I sware I could have an $100 mm and not be nearly as nervous as a first round in tournament. Im wayy too afraid of random shit like when people arent adapting or learning and they just keep goin in. so if any of you guys lose to me, just go random. shit works
People that play random scare the shit out of me. I was playing some Cody player in casuals and he was doing the most random shit I’ve ever seen.
**Edit: Memo’s latest Facebook status “I wish I could be on Bangbus just one time…” I’m glad to see the man has dreams.
**
you guys shoulda seen my face when they called my first match vs bigmarcus
maybe you gotta just random back and push back the momentum? If they’re just gonna let it rip they’ll get counterhit/stuffed pretty easy by sagat I would expect. I know what you mean though. People who don’t let up the pressure and play the match “the way its supposed to be played” screw with your head.
Guess in that case it’s better to focus on moment to moment tactics than overall strategy because you can’t guess much except what’s coming at you or what’s being set up in the next few moments.
I’m still tired from CH3.
Just announced the GGA Windy City Showdown schedule for the next month here: http://forums.shoryuken.com/t/chicago-2016-2017-thread-welcome-new-players-check-out-the-facebook-group-page-as-its-more-active/126531/3095
Hope to see you guys there soon.
It’s a shame you guys operate only on Wednesday. I’d love to make it down, but I work M-F and a two hour drive each way would kill me. Chicago is pretty much only a weekend thing for me.
There should be some weekend events coming up soon, not counting FxS. GGA holds their own tournaments, i.e. not organized by the people on SRK, on some weekends where all matches are played on their arcade cabinets. And there is something in the works for a one-day tournament on a mid-September weekend that will actually be in the city of Chicago.
What up all,
I’m an alright AE/scrubby MK player originally from Milwaukee who loves in/attending UW-Madison (second year here) who’s looking to get into the FGC in Madison. I know there was a thread about a similar situation in the general midwest forum, but posting here seemed a bit more appropriate.
So, I’m curious- are there ever meet-ups downtown, or is it generally only on the west/east side (like the first page says)? Either way, I’d love to get some casuals in with people in the area, online or off (just sent my info in for the archive).
Thanks!
Edit: clarification that I’m actually in Madison
yooo. The gatherings are located on the east side, not too far from the downtown area at all though probably 10 to 15 mins. We arent playing over there this tuesday though, next tuesday will be the next gathering. You should definitely come by. We always need more ae comp, and we have good mk players here that will level you up.
Also yeah im in the same boat with those GGA tourneys. Ill most likely be attending the weekend events.
cool, thanks man. Sorry, I should’ve been clearer that I spend like 70% of my time in Madison, but when I’m in Milwaukee I’d love to hit up some of the events to get to know the community.
I’m Hellsent - Joe and I organize/hold game nights at my place. I generally hold gatherings on the weekend when the schedule works for everyone, otherwise I play people solo when they want to come out
If you want to come over and play, I’m unemployed and here all day, I drive and can come pick you up. Always good to have new blood.
The Madison scene is mostly me, Devin (doesn’t post here) and Jaron (jswey). There was another guy, Tim, who was better than both of us at 3s, but he doesnt play often now. Jaron and I have played SFIII 3rd Strike since 07. We both dislike 4 and suck at it because we don’t play it much. I’ll play it, but I don’t like it. However, we play every other fighting game on the face of the earth well; Super Turbo, all the Alphas, KoF and all the SNK games, doujin games (Blazblue, Melty Blood etc), anything 2D and old school.
I’m not sure about the next actual “gathering”, I’m gonna aim for getting one together this weekend with Jaron and Devin, and possibly Tim. Main game played will be 3rd Strike but we’ll play others
PM me if you want to come out and play during the week.
I live on the east side off Cottage Grove Rd, east of Stoughton Rd
There seems to be a lot of people asking for competition in Madison lately, so here is a large list that is from my knowledge of the scene in Madison which will probably be copied and pasted from now on.
