"Mmm... You look like you're in good shape": Juri Q&A and General Discussion Thread

I hear that. I had 10k on Psn, like 5k on xbl and now I have like 3k ae.

I’m fucking up!

On a random note. Why don’t we chat more? I see you at guard crush from time to time. Come out to some of the long island tourneys. We need more juri support man.

lol … werd i should … i have a friend that lives in LI and he plays AE as well … i just started to go out alot more within this community so i should be at a couple of tournaments near you real soon!

SOFFT Im at like 2k BP currently… GET AT ME! :P.

We have tourneys but a lot of them are actually out in Suffolk. It’s a ways away unfortunately. We have sessions every mon, Tuesday, Thursday. Again. Suffolk. Far.

If they reset again for the 2012 version I’m going to kill someone.

chances are that they will sooo … you guys better be readyyyyyyy LOLOLOL … i haven’t played AE in a while ima see how much BP i can get with juri in one day … hmmm probably tomorrow LOL

That what I’m talking about Juri is B plus good stuff.

Oh fudge AlukardNY I watch some of your video’s great stuff man also, nice Makoto. How often do you go to Guard Crush?

So which one of you juri’s are headed to SB next month? Let me know so we can meet up and rape stuff, i dunno.

Anyone going to T12? Going with a couple of friends, first tourny I’m going to.

i go to guard crush as often as i can … theres a lot of really good players down there … so its wroth it … and yea makoto is favorite character of mine … but i might have to go back to Viper/Juri those are my best characters lol

i might be going depends if i get this sponsorships in time  … but hopefully i can make it either way!! … i need to win one of these dam locals!!

I hear you man. My goal for dominance in the local scene hasn’t been met I almost always get top 5 but Thats not good enough. I need to win constantly. That would mean I would do much better at next level Which means exposure.

Heh.

Kail you better go. I hope to head up to next level sometime in december and then head over to socal regionals to go run it back with valle. I got to beat him!

Any tips on playing Juri lame?

I have always hated playing lame. Recently though I played a bunch of matches against really good Chun at a tournament (“she had a better c.mk! the fuck kind of wizardry is this?”) She, then went home and ran some matched against a Rose player (just counter hits on everything)… I feel just completely hopeless in those matches and so frustrated because when they are over I feel like I’ve done everything I could think of, except just play them lame.

So, for starters, any tips on how to properly zone someone out half screen+ away? Honestly, when I try and “zone” I just end up charging and throwing random fireballs, and I easily become predictable. I know this may seem like an easy answer, but I’m just having a hard time getting in the mindset of playing her lame properly.

Well, there’s a few matchups where I like to play EXTREMELY LAME.

vs T.Hawk:

I just keep throwing H fuhajins to control the air and prevent him to use Condor Dives. When he gets a bar of meter I just know he’s going to be tempted to try and go through my Fuhajins so when he’s sitting on meter I don’t release as many fuhajins. I just store them and get ready to counter his condor dive with a nj.hk combo. Up close I throw bait and use a lot of airborne attacks (close st.mk, close st.hp, instant dive kick, Sekku). Then get away and repeat. Simple and very lame, but effective.

vs Zangief:

I also control the air but a little less since I can anti-air his jumping attacks. I zone different vs Gief. Yeah I throw a lot of fuhajins to keep him on his toes but I also check him often with far st.hk. That poke is godlike in footsies I swear. On knockdowns I also check him with a far meaty sweep or Sekku. Then I back away and start laming it out again. Hit and Run. That’s how I fight Zangief. So more footsies than actual zoning. I mainly use fuhajins to bait his double lariat or focus attack then punish with dive kick or whatever.

vs Chun Li, Fei Long, Adon, Bison and Rose:

I don’t even try to play footsies with them. I just know I’ll lose the poke battle so I try to stay far and throw a lot of mids. When they get around mid-range I play more careful. vs their footsies I level 1 focus backdash a lot just to build revenge meter and I use kasatushi to get away from their poke range or try and surprise them. So basically I just try to stay out of sweep range and wait for an opening or a mistake. And of course I try to punish their specials on reaction. That’s how I lame vs those characters.

Yeah. T Hawk and Gief are not as much of a problem to play lame. I picked up the st.hk trick when I saw neo do 5 of them in a row to someone during the Evo “Salty Suite” stream.

Vs some of the others is where I feel clueless. Hope you don’t mind me explaining further:

Chun: The Chun player I fought kept tell me to not let him bully me into the corner. But I just couldn’t stop him from advancing. Don’t know if he had just had me downloaded by then, but I couldn’t even get set up to try and lame him out. It felt like I’d be half a screen away and I was getting hit with hazonshu’s on my fireball charges. Every focus was legsed. He told me to wake up kasatushi, but considering I’ve never had that work on my wake up, I told him that doesn’t work.

**Fei Long: **I actually haven’t fought many Fei’s, but from the ones I remember, I just got random rekka’d all the time.

**Adon: **I haven’t fought many Adon’s, but I do remember not having that big a problem with them. Probably cause I’m fighting bad Adons, but I haven’t been scared of Adon yet.

**Bison: **Ugh. This is one of my top 3 least favorite matches from Super. Only times in this match I seem to do good is when I just go 100% random. I have a bison friend I’ve played several times online and it feels like unless I’m downbacking 100% of the time, I’m going to just get steam rolled. This match just feels like unless I just have really good reaction, I’m going to just lose by rushdown.

