To select an alternate color for your character, go to the character select screen, then select your character by pressing Start, then press Start again on either costume 1 or 2 to get the corresponding alternative color.
as that comment reads “MK= a mans game” lol
Its not so much wanting it to play like SF, but like old school MK titles. UMK did see a good use of normals and I think that was in part to how the hit boxes worked in that game…or all 2D games in general. As for the run, well running is apart of MKs heritage just like the block button. Its what seperated the 2 titles and if anything the dashing makes it more of a SF title. The same goes with the rapid jabs, thats been a consistent gameplay feature with MK doing back as far as MK1…so I dont see why it couldnt be included in a game thats suppose to go back to its roots.
If MK9 had a running, rapid fire jabs and 2D hit boxes it would isntantly go from becoming a good game to a amazing game.
I would down for running as long as it doesn’t become it’s own button again.
nah man, run jab pressure was a shitty mechanic that actually made certain matches look really boring with one dude blocking and the other running into his block with his fist. that doesnt sound like my idea of fun. all im saying is MK9 is EXACTLY what and i everybody wanted out of a true tournament MK. old characters and and stages with fun and interesting modern mechanics and thats exactly what we got and i don want to see stuff added that dont feel balanced or needed (like run). maybe we’ll get the run button back someday but i doubt it since theyve never did anything with it in years.
char forums, awesome.

Game set and match:)
i know, ive seen it (repeatedly actually). and outside of ermac and smoke shenanigans run jab pressure is still stupid compared to whats on offer in MK9.
Hey look, character sub-forums. Good shit SRK! Hopefully we can get some good info flowing like the Marvel forums.
Glad to see people like Seb and Damdai taking an interest in the game and sharing the stuff they’ve found. Really appreciated Seb’s Sektor vid, dem missile traps.
so who has the strongest non situational bnb as of now?
pretty sure its smoke with 44% meterless
No, it would not, it’d be a shitty game then. UMK3 was an accident, and any to all MK’s after that weren’t really deep enough nor fun enough for competitive play. This new MK is perfectly fine for all of that, I don’t give a shit that the old ass mechanics haven’t returned, they went back to their “roots” as far as everything else is concerned and I’m just fine about that.
Best BnB’s? Could be Smoke, I haven’t seen enough match videos and what actually works to make a call though. Nightwolf has some easy 35-38% combos though.
i dont really want to see a run button or rapid fire jab pressure either.
those match vids are archaic by todays standards. it worked for that game. but that was like back in 95’
Yeah, let MK9 be its own game. The runjab would really only please those who enjoyed the older MKs and no one else. That’s not to say I don’t like UMK3, but that’s how it is.
Reptile gets 45% off 321 anywhere on the screen. I think that’s the highest, right now.
lol at people wanting mk9 to be umk3 or ssf4. lol at mvc2 players wanting mvc3 to be mvc2. fucking scrubs. go play umk3, ssf4, or mvc2 and stfu.
no u
Purely IMO.
I bought MK9 and I have had a ton of fun playing it so far with my buddies. Great for laughs, lots fun combos, and lots and lots of blood. This game has so much fan service, it would be hard not to find this game fun if you played the classic MK games.
But as far this game being good for high level competitive play for events like evo or any other big tournie? Just no… This fighter lacks so much depth and for its one style of play, it lacks too a lot of versatility.
Unless your character has a counter attack, there are NO defensive play style options. Just about every character has a projectile, but there is no zoning because recovery on those moves take forever so you can’t punish jump ins on time. And even if you could, you can’t really anti-air in this game.
The block button also prevents this game from being a great fighter because it takes away mix up options. You can teleport behind your op, but if they hold block, then it takes away front - back mix up pressure for any type of cross up game. So for a aggressive game that focuses on “rush down”, your only options for attacking are overheads, low attacks, and throw… errr,
And someone already said it, but you basically cannot hit confirm in this game unless you hit them with a random stagger attack - like freezes or scorpions hook for example. You have to commit to every attack which in a lot of cases leaves your wide open to get punished. This does open the door for baits and mind games, but still not enough to make this game a good competitive fighter.
That being said, I still stink MK9 is an extremely fun game. Right now, this is the only game I would want to play when my boys are over. MvC and SSF4 are great too, but since I’m the only one that plays competitive lively, MK9 works best and its also fun to rip their heads off at the end. But since this game is so one dimensional - and that one dimension isn’t very big - I would never take this game seriously. Great novelty game for some shits and giggles though with your boys and some beer.
Netcode =
Not sure if this is a troll post, but you sir are a little misinformed.
One-dimensional? No defensive playstyles? Unable to punish jump-ins etc? Uhh…yeah…no.
youve got some decent points, but a lot of your argument boils down to it not being like streetfighter.
they are different games, so how can you fault one for not being like the other?
for example your block button argument. you say it takes away from a left right mix up. thats fine, but it also makes sure that you actually commit to defending. there are no cheap ways out, like crouch teching or mashing dp/jab/backdash/whatever. you hold block and defend, or you dont hold block and you get hit
also, you cant simply define zoning as punishing a jump in after shooting a fireball. zoning is space control. and just by having fireballs on the screen is space being controlled. if you have a life lead, you can shoot as many projectiles as you want, and your opponent will have to deal with them, the exact same way you have to deal with them in sf, because if they return fire, you both lose life
lastly, your argument about hit confirms. the games handle options for damage in two different ways. it dosent make one wrong, or one right.
sf=defensive safe gameplay
mk=agressive gameplay
they each have their own place, but you cant say that one isnt good or deep simply because it isnt like the other
agreed
The only thing I don´t like about the game right now (other than the unplayable online) is the crazy buffering, in some combos I´m getting specials I didn´t even push the button for because I did hit that normal in the combo.
