Edit: scrubby Ken players. Easy to deal with.
First you need to identify the scrubby kens. Pretty easy to read them.
-Ken jumps back. He can only one thing to watch out for. You gotta be on your toes. As soon as you see hadouken start, dive kick. Learn the range. So you don’t hit the hadouken.
-Mid-screen scrubs won’t footsie. No fear. They won’t use step kick too much. If they do… Relax and block. He will either hadouken or jump in. Neutral jumps will cover both. If they jump and your on the ground, c.mp xx low fireball store. Wait to see what he does. If he jumps again, c.hp. Now hold db. He will do something stupid. Or, walk forward and then db. Baits dp.
Now srk mashing. Easy to test. Cross up mk. C.lk, c.lk (slight delay) db+mp xx lk store. The delay will bait the dp. If they do, next round they’ll do it again.
On kd, jump hp right on his head. Srk will whiff. It’s a nice bait.
Use of s.mp and s.mk will frustrate kens.

I have a feeling most juri players just want female Rufus. Shit just works.
i play both juri and rufus. juri is definitely not a female rufus. here’s a compare and contrast:
- dive kicks
rufus’s dive kick: close-range only, does not chip, can be used as a setup as well as reactive, no height restriction, multiple angles
juri’s dive kick: almost all ranges, chips (but is unsafe on block in many cases), can be used as a setup as well as reactive (but it doesn’t take TOO much reaction to jump over a fireball thrown at an unsafe range to punish), height restriction (very little), multiple angles
the main difference is that juri’s dive kick is not the core of her offense. juri’s dive kick is a “threat”. fireball characters knowing the capability of juri’s dive kick will not throw fireballs at ranges where she can jump over it to punish (guile being an exception, juri has to be psychic). it also punishes gief lariats done to build meter at bad ranges as well. it’s a large part of juri’s strength, to have them fear the dive kick and tell them “you have to come to me, you can’t do this and this and this, what are you gonna do, jump?” then they try to come at you and kill themselves (hopefully).
rufus on the other hand, dive kicks a lot for various reasons but mainly it is his combo/mixup starter. juri can, at best, use close range dive kick as a means to chip (bad idea) or to undo footsies for a very small damage (rufus gets a ~260 damage combo, juri gets like 40 damage off of 1st hit of dive kick).
- offensive special move frame advantage
rufus is well known for being safe after chipping with his bnb combo (st.hp xx hp galactic tornado). he is at +0 frames (some dispute that this is -1) on any non-ex version of tornado. this lets him continue his mixup game up close as he might dive kick again, push other buttons, try to throw somehow, etc. whatever he wants to do. fat guy dont care
juri is INCREDIBLY unsafe after blocked pinwheels. i am convinced that you should NEVER finish a blockstring with lk pinwheel to chip – she is around -9 against crouching opponents (-4 against standing, but everyone down backs in this game). most people who have good reactions can punish this with a huge combo, such as ryu cr.mk xx fireball, rose cr.mp xx drill, dudley cr.lp cr.lp st.hk xx ex machinegun blow. speaking of dudley, every bad machinegun blow is heavily punishable. same with juri. never do any pinwheels unless you’ve hit confirmed your combo, have 2 meters to FADC immediately, or if they can’t react fast enough. people will (and do) learn, though.
they didn’t fix this in AE. is capcom scared of juri or something?
tip – the safest “chip” scenario is low fuhajin release (regular or ex).
… that’s about it. i hope that explains juri != female rufus. rufus is relatively easy to pick up and win with (easiest characters to learn in vanilla were rufus and zangief), juri takes a lot more getting used to and a ton of thinking. i think learning people’s tendencies as a rufus player helped me a bunch, but the situations where the same things can be applied are scarce – juri rarely gets a continuous pressure run.
i put in 80%+ of my time into playing juri, and the rest of the time is enough for me to maintain my rufus. like kail said, shit just works. juri? not quite.

Depends. If you design your blockstrings well enough a MK Senpusha can be safe. Even if its -9 you can use Senpusha to push opponent just further than sweep distance. So even if opponent has advantage he can’t do anything to punish because he lacks range.
I often end my blockstrings with LK senpusha. But never from up close. Only at max/sweep distance. It can actually set up a nice trap (and not just in the corner).
im not arguing against what he said ^^;; just adding to his point of view. they’re not similar characters, so i’m supplying more info to reinforce that point.
any cr.mk xx lk pinwheel is punishable by ryu’s cr.mk xx fireball. there is no safe range from that. that’s the most common situation where you shouldn’t use it. as for other matchups, its still difficult to stay within footsie range, footsie with cr.mk xx lk pinwheel and expect not to be punished. mk pinwheel is definitely not safe.
Depends. If blocked high and both hits it’s safer. Can’t be c.mk.
I’m saying… People want someone who can dive kick safely with a forward moving move they can use and be safe with an ex reversal that can be safely fadc confirmed with easy ultra setups… Pick Rufus. Hell. I’m learning him. Was him or cammy and cammy is getting nerfed while Rufus has a great anti air like juri.
What people need to understand is the fundamentals of Zoning, utilizing block strings and pushing your opponent into the corner. In a fight as Juri that’s all that matters, nothing else. I’ve come close to losing a ton of matches, but if i get them in the corner i can begin juri’s crazy damaging combo. On average Juri can do 350-450 (roughly) damage in the corner alone! Not to mention the mix up of Whatever you like(J. mk, j. hk, cr.lp, cr. lk, cr. mk, you get the point)>(if you connect) lk fuhajin stock> FA2> forward jump mp>reset> ex lk fuhajin to continue the pressure and if you don’t connect on any of those moves you chip and chip is damage people and it’s all freaking safe! You guys have to realize how much of a mind fuck it is for people when Juri begins to demolish that health bar. People panic, but you’re just calm because you’re in control of the match, and we all know Juri loves control just as much as she loves raping mofos! Another thing for all the new people picking up juri is that her normals are great, but this requires practice! Before you learn any of her sweet links or an fadc into ultra II, you need to see what does what. Juri’s normals can pretty much stuff a lot of moves but it requires a lot of situational spacing and making great reads. Her best post are her lk (at any distance) cr.mk (because you can set up a basic block string) and far away mk. If you feel your opponent is running away lk pin, far standing lk, far standing mp or far standing mk are great for stopping your opponent dead in their tracks. For the scrubs who you encounter online who like to cut and run, j. mp or j. fk will do the trick! There’s so much i could list here it would take me such a long time! What i can’t emphasis the most is just sticking with her and practicing, oh and also coming to this board and asking questions here! Funny i was picking up rufus only so i could understand the dive kick aspect in preparation for Yang in AE.
Rufus is mad fun to play as. Just wish he wasn’t so ugly. Heh.

First you gotta work on block strings, because they pretty much enables you to score chip damage or a potential hit.
some basic ones
standing low kicks, either close or far away. and you can use it to tech trap into sekku.
cr.mk or cr. mp to lk fireball stock or ex fireball stock. Work on those first before you move on. You should always have at least 2-3 block strings to mix it up. eventually you’ll begin to see other options and possiblities.

I see but, I’ve been having problems working on stocking 2 at most on combos and others I know howto do. Still working on her combos with stock and FSE combos.