**Rose: **Another of the top 3 I hated in super. I’ll back off at the opening of the round, then I don’t quite know what I should be doing. If I fireball, she’s just absorbing for a better super, or I’m too predictable cause and get jumped in on. Then she gets the knock down and it’s her cross up bullshit. Or if I happen to block it right, it’s just buttons, buttons, buttons, buttons, buttons, buttons, buttons where if I attempt anything, I’m getting counter hit. She just feels like she has free pressure on me all day with her c.strong > drill/fireball pressure once she gets that 1 knockdown.

Cammy: You didn’t mention her, but she was the last of my top 3. I can’t fireball zone her. I can’t footsie her. I can’t AA her. I get tick thrown constantly. Thankfully I have a cammy player an hour and a half away from me (not really that big of a scene in my area), so I can get some practice with him online if needs be.

I’ve read the match-up guide tips for all these charaters, but it seems like my opponent can still overpower me anyway, or I can’t properly do what the tips say. It’s just so demoralizing sometimes. And every time I try and zone it doesn’t matter vs some of these characters. Is there some kind of rotation you guys do when trying to fireball zone? Cause as of right now, I’m just randomly throwing them out and it seems like I guessed the wrong fireball 75% of the time.

Far standing hk works on well on the grapplers because they have not choice but to block, they have no real answer to punish it. If they try to jump away the anti air property of the move will knock them down.
As for certain characters i’ll give a quickie on each fight.
Chunny: She is by far one of juri’s hardest match up, everything that juri can do chun can do much better than you. She has a ton of anti airs. She has the fastest walk speed in the game so while you’re stocking a fire ball she’s walking behind a kikoken and moving you to the corner every slowly, it’s what my friend does and it pushes you in the corner because you’re trying to create space. Plus she also has one of the best dashes in the game. The main goal of the fight is making use of cr.mk to stuff her forward advances with kikoken. If you nail a cr.mk the fireball will whiff on you and you can ex pinwheel to further avoid the fireball…
Fei Long: Worst match up for juri. If he corners you, you die. You have no real big answer to his pressure. You have to keep him out at all costs. No jump ins, don’t get too close always expect chicken wing when you’re far away and zoning.
Adon: This match-up requires knowing your anti airs and knowing what punishes what. No jump ins on him and zone him out when you get the life lead. He as two ways to get in, the jagga kick and dive kick, both break so don’t focus. far standing mk and cr. mp are your best friends in this fight.
Bison: Zone at first, build meter. Poke him with far standing lk and far standing mk. Go in the lab and practice far standing lk. into mk pinwheel, that shit will matter when you get in the damage. Those two moves stuff a lot of bison’s move. A lot of bisons will try to hit you with hk, just block it, normals don’t chip =o. Air to air, he wins, jump only if he’s going for the second hit of head stop. Also, if he goes for the second hit of head stop just block and if he’s going for the second hit focus and after the move just let him have it. Only ex hits twice, if i’m correct. That’s pretty much that fight in a nutshell.
Rose: Fuck rose, win the zoning war and build meter! She cannot build meter like she used to so at the start play lame and you are one step closer to beating her. If you push her into the corner be aware that ex soul spiral is invincible on wake up, but can be grabbed, and if you block it you can punish her with an ex pinwheel.
We discussed cammy earlier, browse one of the forums. Just focus focus focus, punish punish punish and bait bait bait. Also anti air her dive kick, it’s hella easy, far standing mp will rape it. You feel pressured ex dodge outta there. You wondering if you can hit her when she’s in, no you can’t most her moves are +frames, she will rape you if you try to press something.
Hope this summary helps a bit. I’m sure the other juris can help you out if you have further questions.

yeah vs Bison you gotta have meter because if you get knocked down w/o it you’re in trouble. If you get pushed in corner without meter then you’re really in trouble

As a Bison main, my priority is always to get in on Juri quickly before she gains meter. You need to be careful when using fireballs, a Bison with good reactions, or even some yomi can headstomp you, get in with empty devils reverse, focus in and grab with his godlike mobility, slide under high fireballs or what I like to do punish with a well timed full screen psycho crusher.

My Juri gets wrecked by opposing Bisons all day, but my own Bison avenges the queen. lol

Not many characters have an instant in move. Whatever match up know the counters. Zoning is not about keeping away, its about holding your ground. Juri does this really well. You can hold fireballs infinitely. Have a hk stored from far away but know your limits. Expecting a move to come out that you need ex pinwheel? Don’t store 2 fireballs. Do you know silent release tricks?

Hold a fireball. Jab+release (whiff). Or use moves that you cant cancel like far mk. What I mean is. If your zoning and you have hk stored an blanka horizontal balls in you can stuff it with mk and you hbe the option to let go of hk to access that Button again.

Jump in the air and release the button is good also. Basically. As you are moving with fakes and holding space always be aware of the situation an the flow if battle. Sometimes releasing a fireball is risky (ex blanka ball, condor dive) but you need that button back (blanka ex balls and you have a fireball stores. You wanna dash lk pinwheel to punish bit you have a low stored. What do you do? Dash (let go during dash) lk pinwheel)

Don’t forget zone punishes. Throw the hk fireball. Confirm the hit and e pinwheel, super, lk pinwheel, ultra, etc…

Food for thought.

lol Kail, FSE sure is a magical ultra. Has the power of making people either

  1. cower in the corner (which is cool with me)

  2. mash (which is not cool with me when online)

  3. go random (o_O)

I have fun using it though. I do over head, crouch light kick, crouch medium kick, crouch medium punch, sweep, or I omit the crouch medium punch and just do sweep so I can do more pressure
