"Mmm... You look like you're in good shape": Juri Q&A and General Discussion Thread

Lol, who said pick U1 on the tag bar?

Anyway, does anyone make use of her Kasatushi armor cancel? Sometimes I just want people to get off me so I break it out at times. It’s safer than using EX Pinwheel on its own at least.

EX Kasa has such weird properties. It seems to armor cancel by itself into itself at times.

So - I’ve been looking around.

Other then poking on wakeup - Juri have any other options? She seems ridiculously limited in that sense.

During FSE, if you hit cr.HP at around max.range and cancel it into cr.HK, cr.HK will go right through the opp. At least on Bison and Hawk it does. I think it’s universal.

Shit is dumb.

Bison is dumb. Hate him in Super. Abel is dumber. Guile… fuck you.

-Guile, +All charge characters

you can try to wake up ex counter if you know they’ll strike you. but i don’t think i need to mention what happens if they bait it tho. but otherwise, her wakeup options is so D-rank at best.

Yeah, I was testing a various amount of different wake ups.

Managed to get a few EX-Pinwheels when people tried to arial me, other then that I just go for some d.lk spam.

I don’t know whether I’m looking to vent some frustration or looking for advice, but I’ve been having a horrible time with my Juri (in online matches).
I keep telling myself that probably the lion’s share of reasons why I do horribly (and lose) in online matches are due to just that: they are online matches.

I feel that Juri’s not a character that can force her way in well (e.g. Guile, Dictator, Boxer), and requires a careful read of your opponent.

However, I can’t get a read on the overwhelming majority of online players. They just simply follow spontaneous thoughts. They also perform the same thing over and over, even after getting punished for it multiple times, back-to-back in a row.

The only variable in this, is me. I’m thinking I’m not doing something right. If I was playing in all the right ways (I think the “right way” is a combination of zoning and short bursts of rushdowns with the goal of herding your opponent to the corner), then it wouldn’t matter how random or how thoughtless your opponent is.

So, I would like some insight from objective points of view (because mine is obviously biased–thinking I’m better than “they,” therefore I shouldn’t be losing).

Mainly, I’m having massive difficulty with formulating a gameplan with Juri. I know the end goal: get them into the corner. It’s where Juri can lay down massive pressure and damage. I know that she has great tools for getting them to the corner: mk, hk pinwheel, full divekicks, and forward throw. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to link these two well enough for a solid plan.

I think the biggest problem lies with my zoning/footsie. She has great normals, yet her walking speed is horrid. It can be difficult to walk-up throw or set spacing for pokes and jumps. She clearly needs to jump-in for any attempt at offensive, but again her walk speed makes it difficult to set-up jumps well.

I’ve never had too much trouble walking in or just FAing and dashing forward. Her dash really is quite amazing. Using Fuhajin as a release as cover fire works fairly well too. You don’t need to jump in at all. Especially when you cosider the fact that this is Street Fighter. Jumps ain’t free.

Has it already been pointed out that you can jump over characters like Ryu with Juri’s overhead when they’re waking up in the corner? Found it a tad interesting.

Block. 90% of the time it’s your best option.

I’ve started doing this as well - and after a few obvious habits of other players, a spontaneous EX-pinwheel is nice.

wake-ups

Like most everyone else said, I find ex-pinwheels to work most of the time, but as players are getting use to Juri it’s starting to get counteracted a lot (jumping in behind her negates). The ex-counter seems the least punishable just because it seems to throw people off (at least, seems to me - I have surprised way too many projectile tossers with the lp counter).

Blocking is always the safest option, but what fun is that?

…it may not be the most fun option, but it will get you wins if you do it right.

And winning is fun.

Blocking on wake? What the hell? Dash out, counter, never EX_Pinwheel out, you’ll get baited and raped, just like people who always SRK out with shoto’s or anyone else who has a reversal type move that can be done on wake.

I haven’t seen a list of this though, and I think it’s very important for Juri user’s to memorize; what are the moves that can NOT be countered? I thought for sure all types of shoryuken attack would be an instant shield breaker, but they’re not; which opens a whole new field of kicking ass for me against Ryu and Sagat (lulz who cares about Ken?)
Is there a list on this forum (Juri’s forum duh). If not I’ll try to compile one…

Oh, I know. The first important lesson I had to learn when I started playing in earnest was block, block, block. I had to kill an innate desire to press back and up (not helped at all by playing BlazBlu).

Learning how to properly block and punish is the first thing that made me feel like I might have a chance to not suck.

On wake-up, though… not so much.

What is wrong with blocking on wakeup?

Besides, while it’s true that Shoryuken moves don’t break armor, they still break armor on Reversal. So if you land a knockdown on someone and try to focus attack them on wakeup, they can just mash uppercut and it will still break your focus.

Doesn’t break counter though, I did it against Sagat, I didn’t know him down; but I jumped in with MK, hit him, immediately countered forward, took a TuP and worked flawlessly.

I haven’t tried on wake yet, but you bet your ass I’ll be trying it later on tonight when I get back online.

It has its uses, just like how SRK on wakeup has its uses. Don’t discount EX Pinwheel on wakeup, but don’t abuse it either.

Also, regular counter has 3 frames before it’s active, which explains why you get hit with uppercuts…

Difference between a scrub and a pro: pros know how to block, scrubs mash shit out on wakeup. There was even an article about this on the frontpage a little while back. You can use EX Pinwheel or Counter on Wakeup, but only when you know what your opponent is about to do and that you won’t get baited.
