MK9 | News & Discussion (Updated as news happens!)

SC4 sucks.

Also, I tend to think their totally random inclusion of those guest characters was because they were trying to compensate for other shit. Nothing wrong with fanservice, but I can def get what people mean by they are placing the cart before the horse. Make sure the system is good before anything else.

Bo Rai Cho?

How is this not “fair”? Did NetherRealm promise, “we will not have any bonus characters that belong to different franchises in this game”? When Arc System Works added “gold” characters that are not tournament legal to Guilty Gear, was that also unfair?

Personally, I don’t own a PS3, I don’t plan on buying a PS3, so Kratos existing as a bonus character in the PS3 version has absolutely no impact on my enjoyment of the game. If I do go to a tournament for the game (which I plan on doing), then Kratos will not be allowed, so there is still no impact on my enjoyment of the game. If I did own a PS3 (or there is a 360 exclusive), it’s kind of a cute bonus that will add a little to a game that already looks darn good, so I’m not going to complain. More content sounds like a pretty cool thing, so I’m perplexed as to why it causes you such distress.

Honestly, it must take a load of energy to be so outraged over such a minor thing.

Maybe WB pushed to get Kratos in, to secure their investment a little bit? Unless you’re working on this game, or are somehow involved in its production, you just don’t know. Maybe Boon’s actually been fighting this, but again, we don’t know and he sure as shit won’t talk about it publicly if it happened.

At least they didn’t add Barney, or Ronald McDonald or something.

Marking so it shows up in ‘participated topics.’

They should have added the Burger King.

I just don’t understand why is Kratos exclusive to the PS3, though.

Also, you guys are looking too deep into this. I’m sure Kratos was added simply because it would be awesome. The marketing part is just a nice bonus.

Preferably the Sneak King version.

Bo Rai Cho.

No one is outraged over anything, it’s just stupid they did this. Basically, going “back to roots” implied straight up MK, no crossovers, nothing.

It makes you question exactly where they wanna go with this game. A lot of people already don’t have much faith in the dev team as it is, considering the past 8 years have been mediocre at best, save for MKDC. When you pull a stunt like this, it makes a lot of these guys question exactly what the MK devs’ motives truly are with this game.

None of you guys would actually understand where much of the MK crowd is coming from until you actually play the last 4 games.

Ok, so I’m not crazy about console exlusive characters, but I think this move is extremely awesome and finally a smart move for the fans by WB and the MK team. I have to give credit for this.

Bonus ‘skins’ are the way to go, because it doesn’t alter any gameplay, and the exclusive/bonus fatalities are an awesome idea and perfect addition.

I love almost everything in this, and I’ll be getting the Tournament Edition. Excited to see what the deal with the stick is too.

Shoryuken - Mortal Kombat Will Enter the Retail Arena With Standard and Special Editions Now Available for Pre-Order

Reptile classic skin is too freaking sick. That should satisfy those who thought MK9’s Reptile looked stupid. I’m also curious on what’s the deal with the joysticks. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just a Madcatz stick with MK art, like they did with BlazBlue. I think the older style would be too exotic/niche nowadays…

I’m tempted to cancel my GameStop pre-order and just put money down for Tourney Edition on Amazon.

That would be really lame.

I am hoping for a MK style stick, to see if that layout creates a night and day difference vs trying to play on a SF layout stick, hopefully allowing me to enjoy playing MK games.

I think when they meant back to their roots I think they meant in gameplay and in story. Kratos is just a marketing plan. Some guys will be like “Oh shit Kratos is in this? I’ll buy it.” Then that guy will find out (hopefully) that the game is good, tells his friends about it, and they will buy it too. I wouldn’t get to worked up about a character that wont be used in tourney anyways. Definatly digging the Reptile custom but I’ll pre-order at gamestop(even though i loathe the place). Scorpion and Kung Lao baby…

I asked Markman at SB about it and he said they’re not making any MK products.

I won’t be shocked if he was just not allowed to talk about it yet, but he seemed pretty serious about it.

Fixed.

Seriously?

I am pre-ordering the SE & TE for each console so i’ll split it up between the pro-orders. MK is serious fucking business, son. :coffee:

You better pre-order from me! :stuck_out_tongue:

lol, I want to man, but I really want Reptile. I’m not sure what I’ll do yet.

Still waiting for that version where they have Bo Rai Cho as unlockable, hidden character.

The days of knocking people to the floor and throwing like a fool will begin anew - hold on for yet another period of MK where people are too afraid to go online for fear of getting destroyed by a OP character.

My intuition was way off. UMK3 styled stick FTW
