Probably too late to sell high now but the Blue Jays hitters (Lind,Hill,Scutaro) are coming back to earth. Instead of monster seasons they’ll have very good seasons.
Even though he plays in Petco I have to believe that Adrian Gonzalez has one more monster month left in him.
I don’t know about that. He’s a left handed hitter in a hitter friendly park playing in an incredible lineup. I get that he’s old but that DL stint might have been the best thing for him. All that rest does an old body good.
The Rays basically made 2 moves in the offeseason and got burned by both of them.
They traded Edwin Jackson for Matt Joyce. Matt Joyce is playing well in AAA but Edwin Jackson has been pitching like an all-star. Can’t really fault them for that though. Jackson showed little while in Tampa and with Shields, Kazmir, Garza, and later Price, and Niemann there just wasn’t a spot in the starting rotation for him. This trade could still work out well for the Rays.
They gave Pat Burrell a 2-year contract at big money for them. It seemed like a good deal at the time paying for a bootleg Adam Dunn. He started off poorly then he got hurt and hasn’t been able to recover since. He’s thought of as a good 2nd half player so I wouldn’t give up on him just yet. As it turns out the Rays didn’t need his offense but they’ll certainly take it for the rest of the season.
Even if these moves worked out for them I think the Rays would still be looking up at the Red Sox and the Yankees. They’re just too good.
I’d bet on Capps or Grabow before Sanchez given the market for 2b isn’t that strong really, at least not at the price the Pirates will want for him.
Clay Buchholz back in the bigs for two starts. Go pick him up.
Burrell is a player in the mold of Giambi. Draws tons of walks, hits for decent power, but the BA just drops the older he gets.
Whoever mentioned Ibanez. Ummm. no. don’t sell. He’s been completely ownable for years in Seattle, but changing leagues to the MLB lite and into a smaller park with a better lineup has done wonders for him.
Isn’t Lowell still out? In either case I think LaRoche becomes the first bat off the bench, over Kotsay.
It was a big salary dump for the Pirates for a player they don’t need, so good there for once…Sox didn’t give up any significant high-level prospects and they got some Major League depth out of it…
So in the end, pretty much a completely uninteresting, insignificant trade.
The difference is that the Marlins always get quality players back when trading their guys. They’re like a recycling factory. No team in MLB does more with less than the Florida Marlins. Larry Beinfest is the new Billy Beane.
I can’t believe the Marlins have no fan base with such an exciting team. They got so many crazy athletes on that team and no one goes to watch them.
White Sox with a very tough blown save loss last night, Jenks has been struggling with control. He’s still got nasty stuff at times, but he needs to stop trying to use it so much and focus on control more, if that makes sense lol.
I tell you this Beckham kid is super sick, he’s a doubles machine. I predict a few 50+ doubles seasons in his career.
This guy I work with likes the Marlins. I told him the Marlins are due for a title soon. Even though I like the Phillies, I’m all for more Marlins titles.
It’s so hilarious to see them unleash young talent they’ve amassed, win a title, and then sell it all away.
