You are correct about J.lk, it does crossup and stuff Srk’s from a good angle. Your combo is impractical because its a one frame link into cr.mk which ends in a really unsafe move, IE if you miss the link your gna get punished big for quite sub par damage.
yeah I just checked it out
it could net you 210…but so could cr.MP, HK Wheel
I’d say a good use to link off of this would be an easy cr.LK, MK Wheel
or cr.LK, LK/MK Fuha Store
I’d use the last set up
j.LK, cr.LK, MK Fuha Store, LK Wheel or just store another Fuha
Welp! Now that I’ve played more and better players, I realized I’m still pretty much a Jufree at this point. Gonna take a while before she catches up with my Chun.
On that note, will be concentrating on Chun-Li, but I’ll definitely take time to visit here and level up Juri and my other alts.
cr.LK, s.LP, cr.MP/cr.MK, HK Senpusha…I love this link
but why
WHY
does s.LP whiff on crouching opponents?
its like the programmers felt it was necessary to troll Juri with this
Is this link only a problem for medium to small sized characters?
Or would it just be more applicable to just use cr.LK, s.LK etc etc instead?
If St.lk gave off the same hit stun as s.lp it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. But since it isn’t, practice those 1 frames if you want to successfully combo on opponents. FSE and 1 frames are what I basically do in training mode. Occassionally I’ll practice cr.mk fireball fadc U2. But that’s about as far training goes. I would say juri is a relatively easy character, just matchups can be hard. That’s basically all you have to practice. Know what characters Instant overheads work on. What character you can overpower with zoning or aggressiveness.
Uh oh…here comes ole mean kail to disagree with everyone.
I actually think Juri is one of the harder characters to play in this game. She has to go above and beyond to understand the slight details of the match ups with slight details on how the character works. She needs some serious work to just control the character and make what you want to happen at a certain time happen…especially with FSE on.
Her U2 isn’t hard to hit as it has a million ways to go into it, but you gotta be holding a four leafed clover on the top of the roof while having horseshoes in your pocket on the 11th day during a solar eclipse to get that setup to work sometime (tight windows, only works on certain wall bounces, negative edge, hit confirming HK, certain timings off j.mp).
Thats fine and all to know the basic understanding of the matchups, but would you pressure makoto with mp when she has meter? Probably not. Would you pressure vega with mp? Hell yea! The slight understandings of each match up is what helps juri be very scary when shes on the offensive. It overwhelms an opponent very quickly because it sometimes feels like “Nothing is working!”. Its because of advance knowledge. Some bnb’s dont work on some characters. Some dive kicks dont work on some characters, some FSE combos dont work on some characters…
You really gotta know the match up’s because juri takes even more work on defense…
My point is, she has a steep learning curve. If you wanna put the work in, you’re gravy. Some of the Juri’s here have been putting in a lot of work (Fetz stands out big time), but i’ve seen some of the new juri’s struggling. This is because the character is a little tricky. Knowing what I know now…if I had to pick between viper and juri I would have played viper…shes not as difficult to grasp with a bigger payoff.
I honestly agree with Kail here on everything, but specifically Juri’s difficulty. Juri is not, by any means, easy to use…at any level. She has no easy, brainless way into either of her ultras. All her moves are punishable. And most of all, as Kail said, she requires control. In fact, I think the control part is what makes her the most challenging. Control of space, of the matches pace, good/solid inputs (believe me, as a new stick user, I’ve come to experience this full force), etc.
If she was easy to use, you would run into her every 5 seconds.
Id say Juri is easy to use, but you need to know matchups, and thats about it, but because shes not brainless and doesnt neccesarily have brainless mixup you will eventually learn from your losses and become a better player overall.
E.g. i wouldnt pick Viper over Juri, i wouldnt pick any Vortex heavy character over Juri.
The vortex heavy characters: El Fuerte, Akuma, Abel, Viper, Ibuki and Seth.
These characters have alot of emphasis on their ability to get a knockdown and fuck you up. The problem i see many players have with these few characters is once they get to a high level, when they lose, they feel cheated, because it becomes a “oh i shouldve done X vortex move instead of Y vortex move”. Its too frustrating because you havnt learnt from losing, so they try and play with more smarts and sence into their game, but it might not work out and then they just play crazy vortex again and it starts working out, which then frustrates them because they are at square 1.
I would say that we are all saying the same thing. I would say she’s relatively easy to pick up. But when you really get to know her like a lot of us have she becomes a character that feels a bit gimped because of she requires so much knowledge to apply to her matches. Well basically what mike said. I’m not disregarding what either of you are saying but we are all basically saying the same thing. Matchups matchup matchups.
Easy to pick up for sure
then the mixups/stored fireball gimmicks/stop-using-pinwheel-that-way-you’ll-get-killed- lessons take some time.
I must be fucking stupid to notice this so far into the SF lifespan but you can easily OS Ultra 1 activation from a cr.lk, you do cr.lk x FSE, if they block it you get standing jab, if they backdash you get FSE and can punish with: Far mp xx cr.mk xx st.hk xx pinwheel or sumin like that, it would work better on characters that can block a standing jab after a cr.lk though. Might investigate further because of the invincibility frames FSE has, might be useful vs a reversal or sumin.
edit: Doesnt avoid any invincible reversals, even when i hit with the last active frame of a cr.lk, it has got good uses for its “pause button” effect, you can catch specific reversals with specific punishs. Vegas backdash + flips, Goukens Ex Demon Flip, Elf’s DP air grab, Yang Ex Command Dash, Abel’s Ex Roll, etc…
If you add a LK to the Ultra buttons you can get a standing LK. You can also end your direction input in the down position. If you can time it right you can use st LP on wake up, and actually combine it with the first half of the ultra motion. The easiest timing I’ve found is after a sweep, follow it with a fwd dash x2. Its not automatic tho’, you have to wait a couple of frames or the LP will whiff.
If you want automatic timing you can use cr LK and use the shorcut for ultras after the fwd dash x2.
Starting to pick up Juri recently, she’s great fun and a nice change from Sakura
Fergus2K8 that great same here actually I feel I wanna learn her again I drop her. But, Juri is fun and amazing in AE in my opinion and watching Neo juri made me go back lol and ready for EVO2011. Does anyone know when does it start for EST?
Wait, wait EVO’s this WEEKEND!!! Argh ill miss the beginning of it then…lol
Yup! :lovin: I’ve got my fridge stocked with beer and snacks, stream monster setup ready and tested and I’m all hyped up
Unfortunately I couldn’t afford the 1000+ EUR for flights this year to come watch & play live, maybe I’ll get there when EVO2012 hits.
Same, lighting the BBQ, getting some mates over (some who dont even particularly like FG’s but thats the plan), having some beers and setting up the laptop to the big screen entertainment system. It better be sick, with minimum twins on deck.
Say worrrd.
I still remember watching Edma kill it in the top 32 last year as well as the losers with his Juri. He was so sick. Hopefully this year we’ll see more Juri players make it to the top 32. And I hope Edma comes back too haha.
I guess this is kind of a general question, but any idea if all the big name Juri players are going to make it to Evo (I can’t find a full roster)?