You have options downtown, east side, and west side in Madison. Here is a breakdown of Madison and what we play:
West Side:
Me (Dooku) - Games played: Blazblue, MvC3, some AH3, learning AE when I have time, and anything doujin/GG style.
My main game -should- be Blazblue, but I’m the only player basically in this state. I’m competent at this game, and could be great at it, but there is literally nobody to play against here. Yay. I’ll play anything doujin style, and prefer games with chain combos (GG/BB) over games with link combos (SF).
Keranata/Kerahime~<3 - Games played: MvC3, AH3, AE, some BB, learning Smash Melee, and anything else that he can find competition in.
Mundungu - Games played: Primarily Smash Melee, some MvC3, and had intentions to learn AE but I don’t know if he’s still doing that.
Gibby - Games played: Primarily Smash Melee, AE, and probably other stuff
MysticBill (non-school year) - Games played: Soul Calibur series, Tekken series, MvC3, a little AE, and maybe other stuff? Even during the school year he generally comes to the biweeklies at Happy Wok on the east side.
And a whole bunch of smash players and I don’t know their names.
Downtown:
Sanchaz (during school year) - Plays primarily Smash Melee, MvC3. Maybe some other stuff? If you are looking for players at UW, I’m sure he knows others as well.
**East Side **(refer to Hellsent’s post about the players on the east side, it’s much more informative):
Hellsent - Plays old school games, primarily 3rd Strike. Refer to his post about the other stuff he plays.
Jaron - As far as I know primarily a 3rd Strike player, but like Hellsent probably plays most old school games.
jimmypikachuchoi - Plays 3D games (Calibur & Tekken). He hosts biweeklies at the Happy Wok on the east side.
Gatherings:
West side:
-
Usually have a smash gathering on a regular basis. If you are a smash player, Mundungu knows more about the Madison smash scene than me, so you could contact him.
-
I’m generally free between 7-midnight during the weekdays, and usually have at least a day off during the weekend, so contact me if you want to get games in. I’m busy for the rest of this month generally during the week and weekends, but hopefully after labor day I’ll have more free time.
-
Keranata is typically free to play games whenever when it’s not during the school year, and whenever he’s not busy/out of town.
Downtown:
- Sanchaz will be holding tournaments on a regular basis once the school year starts. I believe it will be monthly, and will have a lot of smash players there. Also some people that play MvC3 and other fighters should show up, and probably most of the west side will show up at these.
East side:
-
Biweeklies at Happy Wok - Mostly a 3D fighting game gathering. If you play Calibur or Tekken, there’s a couple of good players here. A few people there seem to show interest in picking up MK, so you could check that out. Me and Keranata also show up to this when we can.
-
Hellsent seems to have a pretty flexible schedule, so if you play oldschool games he’s the one to contact about that.
“it’s different than marvel2” -noah
that’s why everyone else plays it
I play Blazblue, so does Jaron
I’ll play it with you anytime you want, it’s fun, and afaik a lot of people in Milwaukee play it (well, played it when it was new). I know for a fact Webster is good at it
Jaron will play literally anything as long as it’s a fighting game, even the 3d fighters I dont touch
Jaron lives on the west side but goes anywhere to play games.
I’m pretty sure that nobody plays BB in Milwaukee anymore. It doesn’t matter too much, since unfortunately my working hours prevent me from ever going out there. And the Tracks tournies generally coincide with times I’m out of town =/
I’ll let you know the next weekend I’m not busy and we’ll get some games in. Probably in a few weeks, I’m busy getting ready to move and will probably be out of town the other weekend.
It’s confirmed Ohio sucks and Toledo is a shithole.
Steven you should totally just come over really late some night. Say you get done with work at 8pm…come over then and stay here till like 1am, go home, sleep for 6 hours, go to work. Be a man xD
Sorry, but nah, there’s no way that’s happening. For me to go over to the East side it really has to be a weekend to work out right now with my work schedule. I just got done working tonight.
