I liked mk1 and mk2. umk3 may be better but I dislike it for some reasons
All the MK games suck except UMK3. This isn’t even an IMO thing, it’s a fact.
Examples. I am well versed in the entire Capcom fighting games franchise on top of my status in UMK3, so don’t just say something so bold like that.
imo the games are only as good as its popularity, maybe kids in the future will be bothered and more interested to see what armaggedon has to offer.
umk and mk2 comparison IS very akin to the 3s ST comparison
mk2s limitations make high competitive play easily attainable making it look more strategic than the deeper but much more distracting UMK mechanics.
it seems no matter how fanatical about games you are you can still be extremely ignorant these days
Run and combos changes the way the game is played.
And you forgot damage protection and lowered overall damage per hit. MK2, everything did huge damage and damage scaling didn’t exist.
Not to mention they fixed simple things like collision detection. As far as I know there’s no way to make a single aaHP do 35% damage in UMK3.
What does that mean exactly?
It seems that you dislike fast paced fighting games…let me guess…You hate the GG or Vs sagas?
So DefJam best fighting game ever? lol no!
Well it can be played to a certain degree but the tiers arent as loose as in UMK where basically all characters have a chance of winning… its not as bad as ppl say but its definately better than any MK ecept umk.
I would say:
UMK3
MK4
MK1
MK2
This is counting only arcade release… And MY PERSONAL OPINION…
For some casual MK4 action go to my youtube profile as mkkhanzohasashi.
Yes, and I play tourney games, the deeper games, the games that last more than a weekend.
Mortal Kombat Armageddon is popular with the mainstream, and it has no tourneys at all. Same for Pokemon whatevers…
MvC2 has a huge tournament scene because it is one (or the) deepest fighting games ever. Nobody that knows how to play it in high level will say otherwise. That’s why so many people continue to play it everyday for years and years, something that would never happen to a more shallow game like any MK asides from UMK3. That’s the difference. Tourney games are deep. Non-tourneys games may be fun, pretty or whatever, but they die in a year.
About SSF2T, I really can’t see what all the fuss is about. The game stopped evolving many years ago, so much that players can come after 10 years or so of retirement without learning anythin new and win world tourneys or international challenges. 3rd Strike and MvC2 are still evolving every week because they simply outnumber SSF2T’s options by a huge margin.
People may say SSF2T is better because of the mind games, pacing or whatever, but it is a much much simpler game than 3rd Strike or MvC2. It basically has no features compared to the newer games. You may like it better, but don’t say it has more thing to learn, because its a lie.
Well, that means that the game is awesome.
“UMK3
MK4
MK1
MK2”
I’d say
UMK3
MK4
MK2
MK1
“You may like it better, but don’t say it has more thing to learn, because its a lie.”
That’s what I’ve told the loners on gaming sites who blindly support MKII because of the hype and have no education about gameplay. For the most part, they never learned but I have changed a few minds in terms of the recognition of actual gameplay content superiority.
it means the only thing you can do in mk2 is play in a way that makes it look strategic, you have to be fucking dumb to look bad in that game
the hell?
for one i love GG, i love combo’s, too much, and speed in general (mental/physical) is something i love so…
when i said about the most popular being the best (once again here your an idiot) is whichever game has the most players (most popular) gets the most mechanics love, discussion on what you can do in the game becomes known and enjoyed (if no one cared about getting good at marvel would you bother playing it? would you be as good as you are right now? would you know how good the game could get the better you get at it?) im not speaking here to talk on some bullshit 10 year old discussion about what games are better so read the things i say atleast three times before replying
tis fucking rediculous
Your comment was very open so please specify that you are talking about COMPETITIVE fighting games. We here were talking about UMK3 vs MK2 (wich really doesnt have a comparison) if I recall. Comparing MK to SF is stupid. Only MK competitive game is UMK3 and MK4 can be played for fun…but MK2?
LOL I forgot that with my subscription to SRK coms a free flame! LOL I never tried to insult you Ki shima.
Shock: I just put mk1 above 2 cause I like it more. IMO.
All this thread has done is remind me how much I hate MK2 Mileena… arrrgggghhh
It’s reminded me of how much I hate UMK3 Noob, Sektor, and rain.
lol noob and rain arent playable in umk3… the only version you can pick noob is on the wavenet version and he isnt even like noob on trilogy… and sektor isnt even good… hes one of the bottom 5 in the game
They are on the snes version.
I was playin’ UMK3 for on zbattle. This kid was ridiculous. The second I went in the air, my ass was juggled for like the entire round. Then he’d pick the 2-on-2 battle, and after he beat my first character, my second character would jump in. However, before my character touched the ground, he was already being juggled.
well then… my advice is stop playing that shitty version… only version of umk3 you should be playing is on the arcade… the rest dont matter
To be honest, I’d rather play trilogy on PSX (with chain combos turned off) or the Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy hack for genesis emualtors. They’re senseless fun.
I highly suggest you check out that genesis rom hack. The chain combo system is more flexible, and MKII reptile is actually good. The game is completely broken though, but like I said, it’s senseless fun.
I think the reason I don’t care for UMK3 much is that I’m so used to MKII. Also, I think the combo system in Killer Instinct is far better so I ended up playing that more. Oh, also keep in mind that I usually play fighting games by myself, and the AI in UMK3 isn’t exactly the funnest thing to play against.
No one here ever talked about SNES UMK3 though, I don’t understand why you even brought it up. WETA said he didn’t like MKII because of Mileena, and then you said you didn’t like UMK3 because of Noob, Rain and frigging SEKTOR, not, oh I dunno Kabal?
Playing Trilogy with combos turned off is just your way of making it one step closer to MKII. You don’t like combos why? The add to the variety between characters that is mostly seen through special moves, and the minor variations in collision detection that actually do play a huge partin gameplay.
The Genesis UMK3 hack is fun, for about an hour. Reptile is broke as hell in it because the guy who made it doesn’t fully know how to balance characters. If he wanted to, he could hack it through compensation, to play almost exactly like UMK3 Arcade, and then modify things from there and make a truly balanced, fantastic version of the game.
Can you please explain why the combo system in KI is better?
I should have not even bothered responding because of:
“I think the reason I don’t care for UMK3 much is that I’m so used to MKII”
and
“I usually play fighting games by myself”
Why are you getting so confrontational about this? It’s my opinion.
Anyway, I like the KI combo system better because it’s more flexible. There are combo starters, linkers, and enders. So you choose what moves to link together unlike UMK3 where the combo is predetermined, and all you do is press the appropriate button sequence. However, I will say that UMK3’s combos are more fun to watch
