What have I done? Not much really. Just a fighting game fan and forum goer. But, I call out BS when I see it and I think blaming a game as the reason you can’t win is pretty lame. That was my first strike against juice personally. The other one is obviously what this thread is about, MLG and “esports” and how dudes like him are going to be all about esports and everything it entails because it gives them a chance to make money since they can’t make it in a “real honest way”, since that’s the phrase to throw around these days. That’s why he is gonna dick ride bic or whoever happens to be there. It’s a joke, he’s a joke, mlg/esports is a joke, but none of it is funny.
On to the rest of your post, I actually did end up watching about 3 mins of it when it autoloaded on me over at eventhubs checking results, I saw fubarduck and brewtiswhateveris sitting there and it looked awkward as fuck. Like they literally had sticks up their asses. After I shut it off and went back to the NCR stream it felt like coming home. There were people crowded around the players, the commentary was natural and funny, it was much more entertaining and on such a higher caliber I was shocked. I really hope that FGC never turns into something as stuffy and produced as that, heaven help us all.
Jokes aside, I agree with you though redrapper. If you don’t like the esports direction, go and support your local scene or help out a local tournament organizer. All this gung-ho philosophical shit about the fgc is kinda annoying, frankly.
MLG Tekken was pretty sick. Tekken was in a decline but MLG brought new life to it. If you guys didn’t enjoy it, fine, but most of the tekken community liked it. MLG dropped it, but so what? Most FGC events for Tekken were declining in the same period anyway.
Plus, MLG isn’t going to pick up Capcom games so don’t get your panties in a bunch. The MK/SCV/KoF community aren’t as mad as the capcom players which is hilarious.
You guys should appreciate MLG for supporting fighting games. The fighting games are getting more support from MLG than Halo is. All of the fighting games at MLG brought less than 300 competitors, and has 1.5x the prizepool compared to Halo which brought out 1000+ competitors. Halo was only announced 6 weeks beforehand and the format and settings were announced less than 3 weeks from the event. Plus, the fighting game crowd at MLG last weekend had no hype whatsoever. The Halo crowd was easily the loudest there, but was 1/3 the size of the sc2 crowd.
MLG should stick to their roots and support communities that support them back. This is why capcom games should never be there. The capcom FGC is really ungrateful.
Btw, ads allow for the prizepool to be that high. You guys can stick to your low pots if you want, and watch sfxt timeouts all day.
why does your melty blood comment mean anything again? it go in cause it was a fan voted in title. that was my point. also, where is my point about smash actually making it to evo? you like to just take some of what i say and not all then conjure up some argument thats irrelevant? evo has shunned a couple capcom games already. those titles include HDR and also 3sOE. game go by popularity and by that i dont mean whats the current popular game in japan, i mean in america. blazblue doesnt have a scene in america and if it did dont you think that game wouldve been voted in when opportunity arose? im not gonna get much more into this topic cause its definitely off topic and your points have already been proven to be transparent.
There’s nothing to worry about, Since MLG will never get Capcom games anyways. Also MLGAdam confirmed no Capcom games in the future on twitter.
There was an interview today with MLG’s CEO and he mentioned that fighting games will be the priority this year, So expect them to keep reading feedback, hiring from the community, and just plain trying improve there fighting game division.
are you part of the tekken community? and whos opinion did you gather this from that they enjoyed it? cause im surrounded by the top tekken players and havent heard anything about this.
how do you know the capcom players are mad? and if they were why would this be funny? and do you know for a fact mlg isnt going to pick up capcom games?
if we arent the tekken crowd, the mk/scv/kof crowd why should we appreciate mlg? they arent going to pick up capcom games anyways right? so why should we appreciate it?
so i still dont understand where you allegiance is. are you mlg? are you a halo player? if you arent fgc, how do you know we arent grateful?
do prizepools directly effect anyone aside from the top placers or even 1% of the community? how do higher pots affect you? are you a top player and receive more money from watching adds?
do you see how all your comments are so easily picked apart? im not trying to offend you but cmon now. you are trying to make a point yet everything you say has no grounds of proof and just opinion combined with a bunch of bias and slandering remarks. if this is your form of debate you might as well just go post on some mlg forum cause everything you said will not make any progress in trying to unite communities. and lets just say fgc does want to become esports, you are so against fgc why in the hell would you even bother wanting this to happen since you seem to despise the fgc so much…
cliffs : bring a legit argument to the table and not some 11 year old rant kid.
