but this thread is about the sf4 team so please direct HDR comments to wes and the thread he already started about qualifiers
SF4 5 on 5
Ari I’m interested in representing the Midwest Team. I’d like to have a shot at your sagat again.
There are lots of people interested.
and yet no one good at the game has posted in this thread :wgrin:
That tournament sounds good, I’ll try to make it to MWC if you’re gonna do that
I’ve been playin gief and ryu so ima try to get on that team with one of those two characters. Ive been playin ryu before the game came out on console with some east coast guys so I’ve had some good character experience. Im also gonna try to go to japan again this summer before evo and i’ll def be playin sf4 up ther.
We need to get some games in again if my online isnt laggy like last time.
Ive been playing Balrog as my main for the most part.
Id be interested…
but I think humbag def deserves a spot.
MWC hmm… we should be there.
I’ll be at MWC, it’s EVO that I’m not quite sure about at this time. Although when it gets closer I’ll know for sure. I play Rufus.
In the case of two people playing the same character, how do you plan on deciding? Mirror matches seem like the wrong way to go.
Wes’s thread in the tourney section covered it quite a bit, though it’s for HDR same can be applied here. It would probably be 4 tourneys, winner of first one gets spot and character then next tourney that char is removed and winner of that and repeat. Problem is that time will be a big factor.
I’d say hold 5 tournaments back to back @ MWC…
1st one that wins… gets the spot… of course! whoever his character is… that character is locked… next…
2nd tournament… pick anyone else other than the 1st winner and run another tourney…
and so on… until you have 5 winners!
This is the fairest way IMO… like akzidenz says… mirror matches is wrong way… it dont show they know the matchups…
and no one should be automatically assigned to the team yet… even captain… why? the game is too young and there are/might be others out there more qualified… like everyone else… play for the spot!
sure it’s time consuming… but this way people wont bitch about… “i didnt get my chance, blah blah blah”
im not even going to evo but i speak as unbiased as possible! Scrubs/Pros alike should have their fair shot at it
Yeah, and matchups aside, some mirrors are just too weird to be taken too seriously. Blanka mirrors are really random, Abel mirrors are weird, Balrog mirrors are boring as shit and so on.
After you fill the first two or three spots, you could have the other top finishers from those first tourneys fight them for the remaining spots. It might be a little quicker. But it could also be really convoluted and confusing.
I agree with that. But I’ve only lived in the midwest for a year now, I don’t know much about your scene yet, etc etc. It just seems fairer to do it that way.
me and humbag are champions…
of drinking
I don’t really have a problem with FloE being big man on the block. His Sagat is… Sagat-y. Depends on if player is going to Evo or not I suppose. His Sagat is pretty beef too.
this is probably what will happen
Yeah, I mean, like I said… I’m new to the midwest. I don’t want to step on any toes. I do know that FloE is a long-time member/supporter of the midwest scene. I’ve never played him before, I’m sure his Sagat is beastly. I’m sure that everyone who knows him and plays him can attest to that.
But especially with a new game like SFIV, especially with the top tier, it seems like there shouldn’t be guaranteed spots. Every scene has a decent Sagat, not to mention that there might be some lurker who mostly plays on Live/PSN that has an incredible Sagat. Three years from now, if there are certain players who’ve been holding it down for the midwest, kicking ass in tourneys across the country, then it makes sense to guarantee them a spot. But it just seems too soon to do that with SFIV.
FloE, if your Sagat is that nasty, you should be able to qualify regardless. Right? And don’t take that the wrong way, I don’t mean it as a challenge. I’m not trying to be a dick. I’m just trying to be very matter-of-fact about it. If we have all of the Top 5 determined by tournaments, then we know for a fact that we have the five best players representing the midwest.
That’s all there is to it.
???
Why are you wasting time with posting this? Floe was NAMED CAPTAIN of the team. Therefore he gets an automatic spot. What kind of facts do you need? He won the GameStop tournament for the whole region, and he’s won every tournament in Chicago so far. He was named Captain because as of right now, hands down, he IS the best player in the Midwest.
I know there are lots of “good players” out there, and the problem with that is a lot of people think they are good because they beat everyone online, meaning inconsistency with how many people really ARE good at the game.
Fact of the matter is, he’s done enough to warrant a spot, and obviously MORE than enough since he was named CAPTAIN of the region already. Ultimately he can decide who gets the other 4 spots, so I’m pretty sure him offering all four spots off to the best 4 players in tournaments is pretty fair if you ask me.
Floe CHOSE Sagat as his main character. Heck, he could have chosen Rufus in the tournament, but that’s who he is choosing. I think that if you really wanted to be fair, people can use any character they WANT to qualify with, but they just can’t use Sagat on the team. That is also more than fair.
I mean, there’s nothing really to discuss. You’re trying to tell the Captain he needs to play for his own spot and organize the thing at the same time? That’s asinine. If there is a lurker using Sagat, he can come to the tournament and qualify. If Floe feels that guy’s Sagat is better, then he can switch to another character. Problem solved.
I don’t think ari would be that much less strong if he switched to another character. IMO.
