MK9 | News & Discussion (Updated as news happens!)

nikka’s u on dat crazy.

So, I don’t understand how throw teching works. I’ve teched throws with all sorts of crazy crap, from 1+2 to down+2 to back+4 to back+1. Yesterday my friend and I went to training mode with dummy on human, turned on button displays, and just screwed around for a while, and when we got throw techs, we’d look to see what the last input was, and we got those buttons. Why? How does this system work?

Just press FP or BP (1 or 2) when getting thrown and you’ll tech it. You just can’t be holding block. It’s worked for me.

Basically, when someone does a forward throw you have to hit 2, or 4, and if they do a backward throw you have to press 1 or 3. Combinations of 1+3 will not work because they become Throw, which doesn’t tech throws. Fun fact, it seems that by default, if you don’t hold a direction when you throw your opponent, you will do a backward throw (no matter how close or far you are from the corner). Just tested all of this.

There seems to be a lot of conflicting ideas about teching throws.

In the demo, your tech was different depending on whether it was a front or back throw, essentially making techs a 50/50.

However a lot of people are saying that’s been removed and now you just need to hit one attack button to tech.

Someone should really test and confirm. I think the only thing at this point I’m sold on is that you can’t be holding block when teching.

Well, as I stated, I just tested that, there are 2 buttons (BUT YOU ONLY NEED TO PRESS 1 OF THEM) for teching forward throws, and 2 buttons for teching backward throws (again only 1 button needs to be pressed for this). Also about the blocking, you are correct, if you are blocking and you get thrown, you CAN tech but only as long as you let go of the block button first. If you are holding block and hit the correct tech button the tech will not happen and further attempts to tech during the tech window will be ignored, probably because they only accept 1 input during the tech window, as to prevent mashing out. I just tested this as well mini-pianoing 1 and 2 a whole bunch of times and about 50% of the time the throw is not teched.

Wasn’t the original point of achievements to … I dunno, give some recognition to someone completing some special challenge? Seems fine.

Hey does anybody remember the days when you had to get like 500 wins in a row to unlock little secrets in games? Those were the days.

I desperately hate the current-generation trend of video games hand-holding, I’m glad for Mortal Kombat to have some actual difficulty, and some real challenge.

anybody who has the guide tell me who kratos’ worst match-up is?

Just read on Tokido’s blog that he got MK. Evo just got a bit more interesting.

OCHO HATCHETAS

jajjajajajajaja

What does this mean?! I’ve seen people say this when it comes to MK, mostly Nightwolf. Is this some sort of injoke?

Related to Nightwolf, supposed to mean that if you can’t do 8 hatchets in a combo in UMK3 you suck at the game. As far as I know it’s impossible, but I was never able to get UMK3 (could never find it no matter where I looked in stores back then and arcades were already dying where I lived) so I could be wrong there.

Also, the meaning above is what I heard from a post on TYM so I’m pretty sure that’s the meaning.
INB4 Someone taunts me for being wrong

Rules.

LMAO, took me a second to understand that, but damn, good one.

This weeks “Sunday with Sebiel” was really interesting to me. I’m pretty much in agreement with everything he says about the meter system and committing to a combo in MK9 and hit-confirms being hella played out :P.

Was curious and looked up some stuff and through classicmk found this:

7 hatchets with 1 shoulder at the end. It’s mentioned that it could indeed be upgraded to 8 hatchets.

Gonna have to put that sebiel video on the backlog as I gotta sleep (dat insomnia).

Needed a requote on this page.
Yes! Murderface confirmed for AE/BB/T6/Marvel3/MK?

Awesome stuff.

i wasn’t sure where to ask this…

what are the buttons for the notation ppl have been using? like 1, 2, 3, 4?
i just want to make sure that i understand everything correctly. thanks.
