Why?

It is a well known fact of SF4 that a special move done on Reversal gets armor break properties. I’m pretty sure this doesn’t apply to normals, but 100%, specials on Reversal are armor breaking.

And yes, you should abuse counter more. It’s a great tool that I feel is being underused by most Juri players I see. It has offensive and defensive shenanigans and can turn the tides quickly. I love the counter.

Reversals do not add anything to the property of a move. All they do is signify that the move was performed on the first frame it was possible to do so. If you prove otherwise, then ill eat my words.

Any reversal special will break anything with armor. Unfortunately, this includes Juri’s counter. So if you have Ken waking up, if you just about anything, his SRK will break her counter. Her counter is almost useless for wakeup shenanigans unless you’re fighting like… I don’t know… fucking… Well, Juri, really. lmfao.

This is most likely why it broke armor in a real match as opposed to training mode. Even after recording the dummy to do 500 jab shoryukens, it will almost never land a reversal. Maybe a few counterhits here and there (does not break armor, remember that), but almost never a reversal. If you had someone to help you test it in training mode by mashing an SRK out of your blockstrings or wakeup, you’ll get the same armor break.

Interesting didn’t know wakeup reversals were armor breakers, good stuff.

all reversals moves(any kind) turn into armor breaks.

easy way to test this is with juri or anyone is pick i dunno gief as player 1 and juri or anyone as player 2.
set the dummy to record. and record a back throw or c.rh. then do counter or focus on the wake up
set it to playback and restart it
when you wake up with geif do kick lariet or dp or rush punch they will all break armor and knock down

1st thing i tried when i saw her counter was option select counters with ex hoping it woulldnt armor break off reversals and cou;lld use it as a wake up game but sf4 reality hit ::sad faced::

I agree. Not only am I seeing fewer and fewer Juri players online, I see even fewer that know how to use the counter. Over the past 2 days I’ve really been practicing its use and can say that I continue to improve after implementing that into my game.

Yeah, its amazing how many “Holy crap!”, “Wow!”, “What the…?” you hear when playing at events or casuals when you pull of a counter. Some people don’t even realize its part of her move list, lol.

I havent tested it or anything but i’ve had some Dudleys use Cross counter to stop my Dives, I was like “WTF shouldnt that shit get beaten?” Maybe Dudley’s works on any move as long as it hits high?

Dudley’s counter is weird. It can even counter some ultras I hear. But alas, that should be in the Dudley discussion page, or the match-up thread.

Or set a training dummy to knock you down, then charge focus attack in front of you while you spam Shoryuken on wakeup. Note that Shoryuken generally does not armor break. When you get a reversal, tell me what happens.

This. Happened all the time when a lot of people were trying to play with her. I loved how even without a mic, you could see their startled dashing while you moved in for the kill after a successful counter. I haven’t actually lost a Juri vs. Juri match yet. Which is good for this particular Juri-maining SFIV scrub’s self-esteem. Still a ways to go though.

This forum is easily the best thing I’ve found to help me with understanding what a total noob I am and how far I have to go… which is actually kind of exciting. But anyway. I’m wondering about the usefulness of Juri’s counter where she ends up behind the opponent - when I’ve tried it at the start of a combo the rest of the combo just seems to transition to the other side immediately, so I’m still getting hit by it but the other way round. Is that one that you have to use at the end of a combo or am I just too slow?

I fully expect the answer to be the latter, but I thought it was worth asking…
