us to mod the t5 stick with full sanwa, which will probably be a few bucks cheaper than a hrap +paying for the sanwa button mod.
Haha, I thought I posted this answer here yesterday. Turns out I put it in the wrong thread so great job to me. It’s the thought that counts anyway… right?
BUMP! I have an unused SC2 hori, and I want to mod it. When you say it’s hard to mod how hard do you mean?
This is how it looks on the inside
Hard as in you can’t even fit an Seimitsu LS32 in it without modding the case. A Sanwa JLF can’t be mounted at the proper height at all.
Damn:shake:
I guess I should just be thankful as long as it’s working well.
Thanks anyway…
Double bump.
I wonder if you can fit Omron switches and a Sanwa gate in it through, it could come close enough. Cherry switches can fit in the EX2 so it may be worth a shot.
Sanwa buttons may fit if you bend the prongs.
Same Joystick as HORI Fighting Stick EX2.
So using OMRON Microswitch and Sanwa Restrictor Gate works.
Parts in the Soulcalibur II Stick same as Namco Arcade Stick.
Buttons have TKC Microswitches, which is a brand Seimitsu use.
