You can be ignorant about the product’s “history” and still be very professional at your job.
So far Comcept have done nothing to prove to the people why she’s the right person for the roles she got and it’s not just nepotism. People are overreacting? Make them shut up by showing them “the truth”! But maybe “the truth” isn’t something they can be proud of!
You can get people who hate Megaman and have outside perspectives, who also have much better credentials at art design and/or videogame design or being community managers. With 4 Mill you can do better.
Totally, 100% fair, and yeah, there’s no doubt a better person for the job. I still don’t think her presence will blunder what still looks to be a great title, though.
I think the main problem is she basically knew someone to get the job and has none of the personal drive or passion for the franchise that it is based on. That coupled with how unbalanced she is or how she portrays herself to be immediately got under everyones skin. Say what you want about Capcom but at least they had/have good community managers and thats what everyone was expecting. Someone who was just as impassioned as they all are but still at the end of the day able to tell fans no when shit is dumb like Combo or Seth do/did. She is just unlikable anyway you skin it. Normally I would say hey whatever is in her personal life is no ones buisness, but when it bleeds over into your professional life in a way that you cannot conduct yourself professionally well then you gotta go.
I think people wouldn’t react as much if she was a Megaman fan, plus her being a feminist, even if she may not be on Anita Sarkeesian level, is gonna have an insta-negative reaction, because typically feminists in gaming aren’t really doing a cause, since they don’t play games and are just trying to shove their agenda into everything. But seriously, how do you hire someone who knows nothing of the Megaman community to be a community manager. WTF?
All I know about this game is I backed it just enough to get a copy via paypal, I didn’t wanna know jack about shit until the game was ready to be played by me personally. Now the community manager/designer is some feminazi? Shit. Who hires someone this shitty?
I’m wondering if this has to do with a lack of understanding of how valuable PR is in this day and age of social media. Maybe Comcept sees it as some menial position and the whole “forum thing” is not of great concern to them.
She claims to have a masters in character design or something from some Tokyo school. That’s nice. Now how does that make you equipped for a PR position?

Honestly, I highly doubt she’ll detract much from the quality of the game. Inafune is still the brains behind the operation, the gameplay will STILL be on point regardless
Me thinks people are making too big a deal of this and giving her too much attention (which is probably what this chick wants)
Pretty much this. The girls I know who play games, just chill and enjoy the shit. They don’t do shit like see Zero Suit Samus and say “oh she has a tight suit on. sexism”
Ignoring all the feminist bullshit which is stupid both ways, everyone who donated should feel concerned that the community manager not only never played a Mega Man game but lied about it, if she stuck to being honest about that fact it wouldn’t boil over as it has. When someone donates to a kickstarter it’s almost like they become a stock holder with some degree of say over the project. So anyone who berates donaters for voicing their concern over what they contributed their money to needs to drink a tall glass of shut the fuck up.
That being said, anyone who thinks she or anyone else will get in the way of Inafune delivering on what I can only imagine to be one of the highs of his life is on mollies.
Plenty of down to earth female gamers are outspoken about gender issues in games and remain “down to earth.” They shouldn’t be told to just sit and play if they see a problem.
And no, that’s not me saying Zero Suit Samus is a problem. Other M Samus though…
You don’t own shit. You willingly donated money for a benefit, and you have/will receive that benefit. That’s all you are entitled to. If you do not agree with a business decision, I guess you can withdraw your money and move on. But if you put it in, you are only giving the beneficiary the capital necessary to complete an objective.
Donating through Kickstarter is not exactly buying shares in a Fortune 500 company.
Meh, this is no big deal. At best she is a moderator for the forum, an office assistant at the very least. Do you think game devs have the time to check every fanboy message?
And that’s their right. But it’s troubling how far people are willing to go in an attempt to silence those who see a problem in the industry. And there is definitely a problem.
