MK9 Controls: Pad vs Sticks

Hm~ I might have to go and get a PDP pad to give it a try. I’ve also tried my PS2 SF15th edition pad, which is alot like the sf fightpad (i had one but i made it into a stick, lol), with the exception that my 360 converter inverts A&B so the menus are a bit of a hassle. In anycase it works out pretty well though.

On the stick i did finally come up with a layout for the TE that’s pretty comfortable to play on, but would only work if you’re used to KOF/classic SNK ABCD layout:

FP FK BP BK
BLK Stance

This way so it’s similar to the SNK LP LK HP HK setup, now the A button is easy to use for block, FP+FK is throw, BP+BK is tag, Blk+Stance is Xray.

Can anyone confirm if they’re getting this strange TE stick issue? I have the command inputs turned on in training mode, but my character won’t let me do a neutral jump, even though the up direction is displayed on-screen. It will let me do a forward and back jump, but never vertical.

My xbox 360 TE stick is dual modded with a cthulu + imp.

Playing on the DS3 joystick feels unresponsive and inaccurate in comparison to the D-pad. I opted for D-pad, but yeah, it hurts the thumb when you have to pull off combos with tight timing in quick succession.

Where’d you get the SNES-PSX converter? If I could find one for myself, I could link it up with the PS2-360 adapter I’m getting.

PDP should have made a MK pad. I would be all over that. My pad execution for is GDLK. WHY ONLY STICK PDP?!!?!?!

Funny thing is MK is the only fighting game that I have to play pad on or I’ll suck.

(lp)(hp)(lk)(hk)
(Bl)(Tag)(Throw)(stance)

This is on TE

Defo best setup, thumb always on the block button, fingers on every attack button

Don’t remember the last time I used 8 buttons in a fighter. Plus I’m screwed if I use my 6-button stick.

I think this is good though:

@Skudd. Not sure which converter your getting for 360 but allow me to tell you that I try snes>PSX>to xbox 360 with sucess. The combinations.
Snes>PSX
Keio converter. (its 27UK which in US currecny around 50 I think, the seller and maker is a fellow srk member, once you order he has to make it wich takes a while. so prepare for a good wait)
you can order it here.
Kei? Console Converters

PSX/PS2>Xbox 360
Original blaze pro (black version) Sadly this one does need and orginal Xbox 360 wired controller. (So I roughly spend around 60 for this. 15 for the converter and 45 for the controller) But its worth it to be able to use snes pad witch is godlike compare to the saturn.

has anyone try the MK trilogy lay out that was made on the n64? maybe it suites the 6 button front layout just like it did for the N64
LP BLK RP
LK tag RK

(fp)(bp)(block)(stance)
(fk)(bk)(throw)(tag)

I use my thumb for both kicks.

I would say a close second is (fp)(bp)(fk)(bk) like FROG says above, but personally I don’t have the dexterity in my pinky to map buttons I need for combos to it.

Awesome. Thanks for the info.

as an oldschool player we like to line up our buttons like this
FP BLK FK
BP BK

except when you do it this way it doesn’t feel the same as before because BP does the uppercut instead of FP (where it was before)

if you switch the 2 punches throwing/teching throws becomes a pain, so have to get used to it i guess.

I use a mad catz TE and i have…
FP BP Block
FK BK Stance

it works fine for the single mode, havent tried it in tag mode but its still rather awkward :/.

I haven’t been able to get a stick setup that feels comfortable to me yet on my SF4 TE. I wish they’d let you either map block to multiple buttons or allow you to map a button to have no input.

I don’t play tag mode so I don’t need that button at all. Throw and stance change buttons are also unnecessary since there are alternate commands for throwing and x-ray.

I’m using SFIV MadCatz TE on Ps3 with default configuration… Everything works great, except blocking on the 3rd button (bottom row) feels weird as hell… I’m going to try some of the setups here and see how it goes.

That N64 Trilogy layout works beautifully on my PS3 Fightpad. Thank you so much for that layout.

Mc te for 360. Normal layout feel just fine for me.

Actually it still is a 5-button game. I thought it was 6 too but Flip Stance is both kicks also.

Throw= FP+FK
Tag= BP+BK
Stance= FK+BK

If playing on a pad, you could use the claw method and have your LT button as block.

My TE setup is:

[1][2][BLK]
[3][4][FLIP]

This makes throw, tag, and x-ray easier to perform for me.

mine goes like this on the TE

BP FK BL ST
FP BK TG TW
i throw by pressing FP+FK wich is VERY common command (Wolverines drill claw, kings snakegrab in T6)

Dualshock3 + D-Pad is a dream.

I play claw on my ps3 … just switch the triggers…

and on a stick i would most likely play

ST FP BP TW
BL FK BK TG
