Don’t do it L.A.
That’d be a nice trade for Cleveland if they were to get Kershaw.
Personally Kershaw is the one pitcher I would like the Jays to get if they were to trade Halladay, but I really think that’s unlikely.
I don’t like it. Garko’s is a 28-year-old average player and you give up a 21 year old kid who’s dominating (albeit in Single-A). At least Garko should play everyday now while hitting in the middle of the order so he should have some more fantasy value.
Garko trade is fine really. Upgrade over Ishikawa and prospects at the Single A level are incredibly hit or miss versus a sure everyday player. Also should point out that the Giants are pretty solid in terms of pitching and they are actually in the race for the wild card. They needed the hitting now.
Against left-handed pitching Garko is a better player but against right-handed pitching their numbers are similar.
Ishikawa: 265 batting average /.319 on base%/.423 slugging percentage
Garko: .265/.349/.424
Ishikawa is also regarded as a much better defensive player. So essentially the Giants traded a promising prospect for a negligible upgrade in offense and a definite downgrade defensively.
The trade really makes little sense when you think about it. I guess when the Giants face the occasional lefty starter Garko could be useful but other than that no.
It’s not signing Barry Zito bad but it’s not a move that needed to be made. Or maybe that’s the problem. Desperation tends to lead people into making poor decisions.
Yeah, that’s a bad trade for the Giants. They didn’t get better really, they got older. You gotta let young players develop when they’re not outright bad.
yes and by the time he’s developed and is worthwhile cann and lincecum might be gone or not as good due to injuries sustained in the 4-5 years it took him to develop
probably more of a neutral trade. indians are in start over mode and this will help them, garko won’t
giants in we’re close lets try to win now mode and might trade more prospects to get there
Rangers will catch the Angels, bet!!!
And now the Giants have one less prospect to trade since they wasted it on Ryan Garko. They’d have been better off going after a player like Adam Dunn. It would show that they mean business about trying to win the Wild Card and that they actually know what they’re doing in the front office.
if they’re going to trade with the nationals should of went after nick johnson
nationals tied up too much money in dunn for some reason and want a lot for him.
plus dunn wouldn’t be good for that park. he strikes out too much and relies on home runs
giants stadium isn’t good for home run hitters, much more of a pitchers park which would limit his ability so he would just be a fly out strike out batter with occasional home run
Adam Dunn could hit hr out of the grand canyon, the stadium really would not matter.
The Giants used to have this one left-handed power hitter who did okay hitting at Pac-Bell/AT&T park. What his name again? I think it was Barry Bonds or something but I might not be sure.
Adam Dunn can hit homeruns anywhere. Nationals Park is considered a poor hitting park yet he’s doing there what he does everywhere.
Really? Look at Adam Dunn’s 2009 splits.
Home: .242/.383/.484
Away: .319/.431/.632
That is a BIG difference - 200 points of OPS. On the road, he’s Pujols. At home, he’s Shin-Soo Choo.
Also, check out his lifetime stats at AT&T Park, 27 games worth - .172/.265/.313
Ugh.
Dunn’s hit a home run at an average rate of one every 14 at-bats over the course of his entire career…in AT&T Park, only 4 home runs in 99 at-bats, only one homer per 24 at-bats.
Remember that Dunn’s been playing in Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park for most of his career as well, a great hitter’s park.
Career home: .251/.389/.535
Career away: .248/.378/.508
There’s a distinct difference there. Not as distinctive as the splits for a guy from the Rockies or the Padres, but it’s there.
You might have a point if Garko was actually discernibly better than Ishikawa. Ishikawa might never be more than a league average first baseman…but Garko is pretty much guaranteed to never be more than a league average first baseman. Plus they don’t lose a quality prospect by just continuing to play Ishikawa? How does Garko get them any closer to winning now?
You can say that for most power hitters though. They hit better in the better hitting parks. That doesn’t mean Adam Dunn is any less of a beast or that the Giants shouldn’t trade for him. He’ll still be the guy who hits for power but less so and he’ll still take walks like nobody’s business.
He has bad numbers in that park but it’s 27 games over 8 or 9 years. I can’t take much from that. I really hope that’s not what got Brian Sabean to choose Ryan Garko over Adam Dunn (assuming other factors).
Chris Tillman up tomorrow for the O’s. After Berken throws tonight I guess they’ll decide if they send him down or cut Rich Hill. I do hope they cut Hill. I don’t think I can stand watching him get lit up again. Also reading there are a ton of teams interested in George Sherrill. Makes me wonder who the hell the O’s have to close if they deal him. granted, they don’t get many save situations
Chris Ray was the closer before George Sherrill. He can be the closer after Sherrill. So what if he has an ERA over 9 and a WHIP over 2? The Orioles pitching blows with Sherrill. Without him? My goodness.
The Royals and the Orioles are playing tonight and it got me thinking. The O’s have hitting but no pitching. The Royals have pitching but not hitting. If only there was some way to combine the Orioles offense with the Royals pitching. They’d be one of the best teams in the American League.
Yeah, been quite a snorefest. At least Berken isn’t getting knocked around too bad tonight. I agree with the O’s hitting but they still frustrate the shit out of me. Oh, the hometown team owes I guess. I haven’t kept up with Ray since they sent him back down. Guess I gotta see what he’s up to.
Bottom of the 9th, 2 outs and Ichiro step up to the plate…
