IMO wings look and are way cooler than a horn.
Also, it was shown you could fly as a unicorn in S1E16, Sonic Rainboom, by Rarity via Twilight. So meh.

They’re starting casting calls for Rarity’s VA. This one looks like it’s gonna be a difficult voice to nail. They are now requiring certain lines to be performed in the audition, including:
- “Thiiis is whiiining… This harness is too tight!, it’s going to chaafeee… Can you loosen it?.. Ugggh… it hurts, and it’s so nasty!”
- “You, sir, are the most uncharming prince I have EVER met. In fact, the only thing “royal” about you is that you’re a royal pain… AFRAID TO GET DIRTY?!”
- "noo! I’m up against <pony>, whatever shall I do? [feigned despair]"
And I can’t wait to hear, - “Work harder, Leedin, darling!” (Though this one’s optional)

I think Hearths Warming Eve showed us what it’s like:
Earth Ponies - peasant caste
Pegasus Ponies - warrior caste
Unicorn Ponies - noble caste
And of course, Alicorn Ponies - immortal gods
I guess you could argue that pegasuses will always be faster(better wings) and stronger(culture), but then again… Unicorns have been shown to be able to teleport, walk through walls, fly, telekinesis, grow mustaches… They seem pretty overpowered.
But then again, doing magic also seems to tire them (Twilight could only give Rarity wings and opted for a less costly cloudwalk spell), so perhaps their limited mana balances them out? Their flight time and speed may be very limited.
Basically in a war, the unicorns would have awesome power at their command, but perhaps they could be overrun with aggressive pegasuses while “reloading”?
And if the battle was on pegasus home turf (clouds) the unicorns would have to spend mana and focus just to be there.
Edit: Nice, Rarity time. I’m not sure I’ve heard a good Rarity soundalike, let’s hope they find someone good.
Or as a last resort go with Egoraptor. “Hey guys, check it out! Applejack’s eatin a shitload of apples!”

Oh ya I change my opinion on the episode before this one, it was boring as hell up until the montage.
This episode was nice though, I liked the humor and those adorable babies. I thought it dragged on some and the plot wasn’t very interesting, I’ll probably hate watching it a 2nd time. There were tons of moments that stuck out to me but I don’t like singling those out as a reason as to why the episode is good. so eh 7 episodes later I can finally say I really enjoyed one all through.

ending was pretty stupid though, Pinkie Pie did NOT learn how to raise those children. She just burst into tears and they took pity on her. Next time she watches them they’ll probably destroy the house.