This is equivalent to saying KoF doesn’t have matchups (or every match is close to 5-5).
This is laughable. The skill ceiling may be a bit higher than SF4 because everyone who matters has 4 years of SF4 experience and many have considerably less KoF experience, so you might not SEE the matchups coming into play as much yet, but to pretend they wouldn’t exist if we played KoF as our main game for 4 years, or to pretend matchups aren’t a deciding factor in high-level KoF played in other countries who are more well-versed in the game, is just downright stupid on his part.
BTW, Abel vs Rufus is probably 6-4 Rufus. It’s not even Abel’s toughest match. Send some Japanese Abels over to have some long sets with Justin, maybe Juicebox would actually learn something instead of blaming the game for his loss. If you really think it’s unwinnable, practice a counterpick. Don’t pretend that SF4, a game with probably the fewest unwinnable matchups in SF history, is the problem here.
Regardless of whether they “play” in whatever capacity, they show up with the intention of doing nothing but watching. I’ve been to and watched many SC events. Most the people there don’t wanna do anything but watch, or maybe get a picture with MVP. You pretty much said it yourself. Speaking as a competitive player, people who never enter competitions are spectators.
For the record, I was just paraphrasing what Juicebox expressed; not saying that I particularly agreed with it. And I agree that SFIV is the most balanced SF game yet, and that for the most part blaming your losses on the matchup kind of comes off as just fishing for excuses.
I’d take you seriously, but having a conversation about EVO with someone who doesn’t know anything about it is a complete waste of time.
I don’t think you even know who the EVO organizers are, and if you do, then how can you say that they are in it for the money???
They would have stopped years ago if they were in it for the money.
several high level players have said the same thing about some of the good SF4 characters, and how they don’t have to play traditional SF like everyone else. C Viper, Seth. dunno why it’s so controversial when Juicebox says it.
You guys need to relax a little. This whole FGC vs eSports thing is starting to get a little stupid. It’s the same thing when people diss AE2012 and claim that Marvel is the superior game.
Also, this whole ad thing isn’t that big of a deal. Have you guys heard YouTube? Everything has ads. Take a chill pill and let MLG learn from their mistakes.
I agree completely (although I am part of the mother fuckers who watched the finals for MK9 and SC5 at least :()
I would however like it if the FGC organizers or stream dudes would do some type of post-type interview for at least a short minute or 2 to discuss what happened.
For fighting game “pros” to be wanting to make a living wage off of this then you have a long way to go. I think what put it into perspective is Keruso (sp) winning that 1500 and people making a big deal about it. I wonder if people realize you can get that guaranteed “paypuh” within 1-2 weeks (or if you’re doing something else, 1-2 days.)
Off topic but I hope Arturo made some consulting money at least for time spent at MLG. They want FGC to be a business fine let it be a business. But don’t sell your time short they are looking to make buckets of cash. If your advice takes them from this stream to the Must Watch, that’s worth a lot to them.
The solution is simple, don’t watch MLG. It’s the tack I took and I had a perfectly great weekend watching NCR instead. I like watching SC2 as well but I can’t stand watching even that on MLG, you have to pay for a decent quality stream, boring commentators, absurd amounts of time between matches, ads every 2 seconds, etc. Same problems that plagued their FG stream from what I’m seeing in this thread.
I’m honestly fine with eSports as long as it’s not MLG running the show. eSports or not they just plain suck at putting on a show.
