MLB (Baseball) 2009 (including fantasy leagues)

“Tiger Killer” got killed.

Wow. Ricky Nolasco with 16K, including 9 in a row for the Fish. Good shit.

Yeah, it’s a good thing the Cubs traded him and 2 other players for fucking Juan Pierre. That was a stroke of genius.

Guess I don’t have to worry about watching baseball on Sunday.

Twins won today but the Tigers got the series split that they needed to sow up the division. Unless the Tigers are swept by the Chicago White Sox and the Twins sweep the Royals Detroit wins the AL Central.

Rockies up 7-1 in the bottom of the 8th.

Barring a major collapse, the N.L. Playoffs are locked in as far as teams go.

Rocktober V.2, this should be fun.

Rockies win 9-2. Time to heat up the bats for the playoffs fellas, I want to go to some more World Series games (but, you know, win this time).

Dodgers - Rockies is going to be hype, gentlemen. We get a series with playoff intensity a little bit early.

The Dodgers cannot afford to be swept and end up a Wild Card team.

Not really. Both teams are making the playoffs so in their mind they don’t have anything to play for other than a division title for whatever that’s worth. Kershaw’s pitching today but I don’t see the Dodgers pitching him more than 5 innings if they’re responsible. The teams aren’t going to throw the games but they won’t be trying as hard to win the NL West as you might think.

Twins are still alive. Now they have to beat Greinke today (not really but you know what I mean). I hope they show this game on Fox but with them you never know. Since it’s on Saturday afternoon it can only be shown on Fox so Extra Innings/MLB.TV isn’t an option.

They’d still like to win the division and have the best record possible to at least seal a home field advantage during the NL playoffs. Wild Card takes away home field, even if the Wild Card team has a better record then a division winning team, while winning the division and having the best record in the NL will have home field up until the World Series so they’d like to take any advantage they can get.

HFA isn’t as big of a deal in Baseball compared to say Football and Basketball. I’m not sure that the Dodgers, Phillies, or Cardinals really care about it all that much. They each have a losing record in their last 10 games. In the Dodgers 5 game losing streak 4 of those games were to the Pirates and Padres. If they really wanted to they could have sown up HFA a long time ago. They know they’re making the playoffs and are acting like it. Besides where they play isn’t really going to hide their starting pitching flaws anyway.

Except the Rockies play in the only ballpark where tee balls go over the fence. That should be an advantage to some team if not Colorado.

I guess the Dodgers have nothing to worry about then.

Coors Field is still hitter-friendly but it’s not Blake Street Bombers-era bad anymore. It’s comparable to Citizens Bank Park. If anything that helps both teams so no team has a decided advantage over the other because of the actual field.

NL cy young, who you like?
Was heartbreaking to see wainwright not get his win like that. I knew as soon as they went to the pen something fucked up was prolly gonna happen.

And lol, braden looper won his 14th game last night. The first brewer to do it since 1993 wtf what a shitty franchise.

Chris Carpenter or Tim Lincecum? I can’t remember the last time a Cy Young race has been this close.

Tim Lincecum leads the league in strikeouts per 9 innings. Chris Carpenter leads the league in ERA+ while pitching home games in a more hitter-friendly ballpark.

Overall they’ve both had great seasons but for me the strikeouts make the difference. For Lincecum to still put up his stats while pitching more innings per start than any other in the National League constantly throwing tons of pitches (as strikeouts pitchers tend to do) is what’s most impressive to me.

Writers don’t normally like to give awards to players in consecutive seasons unless they’re on some Barry Bonds/Randy Johnson level of play but I think that Tim Lincecum is deserving of back to back NL Cy Young awards.

Biggest news of the day: Ricciardi OUT as GM of the Jays.

Jesus CHRIST this guy was an idiot.

The Tigers have an interesting dilemma. Because of the rainout and doubleheader earlier in the week their two best pitchers Rick Porcello and Justin Verlander could pitch tomorrow on short rest. The question becomes do you use Verlander Sunday ensuring a win (or at least that’d be the plan anyway) and then have Porcello pitch a possible play-in game? Or do you switch roles and have the ace pitching in game 163. I think what happens tonight determines who’ll pitch tomorrow. They lose it’s Verlander. If they win it’ll be Porcello.

Why he wasn’t fired earlier is a mystery to me.

Correction. The doubleheader was on Tuesday so both Verlander and Porcello could start tomorrow with regular rest. I still think that if the Tigers win tonight Porcello pitches tomorrow and if they lose they’ll start Verlander.
