Since you were on that podcast, can you give a quick summary of you guys’ thoughts on MK9? No offense, but that’s the only reason I’m listening. But it’s 2 hours long and I’m trying not to skip around lest I miss anything.
Edit: NVM, got to it.
And NO, MK should NOT go back to digitized actors.
Really shocked about the digitized graphics… I think it’s looking amazing.
I don’t like the 3D games either, but that’s just because I don’t like 3D… however, Deception was a nice package with tons of content.
Something about losing ‘faith’ because of Armaggedeon… that game sucked, but losing ‘faith’ because of that game makes no sense.
Online mode will be improved… and again I think most online modes in any fighter is rather bad… KoF, SF4 come to mind
Really though, what makes certain games bad like DCU and Arma were the deadlines on which they had to release the products… WB is giving them the time and money they need to get this right.
Why turn the super meter off for tourny purposes? Not sure i understand.
Not sure my opinion on having lp,hp,lk,hk,run, block back or not… i think so?
I really agree with reaching out to other pro’s and fans alike though… they really need to step it up. No show at Evo, ComicCon was a big miss, imo. Even a little demo will get the ball rolling. Need to do a better job at hyping this up.
1.) Deception WAS the most “complete” of the 3D games, but was still shit gameplay wise.
2.) Can you really blame a loss of faith after Armageddon? At that point, people who actually cared about gameplay would realize that:
A.) Ed Boon and Co. are making enough money that they don’t have to care about gameplay.
B.) The primary customer base doesn’t care about gameplay.
This meant, most likely, that gameplay wasn’t going to get fixed. It seems very logical for one to give up hope.
Then MKvDC came out. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but seemed like a step in the right direction. And now, MK9 is looking like… another step. I won’t get hype, because despite awesome presentation, I still see things that might be problems.
MK9 does look great, but the game was just different using real humans as the sprites. That was what made MK, MK.
what makes a good great is a GOOD GAME. the package i buy can have all the cool extras in the world but…
I lost faith after Deception. MKA killed all hope. Thats just the way is was for us. That game was a flaming turd and we thought MK would never ever be MK again. MKvDC didnt help that thought at all btw.
Couldnt agree more. Midway in their crisis, demanded things of Midway that killed the quality of the product. period.
If the Super meter idea is broken or breaks the game, we hope it can be a feature that can be turned off, just like the agressor mode in MKT.
MK’s layout should have always been the same, as was SF’s. changing it was a complete fail.
no one else but Capcom or Namco shows off stuff @ Evo. But i agree, should have been to SDCC 2010 But no demo. Dont need it, just make the final product as good as possible
Why the fuck not? MK has been DECENTLY ALRIGHT (at BEST and that was MK4 aka the best non-MK MK game) since they left that idea behind. with todays tech…i’d love to see it.
1.) The move from digitization had little to do with why the later MKs had crappy gameplay. Boon and Co. just weren’t bringing it gameplay wise. That’s it.
2.) MK’s selling point is gore. I know gameplay > gore, but the semi-realistic character models they’re using now have yielded better gore than any digitized MK IMO. The few fatalities I saw at E3 beat out most (if not ALL) of the fatalities (and gore in general) I’ve seen from the previous MKs with their presentation, which probably wouldn’t have been possible with digitized actors. Also, though I feel they would work MUCH better as brutalities, the X-Ray moves are cool and probably would have been only an idea with actors.
Now, I could be wrong. Maybe I’m overestimating the work involved with digital actors. Maybe there WAS something about digitization that affected the gameplay. Also, I don’t know much about cameras and what can be captured these days. It’s just that I do like the look of MK9 despite my reservations about it. So that’s the mental frame when thinking of this: could they make what we’re seeing now with digitized actors? I’m thinking there would be a lot more work involved in bringing us the same thing.
It originally linked to a page that implied a new PS3 game consisting of HD versions of MK1-3. Like one of those preorder pages.
I would love something like that but in order to do it right they’d have to still possess the original photo shoot assets to scan in at HD resolution. It’s not like Street Fighter where they can redraw the sprites. I’m not sure they would still have all that stuff from back then.
But i can confirm this is a REAL product but when it will be released and the exact content, I cannot comment at this time. You will hear about it sometime soon, but I do not know when. It wont just be PS3 exclusive, and it will be the 2d games. Thats all i can share.
