I’m concerned about the damage as well, if the lead designers are already pulling shit like that, in a game that’s still in development, what can we expect when the game’s finished and some combo freaks start to experiment? they NEED to fix the damage. The combo does look sick, but I agree, +40% at this early is too much.
40% isn’t that crazy considering a lot of combos in UMK3 are over 50%, and you have two characters so it is really around 20% of your total lifebar per round. It isn’t super ridiculous, but I do agree that they need to watch the damage though, especially if you can combo into, and out of an X-ray, plus have the ability to swap in another character.
4x hatchet, Lao swap-in, air combo, hat, X-ray, combo finisher.
Also, there are breakers in this game. To do a high damage combo you would have to be using your meter loosely, and any idiot that doesn’t conserve enough meter to break a combo that large deserves what they get imo.
Not to mention that it takes a full meter to use the X-Ray moves, so it they’re doing a level three meter combo and you break it…you should have a pretty big advantage.
chess combat ftw
OP Updated with recent stuff
Yeah, but I was refering at the early stages of development in wich the game is at the moment. I don’t think the testers in umk3 were doing +40% combos when the game was at that development state. And if they were, I think they got fixed, I remember when mk3 came out, the first revision had some 100% combos that were fixed on revision 2.0 I believe. I’m not sure about the rev. number
Or maybe the game is almost finished (gameplay system) and all they have to add is characters, alities and shit?
And I agree with your 2nd paragraph, it looks like the meter will add some strategy
The meter will likely provide some security. X-Ray moves can’t be strung into a combo that requires one or more EX specials. And comboing after an X-Ray move leaves the attacker with no meter at all. At the same time, since getting attacked builds meter the defending player might earn a breaker during the longer combos.
But, still, even if this game does allow for 80% damage, the meter management is always going to be in there as a choice. What is your full bar (and breaker opportunity) worth to you when you know its a big damage game? I really like what I’m seeing here.
Yeah that certainly made Cyrax more interesting though /jk. The one commentator of a gameplay video mentioned something of 70-80% combos even, but they weren’t shown. Who the hell knows if that is valid though, because a lot of people that demo the games see a flashy combo and all the games properties go out of their mind while it is happening. I’m not really against having combos that severely punish a two player team like that, but certainly no 100% and those combos would have to leave you with an empty meter.
There wasn’t any refill on the player out, and I think I remember them saying that there wasn’t going to be energy refill too, which is fine by me. Without a run button this game could take a long ass time to finish a match without these high damage combos too. I can’t wait to see more, I wonder when they are going to be releasing more footage. I really hope they try to update the shit out of this game and possibly revision if it is worth it.
I think this is a pretty interesting twitter post from Mr Ed Boon… An article over at Gameinformer: “Who We Want (And Don?t Want) In The New Mortal Kombat” lists Stryker and Sheeva, among others, as characters they don’t want to see again.
Ed Boon had this to say:
*"No Stryker? No Sheeva? And come on now…we haven’t palette swapped in about 15 years!! Still…a fun article. http://tinyurl.com/2dnnaol "
*

It could be nothing, or it could be a major hint that he’s either going to push for them to be in, or they’re already in.
Hahaha ok, here’s another Twitter post from Ed Boon hinting at Stryker some more
"While looking for something else in my basement I found this. Maybe someone is trying to tell us something…? http://twitpic.com/20rnru"
Not really a fan of Stryker myself.
If they can “change the past” and keep Smoke human…I’ll be fine with whatever they do.
I thought Stryker was hilarious. Rat a tat tat baton rush.
who is?
oh fuck. i hadn’t even thought about that, and it’s totally possible. RoboSmoke was pretty much just cyrax with a spear instead of a net, so it’d help keep the characters fresh and different from eachother.
But they’d probably change Human Smokes moves up if that were the case. I just can’t imagine HSmoke doing anything other than spears and teleport punches tho
If you ask me, Human smoke will be one of the “new” characters. By that, I mean that the MK Team will give him a complete movelist makeover, to make him new, and not a Scorpion clone. They sort of did give him a makeover in Deception, but it didn’t leave an impact on me. I can hardly remember his movelist in Deception.
On the note of that idea, I imagine the MK team will give a lot of classic characters complete makeovers in terms of not only movelists, but appearance due to the whole time shift storyline. I imagine a human Cyrax, a Kabal without his mask and breathing device, and possibly a cyborg Noob Saibot for starters. It’s probably very risky to mess with such classic property, but…it’s what I think is in store.
They can put unmasked Kabal and long-haired Jarek in game saying they are twin brothers, and no one will suspect anything
UMK3 Stryker was a riot. Bring him back with the 4 armed bitch with tits too. MK9 roster = UMK3 + Cage and 2 more
raiden + baraka
Some comment on the twitpic about stryker : “Yo, Ed, Make him a robocop-like dude”
rofl
Has this already been confirmed?
Cause if that’s the case UGHHHHH
