Modchipman?

Sorry for asking a question that may seem like a plug. But is modchipman still in business? I ordered a jlf, some seimitsu buttons and a few qd’s for a stick i’m working on but it’s been like 35-40 hours, the orders still “pending charge”. I put in a help desk ticket 16+ hours ago with no reponse and no one’s picking up the phones.

Anyone else who orders from there having similar problems?

yes it took me like three weeks and two phone calls to get my stuff shipped, i had the same problem

Oh, that’s not good news at all. Last time I ordered from them (ages ago), they were rather snappy. Kinda discouraging to spend $75 and have the staff more or less ignore you. I’ve called them multiple times, at the very least deducting the money from my account so I know that they’re aware of my order would be appreciated. I’m fine with waiting for it to ship, but no confirmation that they’ve even bothered looking at it since I ordered it on the 1st is a bit irritated. Thanks for the reply, hopefully it doesn’t take three weeks though.

Wow, i placed several orders from them last spring/summer and got them very fast. Back when Lizard Lick was not taking orders.

Yeah, that’s around the same time i placed last one, 4/23/2009 to be exact and was impressed with the speedy processing/shipping. This time around isn’t the same, still pending charges, had a help desk ticket open for 21 hours now, called multiple times with now response so I’m a bit disappointed, anyone know some other good US based sites that stock Sanwa/Seimitsu, in case this doesn’t get resolved soon?

Lizard Lick, Gamingnow.net, & cipher12.com .Or (if you meet the requirements to use it )SRK’s trading outlet is a good place to find parts.

Gamingnow seems to be nice, hadn’t heard of them before. Thanks.

I have had only good transactions with all of them. What exactly are you looking to buy? Cipher12 has the best deals on sanwa & seimitsu buttons and his shipping is VERY reasonable.

This last order at modchipman was 8 Yellow Seimitsu PS-14-KN’s, a Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT, a yellow bubble top, and a bunch of QD’s for a Mayflash i’m modding (making it pikachu themed, hence all the yellow.)

It’s only the second stick I’ve built, the first was made from one of the customcade boxes modchipman was selling, all sanwa stuff that time around, around, painted the box white, pink buttons and balltop with Amy Rose art under the plexi. That one’s still lacking a pcb, but i’m considering getting a second playstation 2 compatible mayflash and sticking the pcb from that in it.

Right now, the place to buy from is lizardlick.com. Back when they were behind on orders, they weren’t so hot. But now, they ship same or next day priority so you get your stuff quick.

I’d cancel my order or something if I had the option to and just reorder from lizardlick or gamingnow but I can’t even do that without contacting them, which is seeming nigh impossible… next order is definitely going to be from somewhere else by the looks of it though. Glanced back through my phone history, called them EIGHT times today, sat on hold music til it went to a machine saying that they were either serving others/away from their desk every time. Help desk tickets been out for 23 hours now without a response. Hate to be so persistent but it should say something that even that isn’t producing results. I’d even appreciate a form letter saying “we’re working on it” or something or the sort.

i think there is a modchipman thread, perhaps you could speak with him there?

Oh, I wasn’t aware the owner had an account here, found the thread though after a bit of searching. Thanks

EDIT: Posted my problem there, the last 2 - 3 pages of that thread don’t look promising at all. with kfree’s last activity back in January, and those pages filled with nothing but complaints on weeks or months without response or refund. :S Guess I’m going to hope for the best since it’s not been that long yet, but things definitely aren’t looking up.

typically its just 1 guy that works the store from what I’ve seen. He’s doing all the repairs for 360’s, PS3’s, modding joysticks, selling parts, etc… He’s been real helpful to me when I walked in to buy stuff.

You’d also have to consider the fact that possibly they’re out of stock and having trouble with their distribution in getting more items in stock.

thats no excuse , ive only ordered from chad at lizard lick and always been able to contact him one way or another, he has returned my calls always and answered all my questions back when modding was new to me. orders took no more then a week from the time i placed it to the time i received it. www.lizardlick.com

Modchipman is usually good. I contact Kfree for special needs and he would do it for me. Check IRC to see if he’d respond to you.

and if you remember there was also a time when lizardlick couldn’t handle the rush and ended up closing its doors to all new orders for weeks at a time. You had people waiting several months for their items to come in. Eventually they got caught up (they also have a larger crew working than MCM does). If what was said is true in the other topic then apparently they’re behind a few months. Supply and demand finally got back to them and now they’re struggling to get out. Also figure that MCM does offer more services than lizardlick does. Lizardlick doesn’t mod controllers, fix consoles, make joystick shells for your custom mods. MCM does, and they have a smaller work force than Lizardlick does. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that much out.

I’m not asking for quicker service, I realize that modchipman is only one guy (kfree), So I’m not asking for the same speed you’d get from something like newegg/amazon when ordering other products. Nor did I ever mention not understanding them getting behind, or going out of stock (however, everything I listed was marked “in stock”), the only thing I asked for was a simple reply back to understand why it’s taking so long, which I’ve still not recieved.

Yes, kfree offers MANY more services than lizardlick, but if he’s truly having to deal with a “rush” then he, like anyone else who’s operated a business should know, that there should be some sort of notification to customers letting them be aware that he’s behind and if it gets unbearable, then he should stop accepting new orders. If he treats the customers that have ordered during the rush well, then he wont lose any reputation by rejecting a few orders, lizardlick didn’t.

I’m not asking for a miracle here, or to speed up some sort of rush. I’ve worked plenty jobs that have had overflows of orders/customers before, so I understand having to wait. But a simple reply to my help desk ticket (Time Elapsed listed is 2 Days now.) would be nice, or to my post in his thread, or to my phone calls. Speed is not the issue, communication with his customers is. The order is still “Pending Charge” with no sign that kfree’s even bothered getting out of bed.

What’s the server/channel? I’ll drop it in my xchat later and see if he’s around.

I’m bumping this cause he’s had my ps3 since last September and he doesn’t answer the phone.

Called the BBB on him, we’ll see what happens as time goes on.
