Alright, I don’t have the best combos with him, but they’re better than nothing.
lui kang is pretty awsome imo. lots of safe 50/50 juggle strings. all leading to around 40%.
i dont think he has invincible attack on wake up tho. he has the parry, but it loses to lows.
i think his meter is best saved for breakers because of that. and his most damaging xray combo so far only does like 10% more than his regular output.
also his ex moves dont really add much. slightly more damage on the attacks, and the parry becomes a launcher, wich he already has plenty of
So how is the netcode? I don’t really care about King of the Hill, I’m just talking about standard 1 v 1 matches.
Anyone have any tips for beating Shao Kahn in story mode with Liu Kang?
Yea I do. I think she’ll be competitive but I dunno. She doesn’t seem to have many damaging combos compared to what’s been found with other characters. Her reach on f+4 is fucking awesome. I can’t tell if she’s better at zoning (and keeping them at f+4 range) or if she needs to be really up close. Her EX specials seem kinda worthless right now. I’m just saving meter for her X-Ray which is awesome. It’s a full screen unblockable but the opponent can jump to avoid it. However it’s still an awesome punisher especially for projectiles.
I’m trying to figure out if her b,f+3 grab gives frame advantage on block. It seems like it does but I really need to sit down with another person to test for sure. If it does then I think she’ll have a decent mixup game in her block strings. The opponent can duck b,f+3 but that opens up her crouch grab mixup instead.
Her b+2, 1+2 string is very nice. The b+2 has huge range for a low attack. You can cancel the recovery of the 1+2 into any of her specials. The best combos outta this string are:
b+2, 1+2 xx b,f+3 is 31% but really inconsistent for me. The b,f+3 whiffs alot.
b+2, 1+2 xx d,f+2 is 26% and much more consistent.
Going back to her crouch grab–the best combo I’ve done so far is:
d,b+3, dash, 2,1 xx b,f+3 which is 32%
So right now her max combo damage is averaging a little above 30%. I’m sure people will find better stuff over time. My main focus now is trying to find what stuff of hers is safe or not, and what gives her +frames on block. It really sucks that practice mode is so shitty. The record & playback is a joke.
Screw the haters, I want to main Sheeva but her normals seem so bad. I’ll look into her down the road, though.
Also, any thoughts on Quan Chi? He seems fairly interesting, though he seems to do pretty low damage. I tried him in practice mode, and comboing with him seems to be a pain in the ass.
ugh, I forgot, I also have to have a second main for 2v2’s…brilliant…

spam full screen fireballs. duck the spear, jump the hammer toss, flying kick if he taunts.

Kitana has to be top tier in this game. Ridiculous runaway, keepaway, and normals.
Yeah I have no idea why Super Shao Khan and Goro like to taunt so damn much, out of the big three Kintaro is the most threatening to fight. He doesn’t taunt, for a big guy he has insane walk speed, and his fireball rapes all others, also that teleport Stomp is like Sheeva’s but better in every possible way.
I still say the hardest part of story mode was the Liu vs. Scorpion/Quan-Chi fight. Oh holy crap do those two have some annoying tag properties.
I hope 2v2 isn’t the standard, not much of a fan of MvC lite mode in this. I just don’t feel up to learning two fully complete yet different characters right now, or rather, find the time to do so.
Ehh, yeah. I thought Tag Team would be more… dependant on team mechchanics. I dunno, it seems more limited then I thought. I mean, there are pre-determined Tag combos, and raw tagging itself isn’t as fast as I thought.
I tried to rock Stryker/Nightwolf, doing Hachet>Tag>Baton Roll, you can’t tag nearly as fast to do even that. I guess i’d need a bigger stun move like Cyrax’s Net or Kabal’s Spin to make it work…
everyone needs to familiarze themselves with individual characters before tag is gonna start working.

Sadly i couldn’t fully examine Sheeva but theirs a few things I notice. Sheeva combo ability may be low but she can still get 15%-29% percent with just one move or two. Other have to rely on attack strings into launchers and juggle follow ups which can stack up opponents meter. In other words her little combo means little meter for opponents. Also I think since her commands go to grapple animations, she may have unbreakcable combos. Her ex may have some uses.

you think so? kintaro is faster cos he’s smaller than goro. the thing about goro is he has really good super armour. my problem with kintaro was just the super stomp. its not hard to time it but the window to escape is small

I think they should allow 1 vs 2 in 3 player mode with the option to use a boss (goro/shao khan/kintaro)
The game actually gives you specials that will combo instead of the one you actually did sometimes. As an example, while doing a combo with Nightwolf and trying to see if his lightning special could be used to end it, the game gave me his bow+ arrow special instead.
Even though bow and arrow is on FP, and lightning is on FK- during certain combo strings down, back + FK will give you the bow special. It’s very strange.
I also really don’t like the whole “mash out the combo really quickly and then watch it play” thing. How am I supposed to confirm into unsafe specials if I have to input them before I can even see if it’s blocked or not? WTF. The hits also lose any sense of impact or timing if my button presses don’t correspond to what I’m actually seeing.

theres exceptions to it. if you do a longer string before the special, it gives you more time to hit confirm.
like with kung lao, you can do fp,fp,bpxxxspin. just mash in the fp,fp, let that shit play out, and only hit bpxxxspin on hit
